Friedman "spit balling" EK65 being a fit in Dallas. What does the return look like?
Depends how much money is retained.

They don't even have any picks left for this years draft, so a 1st for 2026 would be nice.Friedman "spit balling" EK65 being a fit in Dallas. What does the return look like?
Young goalies are tough. You want them to play and develop and do so at the NHL level if you have any hope for them but you also risk Carter Harting them. I mean cratering play, not.....that other thing.
It would probably help to have an actual goaltender coach who has a track record of development which I'm not sure the Penguins have EVER employed. With a bevy of young keepers that you hope turn into legitimate starters, now would be a good time to consider that.
Couldn't agree more. You don't want to ruin or stunt the development of Blomqvist in anyway, especially for this season. I would be a bit shocked if they didn't send him down and bring up Larsson sometime soon. I wondered yesterday if we would see that announcement today.People haven't been talking about it much here but Blomqvist really shouldn't be in the NHL right now. He's not doing well in the NHL and he hasn't been WBS' best goalie.
Send him down and bring up Larsson.
I would ask for something like 2026 1st + Dumba + 2026 3rd or a prospect. Christian Kyrou would be my preference. If we could get Bourque, that would be even better.Friedman "spit balling" EK65 being a fit in Dallas. What does the return look like?
I'd be willing to retain a bit more but I think what we'd be asking for from Dallas for that retention may go over the mark a bit. They are talking about Seth Jones at $9.5mil and I imagine there's no retention there. They have Benn coming off the books and if they dump Dumba as well, it gets pretty easy to accomodate.Depends how much money is retained.
What... Andy "The (Other) Dragon" Chiodo doesn't inspire confidence?

Panthers also make sense but cap will be harder to figure out with them. Their right side after Ekblad is a travesty and as a whole they aren't getting much offensive production from their DEK65 to Dallas makes a ton of sense to me and I hope Dubas offers 50% retention to maximize the return.

Yeah, to be clear I don't view EK65 as a cap dump. I think at 50% off he should be worth a 1st, a prospect, and a mediocre NHLer making 2 to 4MM aav for the next year or two. If it's like EK65 for 10MM of cap dumps and a 2nd I'd rather keep him.Makes sense if you actually get back anything.
Makes zero sense to just move on from EK65. He will retain value and is the # 1 driver of offense on this team.
You keep him unless he asks out or the return is so large you can't refuse it, which I highly doubt it will be.
So he's been reading this board since Heiskanen got hurt?Friedman "spit balling" EK65 being a fit in Dallas. What does the return look like?
Yeah, I'm not wanting to do another Pettersson trade where we take back two bad contracts. I'm willing to take 1 as long as it comes with a decent pick and prospect.Yeah, to be clear I don't view EK65 as a cap dump. Yes, the premise is EK would fill in for Heiskanen this year and bolster their 2nd pairing next year. Bourque is a good young piece that will develop well I think. It depends on what you consider the main piece though. If it's 1st, Dumba, and Bourque, I consider the 1st to be the main piece. So he's been reading this board since Heiskanen got hurt?
I'd be very underwhelmed if a Karlsson deal with Dallas had Bourque as the main piece coming back. And since they'd almost certainly have to send Dumba as well, who is the definition of useless cap dump, the price goes up.
In terms of skillset, there's no one even slightly similar to Karlsson who may be available. You want a generational offensive defenseman who is the only player who could potentially fill the hole left by Heiskanen?
It's Bichsel or bust.
Then they don't actually want Karlsson.Yes, the premise is EK would fill in for Heiskanen this year and bolster their 2nd pairing next year. They aren't doing Bichsel nor should they. We didn't sell off our best prospects/roster dmen/forward when Sid/Geno were down in 2011 and we only gave up a 2nd to get Hainsey when Letang went down in 2017. They need Bichsel more than EK.
Hopefully their scouting department.Friedman "spit balling" EK65 being a fit in Dallas. What does the return look like?
I mean, I don't know how to reply to that exactly as I stated Bourque would be coming back. He was a PPG center in the AHL and is doing well in the NHL this year. I guess in terms of prospects, he'd probably be a A. As is, he looks like a young NHL roster player. Then they don't actually want Karlsson.
If the return is Bourque, a 2026 1st (which will be somewhere in the pick 26+ range), and Dumba (pure cap dump), then there needs to be at least a B+ prospect also coming back.
I just remembered we gave Graves a 5 year contract. 5 years! I wish our GM would go golfing or shopping for new puffer vest’s on July 1.
There can only be retention by the Pens since San Jose already retained 1.5 on him.I would love it if EK when to Florida. I'm rooting for them to repeat. I just have no idea what an actual deal looks like. I think they only do if we retain heavily - like 50%, maybe even a 3rd party to retain a bit more. They need to keep funds open to resign Bennett who is more important to their playoff dreams than EK would be. Looking at their prospect pool, it's pretty bleak.
