I would say he has no control over Sid and Geno. Karlsson, meh. I don't think Karlsson is as in love with living and playing in Pittsburgh as one might imagine. I would be if an opportunity came up to join a contender, he would do it without thinking twice. The conversation doesn't have to start with EK. Dubas can absolutely approach other GMs about him and then when a deal gets "worked out", you can ask. Obviously then he has full control but if it's a contender, I bet he says yes. Carolina, Dallas, Edmonton, Florida, even NY or NJ...I can't see him saying no.

Easy for us to say on the side lines.

It would be very easy for him to just wait out his contract until his final year and waive at that point.

Big difference between what he said in San Jose and what he said recently.

EK has also made it clear he is 100% fine playing in Pittsburgh, so I don't think he's just going to uproot his life for a third time especially with the proximity of PIT to OTT for any team.

And I'm fine in my current job. But if someone comes along with a new opportunity and doubles my salary, I'm going to be interested.

What if Ottawa wants to bring Karlsson home this summer, so to speak? People are making a whole lot of assumptions about individual player motivations based on comments by media savvy players. Is Karlsson going to say that he hates it here and can't wait to be moved? Of course not.

It's one thing to speculate about potential moves and the direction of the franchise, but stuff like this or suggesting that the Pens are going to keep Rakell because they used him to promote their games in Sweden eight months from now brings us all closer to unhinged fan territory.

Let people be fans of a team how they want to be fans.

This whole "you actually don't understand" / "you are overreacting" shtick is so Josh Yohe it isn't even funny.

The team f***ing sucks and is consistently making stupid decisions. Why should they get any benefit of the doubt?

I think there are teams that EK65 would waive to. I just think this idea that Dubas can just snap his fingers and get it done is the wrong take. EK has been clear that he has full say as I posted above. I'm sure he's open to playing for a contender, but I'm sure he's also more cautious than he was in San Jose given what has happened in PIT.

I think some people aren't fans of anything except whoever's in charge at the moment. But I'm going to go out and say that's the wrong way to be a fan, but I go there. I say the things you cowards can't. That's right, I said it. :laugh:

This is what I was thinking when I read that part of the article where Sullivan said he’s playing the lineup that gives us the best chance to win: “how’s that working for you, Mike?” lol
If a legit reporter had actually done that interview with Sullivan, he probably would have asked something along those lines

I think i would have hit him first with "and you've been able to have a voice with the gm and target players you feel can work in your system?"

When he says yes

Then hit him with the, and has that been working out?

Then mic drop, and look for work in another city cause the pens would kick me out

Fans can root however they want, but it's just like the Sullivan stuff -- we know he's a problem. He needs to go. We're all on board at this point, even me. But it doesn't need to invade every conversation. It's nice to talk about a prospect's skillset and how it might translate to the NHL level without every response being, "Yeah, but Sullivan will ruin him."

So with Rakell and Karlsson, I just wish we'd let things play out. Let's have something tangible to complain about rather than freaking out about something that may not even come to pass.

I don't mean to single any one poster out, but since I've been seeing this sentiment a lot, I finally have to ask: how, exactly, are we guaranteeing that the Pens win the lottery?

I mean, if we just need to call up Uncle Gary for one last favor before he retires, can't we still do that without needing to finish in the bottom 3? If we're rigging the lottery, we just need to finish in the bottom 11, after all!

If we're not rigging the lottery, I"m not sure how people seem to be just assuming that the Pens will be able to pick McKenna, regardless of how next season goes. Pens tanked in the 03/04 season, came in last, and still lost the Ovechkin lottery after all (they just got incredibly lucky that Malkin was their consolation prize that year).

I don't see how this team is stripped away enough to get McKenna.

If they had shipped out Rakell at UFA, I could see it. That gives you a summer move of Rust and EK65.

At this point you are asking that we move out nearly 20+ mil in salary to get them to the point where they are disaster like San Jose or Chicago. Just don't see it happening.

Geno was the better all around player and was a Center, he was my preference then and now.
