No, he is not Rust but better, he is completely different from Rust.

Rust is straight line north and south, one move to the net, who when is not being lazy is a board battler. He is an ok passer and has much more success close to the net

Marner is an elite playmaker, with a sneaky shot, who is elite at reading plays to break them up. He is constantly getting his stick in the way, or sneaking up behind plays with stick lifts or deflecting shots and passes. He has the ability to read plays and find teammates at a top of the league level.

These players are completely different

I honestly do not know what you are talking about with Marner. He's an elite 2-way player that Sullivan would be absolutely frothing in the mouth if this team could sign. There is no reason to think that Sullivan would somehow not use him to his strengths because he's almost the exact perfect Mike Sullivan player.

Pretty certain the Jake situation went like this; Dubas and Jake's camp met the summer before he was dealt. Jake's camp wanted a huge contract and assurance the team was going to be competitive. Dubas didn't want to commit a colossal deal to a 30 year old with the team on a steep and steady decline. Two sides very far apart in the summer. Talks shelved, Jake's camp feels slighted. No talks during the season. It's public knowledge Jake's camp isn't negotiating in season, whether with Pens or a new team. Jake's dealt, the return is what you'd expect for someone of Jake's caliber but without any indication he's interested in re-signing. Still refuses to talk extension with Carolina. Carolina fizzles out in the playoffs. Talks ramp up and the sides aren't very close. Getting near July and Carolina throws a hail mary 8x8 deal, Jake declines. Carolina trades Jake to Tampa. Jake signs colossal deal, gets to live in a millionaire's life in Florida while playing alongside Kuch and/or Point. End.

There were a bunch of reports that the two sides weren't close, negotiations were at a standstill and not progressing, and Jake's agent publicly saying "this could get very ugly."

Dude left because he wanted to. If he really wanted to be a Penguin, he'd still be here, but there was no reason to take a steep pay cut and wallow in this slopshit organization for the rest of Sid's career before being dealt down the road. He took his colossal deal, ended up with some stellar linemates and on a team gunning for Cups before their window closes.

Worked out for both sides, imo. Anyway, f*** Jake Guentzel. He's a dweeb. :laugh:

I was advocating for bringing in Marner and you said Sullivan would ruin it because "he'd never play him on the PK" and "he ruins everything he touches".

Getting hung up on the exact play style of Marner vs Rust when the point was me saying that Marner is an elite 2-way player that brings everything Rust brings to the table and more is silly.

Seravalli has had a burr up his ass about the Penguins for years. No idea if it comes from his past as a Flyer guy or what.

I've said it before but all you need to know about this clown is that he raged for 10 minutes about Sidney Crosby having no respect for the game because he skipped having his picture taken at the all-star game and a few weeks later practically cried on air in support of Logan Mailloux.

It is kind of funny that Dubas has traded with Trotz so much. I still don't see much of a benefit for Nashville... For the Pens it appears Novak is a potential placeholder on line 2 for something better down the line, and Schenn is either bait, or a good influence for Koly and the kids? I don't know, the trade doesn't hurt us, and gives more flippable assets either this year or next.

I feel like he's trashed the Penguins every chance he's gotten for years, even before Dubas. :laugh: But yeah, wouldn't be surprised if Dubas also told him to chill with the constant begging for insider nuggets.
