Both are underachieving former first round picks. Kakko isn't that much better of a winger where Veleno's "alleged" center playing ability doesn't pull him close enough that it's a wash. And another contract year under $2.5M for Joe has a hint of value. Kakko is arbitration eligible this coming summer.
And to add... Veleno is the limit of the assets I'm willing to burn on Kaapo f'n Kakko...
Also, kaako just threw his coach and half the team under a bus because he got sat. Nyr might be pretty motivated to move him.
Kappo f’n kakko has an 18 goal and 40 point season under his belt and is on pace for another 40 point season while “underachieving.”
I’d love to be wrong on this but I don’t see the rangers pulling the trigger Veleno for Kakko straight up.

I mean... 40 point seasons. That's Copp/Compher... I don't see the need to toss anything of value for that.

I'd do that in a heartbeat and throw in a 4th or 5th if it got the job done. Dont think rangers would though.
Dont think he'll iever be a high end top 6 guy but I can see him on a solid 3rd line. something like Lombardi danielson kakko

That still puts him ahead of Veleno by quite a bit value wise. I don't want Kakko either, but he is still better than JV.
Laine would be a spacegoat here very quickly. If he isn't scoring he is floating a lot.
Not like tarasenko's doing much. It's not being cause hes scoring now but I would have taken a flyer on a still young enough player who had 40 goals prior with only 1 year left on his deal and receive a pick for doing so

Kakko is someone id like them to go after.. value is in the dumps because of how the Rangers saga is going, and we have some guys that need a change of scenery it seems... Veleno and another piece? Ras straight up? Doubt they want any of our defense but if they do, please take your pick!
Even if he doesn't reach his potential or improve much, there isn't a ton he needs to replace to be a positive addition.

Veleno is the warmest body of all the warm bodies and the plug-iest of all plugs. Veleno alone ain't gonna be enough. Berggren+Veleno package? Jonny Burger ain't getting his chance here and other prospects are knocking at the door.
