This is a 2-way street though, the more pieces get traded, the fewer available pieces there are.

Tampa is no longer in on Rakell (if they were in before), but teams also can't trade for Bjorkstrand now. There really aren't many legitimate top-6 options available, and Bjorkstrand being off the board takes another one waway.

I guess that's one way to look at it.

We will see. Reminds me a lot of how Eller was definitely being moved last deadline.

That would be great but I think like Trouba, some dumb team will pay value for Kreider
Definitely not the team that has a coach that likely lobbied (in part or entirely) to get Kreider on Team USA over guys like Tage, Caufield, Keller, or Robertson. Also definitely not the coach that scratched Connor to dress Kreider in the championship game.

Nah, it came out relatively early that there was zero interest in Eller.

We wanted him to be moved but I don't even remember anyone suggesting it.

Florida is likely signing Puljujarvi to an NHL deal. He was on an AHL PTO. He has to go through waivers to be signed to an NHL deal.

Yes he's being signed to a NHL deal and then getting waived and demoted to the AHL. He's still depth for them that will likely be sitting in the AHL for the most part.

I don't think it's controversial, it's a simple supply and demand talk. The demand goes down because another team acquired another guy, but the supply also went down with Bjorkstrand no longer as an option.

It still seems to be a seller's market because there are more teams that need top-6 wingers than there are top-6 wingers available. It's just a question if Dubas is stupid about it.

Allegedly Dubas' ask for Rakell is a 1st / 2nd and Clarke.

From what I've heard LA wants Rakell bad.

Maybe Dubas pulls another rabbit out of his hat here ala Petts.

Clarke would get the same exact treatment as LA here though under Sullivan.

I would shoot ropes if the Penguins somehow managed to pull off Clarke+ for Rakell. Would be highway robbery.

I would even say that Greentree and a 2025 2nd for Rakell would be a pretty satisfying package. Greentree is huge and beating up on the OHL right now, would be really happy with adding him as the primary piece back for Rakell. That said, Clarke is the crown jewel that they could get from LA.

It'd be great until you have Clarke playing left or scratched for Desharnais.

That's the biggest issue with acquiring "great" prospects. Mike Sullivan is still the coach.

I know it's not hugely likely, but what happens if McDavid hits the open market after the end of next year? Could the Pens actually be players in that sweepstakes or do you think the windows just don't line up in a way that would be attractive for McDavid?

Even if that happened, he'd be sliding to RD next year once Karlsson gets traded. Wouldn't be something I'd be overly concerned with.
