Like, I totally understand the sentiment of, "you have a billion dollars, why do you need more?" At that point, it is literally not making a difference, unless you are a malformed creature, like you say. But the reason I outlined those #s was to demonstrate that Tristan Jarry's qualify of life (and that of his family) will be MEANINGFULLY different by collecting the rest of the money that is owed to him. I’m simply stating that the metrics important to me wouldn’t dictate making more money than I need.

I’m not telling anyone else how to live their lives. I completely understand the difference especially when agent fees, and taxes are factored in. I have an MBA in Finance.

I see that the world is a rock, and we’re monkeys fighting for hierarchy on it. I choose to not participate as much as possible.

There are so many contradictions in this post alone, let alone in combination with what you've said previously. I won't even bother to address it all, I'll just leave it at this: you spent almost a decade in academia studying finance of all topics. You have unarguably "participated in the fight on the hierarchy" quite a bit more than "as a little as possible," and you certainly are interested in earning more money than merely what you "need."

Have no interest in spending what could potentially be a 2026 unprotected 1st on a player we'd be paying like 6-7 mil to who is a few hits away from not having a career.

20M in cap space to go sign a stud RW and LD seems dooable. I'd throw 14M at Marner or Rantanen. 8+ at Boeser or Ehlers. LD UFAs are slim pickings. Gavrikov, Chychrun or Lindgren maybe.

Novak rocks. Would be a killer add for us and we could probably get him back on the level he was previously and return a pick with him.

Obviously that's the intention with all the additions. Ehlers, Novak, and Hague are the type of players you leverage into picks.

I can't imagine Clarke is available though. Byram could be due to Buffalo having Dahlin and Powers on LD.

I loved the way he played in 2022 but since then he’s tried to become an OFD like he was in junior and I think he kinda sucks.

I agree nuance isn’t always received well here, and I understand your point about Sully not having a great roster to work with, other warts notwithstanding.

That said, last year especially, there were times when this team, not just 1 or 2 players, looked like a top-10 team in the league. Every team will have inconsistency throughout the season, but I wonder how much better they could have been (again, especially last year) with a different coach.

Maybe Sullivan maxed them out. We’ll never know, and I wish we would have at least tried

Yeah my point regarding Sullivan was just specifically about this year and this roster. He has hurt the roster for years and the roster today is still underperforming where it should be. That said, the roster today is absolute crap and I don't have any expectations that a coach should be getting this team anywhere even close to making the playoffs. They just don't have the talent to do it anymore.

There are a myriad of reasons to fire Sullivan at this point, I just thought that specific one of "the team isn't close to a playoff spot" wasn't valid. I attribute that to the roster more than Sullivan this year, because the roster is just comically bad. Anything before this year? 100% on Sullivan.
 
Also in terms of the 2025 draft, apparently Bobby Mac is saying that there's a sharp decline in talent beyond pick 20 and guys in the 2nd round this year are more normally 3rd round caliber. That makes me really conflicted on whether I want the Rangers pick this year or next year, pick #25 next year may yield a better prospect than pick #16 this year.

I think the Rangers are a pretty safe bet to bounce back and be better next year than this year, but the apparent difference in draft strengths for this year versus next year do make me wonder about the pick. If that pick falls in the 2025 draft, I may be tempted to try to move up in the draft to get either Misa or Hagens using that pick. I think the difference between say Desnoyers and Misa may be worth trading that mid 1st.

Their roster is all a year older and they probably will make some real dumb decisions in UFA to be competitive.
