Nah. Actually if we stop and think for half a second, Dubas has been quite consistent about getting futures for every piece he moves. He surely could have got a 2nd or 3rd for bunting. Maybe he likes Novak, but he’s definitely got a plan to acquire more futures here.

Novak is a guy we've talked about in the past here, I know @Gurglesons was advocating for bringing him in. I do see the appeal of swapping Bunting for him. Novak's offensive upside is way higher and he can play center.

I feel like this trade is a win for the Penguins solely because I think it makes less sense for the Predators than it does for the Penguins.

The bar has sunk so low that our wins are based on being less dumb than our trade partners. I can dig it.

I don't know enough to disagree. I just know that his "physicality" is a myth at this point and he was never very good to begin with. Ask Carolina fans.
 
Hate to be cliche, but these feel like dominoes....

Not sure why you get Novak who is only a couple years younger and one mill cheaper plus Luke Schenn who has years left unless you're planning something else. Doesn't fit any logical plan. Plus clearing out Desharnais because??

Either we're flipping Luke Schenn for someone more expensive, or we got a slightly more reliable defenseman than Desharnais because we're trading a bigger one and need some wiggle room cap-wise. Stinks of Karlsson with retention or we're including one of our other D in a bigger trade.

I wouldn't be surprised if they kept Schenn when you consider that the defense is butter soft and Karlsson is almost definitely being traded in the off-season.

The swap feels weird for sure, but it's a win for the Penguins IMO. I think we'll need to see how more dominos fall though before we can draw a firm conclusion on it, I am honestly unsure how they plan on using Novak.

I just wanna know why the hell Toronto didn't make this trade with Nashville. Unless Nashville really wanted Bunting, for some reason.
 
Alternative view point - we have another young center that we could send out. Devils needed a 3C, Winnipeg would like one...Plenty of others as well. I would bet the individual returns on Novak and Schenn are greater than the single return we'd get for Bunting alone.
