Salary Cap: '24-'25 Salary Thread: Crosbicles Volume MMXXVI: Sid is Still Goat

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Yes, and we arent rebuilding. This is a retool and will be until Sid retires.
Agreed, their goal is to be the Caps or Kings, bring in NHL ready prospects, or picks and flip for those young players who can contribute.

And I don't disagree, you have Sid still playing at a top 15 player level and signed to an 8.7M cap hit, with the cap going up. You owe it to him to give him atleast 1 more run.

I think it'd be hilarious if Dubas ended up doing:

To Toronto:
Luke Schenn, 50 retained (maybe dump Bemstrom to them)

To Pens:
Nick Robertson
Would love this, however Robertson has been excellent for them I would be surprised if they moved him now.

Dumo is big and a proven winner which gets GMs hot and bothered. Gryz is too fluffy for them to be that excited, but Luke Schenn could probably get us a 2nd because LONG PANTS HOCKEY.

Agreed. Beauvillier, Grzelcyk and to a lesser extent Acciari need to be gone if anything of positive value is offered. Based on the rumours out there it sounds like there is some interest in those guys so they need to be gone for me to be ok with this deadline.

I will plant this flag now so that I don't get accused of rationalization after the deadline: it's impossible to know if Dubas made the right decision holding on to Schenn and/or Rakell unless there are credible leaks saying what offers were on the table.

Like if Friedman say Toronto offered Minten/Cowan/Danford for Schenn and he's still here then I riot.

If Dreger says Blake offered Clarke and a 1st for Rakell and he's still here then I riot.

But if it's radio silence on what was offered I won't freak out just because guys with term are still here. Those guys can be moved in the offseason or next year's deadline when the Penguins have more retention spots to play with.
Agreed. If prices are leaked and mostly confirmed that hit what we need and Dubas said no I am upset.
Pretty certain the Jake situation went like this; Dubas and Jake's camp met the summer before he was dealt. Jake's camp wanted a huge contract and assurance the team was going to be competitive. Dubas didn't want to commit a colossal deal to a 30 year old with the team on a steep and steady decline. Two sides very far apart in the summer. Talks shelved, Jake's camp feels slighted. No talks during the season. It's public knowledge Jake's camp isn't negotiating in season, whether with Pens or a new team. Jake's dealt, the return is what you'd expect for someone of Jake's caliber but without any indication he's interested in re-signing. Still refuses to talk extension with Carolina. Carolina fizzles out in the playoffs. Talks ramp up and the sides aren't very close. Getting near July and Carolina throws a hail mary 8x8 deal, Jake declines. Carolina trades Jake to Tampa. Jake signs colossal deal, gets to live in a millionaire's life in Florida while playing alongside Kuch and/or Point. End.

There were a bunch of reports that the two sides weren't close, negotiations were at a standstill and not progressing, and Jake's agent publicly saying "this could get very ugly."

Dude left because he wanted to. If he really wanted to be a Penguin, he'd still be here, but there was no reason to take a steep pay cut and wallow in this slopshit organization for the rest of Sid's career before being dealt down the road. He took his colossal deal, ended up with some stellar linemates and on a team gunning for Cups before their window closes.

Worked out for both sides, imo. Anyway, f*** Jake Guentzel. He's a dweeb.
No hate for Jake. He got his bread in a no tax state. Grats to him.

Frank might honestly be a loser

Hilarious. How dare 2 non playoff teams make a deal. Probably upset Toronto can't get Luke Schenn now.

Makes sense that Rantanen is holding up the entire market. Carolina better decide what they're doing quickly

Sounds like the Owner wants him gone if he won't sign. Curious where he ends up.

Trades starting

@Zirakzigil should we make a TDL specific thread?

Uh I think the Penguins will actually be able to get a 2nd for Grzelcyk

2nd for Grzelyck come and get him.

Might?

I do get what he's saying though to an extent. It is kind of a bizarre trade given the players involved and the timing. As much as some may not like Dubas, I couldn't imagine being a Preds fan with Trotz in place. Woof.
I can't fathom a world where we don't send out Schenn out. Teams are going to come calling and he ain't gonna be the difference between us making the playoffs and not.

I can’t believe they would flip him…are they trying to win the Cup? Who cares if he walks…I don’t believe they’ll get a better player or as good a player back…they should be all in like the Pens used to be and we kept our own rentals lol

Damn, that's a good return for Dumo.

Please don't wait Dubas! You don't want to be offering Schenn and Gryz late tomorrow with other teams saying "sorry, we spend our 2nd/3rd already!"

That said, I think it was reported that Dubas wanted to make his deals today because if he sends out roster players, they might not be able to call up and get a guy out to Vegas in time before they play.

So...today is the day!

I could absolutely see them flipping him after Guentzel walked last year.

I don't think you can part with the pieces they spent to get Jake and Rantanen just to have both of them walk. It sucks but that's insane imo. Rantanen hasn't really even been good for them thus far either tbh.

I think Rod the Bod is part of the problem there. Not that he’s a bad coach but his system seems to be more restrictive for the sake of good team defense.
