Salary Cap: '24-'25 Salary Thread: Crosbicles Volume MMXXV - Poolman and Poolparty?!?

Bro, they're like the 6th worst team with him.
His goal scoring is heating up. All it takes is someone else on the team to beat up with him and we are close enough to make that 6th worst turn into 14th worst.

If he goes out for something for a couple weeks, that 6th worst turns into 3rd or 4th worst.

Hallander isn't confirmed yet AFAIK.

If a team truly wants Rakell - looks at his contract as a positive (no retention) and will put up a 1st or equivalent prospect - then I can justify moving him. Otherwise, his value here is high enough that the juice isn't worth the squeeze. We don't need to move him for the sake of moving him.
Not confirmed but supposedly his current team is under the impression he isn't returning.
I think it's a leap to pencil him on the 3rd line.

Hallander can't get out of his current contract and accept an offer from the Penguins until the offseason, though he and the Penguins are allowed to come to a verbal agreement. Expressen said Hallander, his agent, and Timra's sports manager declined to comment on the matter but reported that Timra is planning as if Hallander will be gone next season, and Hallander is preparing to make the move.

I don't think it's a leap to assume he'd be on their 3rd line if he's coming over. Randy posted this in the other thread but copying it from there:

"In this game, Hållander drives play in different kind of ways in almost all of his shifts. He feels like a weapon every time he steps onto the ice. He plays a power forward game with strong skating, energy and inside-drive. He has added a slightly better touch at high pace and more various ways to attack now versus his last stint in North America. His defensive game is dominant. He continuously breaks up plays and retrieves pucks for his team. He plays a strong game around the crease. He creates mostly with speed, power and turnovers rather than with space-opening stick handling. He plays a low position close to the goal on the power play and is effective there. He assisted on both goals for Timrå and contributed to many of their scoring chances all game. I can see him playing a Patric Hörnqvist kind of role in the NHL next season. Hållander is most probably a soon 25-year-old rookie on the Pittsburgh Penguins roster. He has been one of the best players in the SHL this season, and if he has a future NHL career , now is the time!"

He's over a PPG in the SHL and is apparently really impressing over there. I don't think it's exactly a stretch to think he's 3rd line caliber based on how much he's producing in the SHL.

It doesn’t really matter but I just noticed Accari has another year at 2 million. Who da fug offers that kind of player that contract?
He made a big impression on Toronto when they got him. Hasn’t even come close to being that guy in Pittsburgh sadly

I do expect him to go on a bit of a run, he's playing well, but still shooting well-below his career average, so I expect a little uptick, but I don't know that it's enough to really tip the scales, when he's literally the only person on this team who can score right now.

Hallander does do some net front stuff but not to the tenacity that Hornqvist did. Hallander is also a better skater and more skilled. At least that's how I saw him in his WBS days. I'm excited for him to come back. The last Swedish article I saw was from December 11 and pretty much indicated it was a done deal. I think that's the same article DK references. Glad he's coming back (allegedly).

McGroarty has a similar skill set but isn't as nimble. Hopefully more skilled than Hallander though.

I like Hallander and McGroarty as a 3rd line wing duo for next year. They both fit what Sullivan wants defensively out of his bottom-6 and should be able to punch in a decent amount of secondary scoring. They just need a good playmaking center, Glass isn't quite good enough for what I want as a 3C but he does fit the play style.

They won't do that because it's too aggressive though, I'm expecting they'll start next year with something like:

Rakell-Crosby-Rust
Bunting-Malkin-low cost RW addition like Beauvillier this year
Hallander-Glass-Tomasino
Lizotte-Ponomarev-Acciari

Bunting's gone next year. Possibly sooner rather than later if the Eller deal is any indication.

And it'd be nice if these guys weren't simply handed top 6 roles out of a total lack of options
Handed top 6 roles is an odd way to put it. I would say put in a position to succeed by playing with other talented players.

It’s why I’m afraid Koivunen is going to get Sullied. He’s not the fastest so a lot of his game is predicated on finding his team mates, and finding open ice. Yes, he would have easier matchups, but if he passes to Nieto, then finds open ice only for Nieto to dump it in, it’s going to limit his effectiveness.

Hockey really needs to modernize their thought process on this. The NHL is hard enough for young players, why make it harder by trying to have them succeed in a vacuum with sub par line mates?

Well yeah I don't think anyone is arguing to move him for the sake of moving him. It's about selling high on him as they likely will be able to get a good return for him if they move him.

If you can do something like Rakell to Buffalo for Rosen and a 2nd, I think it's a no brainer to make that move. I think that's a realistic package that you can get (Koivunen caliber prospect and mid/high 2nd), although you may also need to take a contract back.
Yeah, that's a deal I'd likely pull the trigger on.

All that matters is Sid finishing the year a PPG player, nobody said it had to be a full season.
Some guys on the mainboard would disagree

It's a fair concern. I think he will be put in the same group as Tomasino, Puljujarvi, Puustinen, and Beauvillier. He's a top 9 wing who doesn't PK. There are three, MAYBE four slots but you already have Rakell, Bunting, McGroarty and a couple others for next year. I don't know think he's well suited for the "defensive 3rd line". I think it's more "top 6 or bust" not unlike Puustinen. Not unless he meshes well with a 3C and another skilled RW.

But I do think there are options. Koivunen-Glass-Hallander, Koiv-Pono-Hallander, McGroary-Glass/Pono-Koiv are all possibilities.

I just hope we can see him get some spot duty in the NHL this year after the TDL.
Tampa fan said they'd do 1st and a 2nd and Sheary for Rakell at 50%.
Lol, I'm sure they would.

Not nearly enough if they're eating 50% on Rakell's deal.

Using up a retention slot for 4 years just to get that isn't worth it.

I had to take a peak at Shearys contract. Bury it in AHL and only take 700k cap hit?

2.5 million for most likely a low end 1st and low end 2nd. Hmmm.

I'd hate to help Tampa but maybe a 2027 1st and the lower of the two Kings / Leafs pick? If not allowed I lean Kings.

I'd almost want more a 2.5 million 50 point player is worth a lot.
