Salary Cap: '24-'25 Salary Thread: Crosbicles Volume MMXXV - Poolman and Poolparty?!?

I don't know, could be, he'll be stapled to Sid from here on out.

He's also about to be 32 and players of his age tend to regress pretty quickly.

There's also some value in not having Crosby develop chronic depression.

Keep Rust to play RW with Crosby if Crosby's feelings are such a problem.

Just run with McGroarty-Crosby-Rust or Koivunen-Crosby-Rust and I think Sid will survive.

There's a danger in throwing in too many young players in a top 6 too early too.

Really, the return would determine it. If its a 1st rounder or equivalent, sure, pull the trigger. Anything less than that and I feel there'd be more value in hanging on and moving him in a later year.

We have a 1st, and three 3rds in the draft? Would be nice to add a 2nd in there. More scratch off tickets we have the better. I hope MP can get that kind of return.

How would they be doing that? You'd at most have 2, one with Malkin and one with Crosby.

You'd likely be running with:

McGroarty-Crosby-Rust
Bunting-Malkin-Koivunen

Bunting's gone next year. Possibly sooner rather than later if the Eller deal is any indication.

And it'd be nice if these guys weren't simply handed top 6 roles out of a total lack of options

People are coming up with some wild reasons to not trade the players that might actually have some value. Cap floor? Too many young guys? There will be Beau types in FA that would be more than happy to be overpaid for a year and play with Sid Crosby if either of those end up being a concern.

I'm not saying they have to trade Rakell, but if you get a good offer, take it.

Yes but he'll still be here for the rest of this year and likely up until the trade deadline next year, so I don't see how that has to do with anything.
Because that would mean we'd have one legit top 6 winger whenever Bunting moves on. I'd rather not.

Plus, I'd rather Sid have a better shot at a PPG this season with Rakell. There have been precious few reasons to enjoy the Pens this year and that would be one.

Koivunen has been the best scoring rookie winger in WBS since Guentzel, so I don't see how they'd be "handing him a top-6 role out of a lack of options".

Or maybe McGroarty and Koivunen would use the next year in the top-6 to prove that they are legit top-6 wingers?

That's not very appealing either.

And McG. And whoever else when Bunting moves on.

There's nothing wrong with starting on a 3rd line and waiting for injury opportunities.

The Penguins already have Tomasino as a young top-9 scoring winger in the NHL along with McGroarty and Koivunen looking NHL ready in WBS and Hallander coming back to NA. They could trade Rakell right now and add no top-9 wingers and be totally fine with this to start for next year:

Koivunen-Crosby-Rust
Bunting-Malkin-Tomasino
Hallander-3C-McGroarty

If having insurance for Koivunen or McGroarty is such a concern, re-sign O'Connor and look for another Beauvillier type UFA as well to give some extra top-9 caliber wingers.

I think I'd leave most of the good WBS players in WBS this season. Keep them away from this shit show and hopefully let them go deep in the AHL playoffs.

Speaking of, I wonder if they recall Jarry around the trade deadline and send Blomqvist back. There's some sort of deadline for players to be eligible for the AHL playoffs.

It largely depends on how they'd be used for me. If they're called up to play in the bottom-6, keep them with WBS. If they'll be playing with Crosby and Malkin, I think getting 10-15 games in the top-6 in the NHL and then going back down for the AHL playoffs would be worthwhile.

I think it coincides with the NHL trade deadline.

Would give McGroarty and the Finnish Dude a few games

Hallander isn't confirmed yet AFAIK.

If a team truly wants Rakell - looks at his contract as a positive (no retention) and will put up a 1st or equivalent prospect - then I can justify moving him. Otherwise, his value here is high enough that the juice isn't worth the squeeze. We don't need to move him for the sake of moving him.

Well yeah I don't think anyone is arguing to move him for the sake of moving him. It's about selling high on him as they likely will be able to get a good return for him if they move him.

If you can do something like Rakell to Buffalo for Rosen and a 2nd, I think it's a no brainer to make that move. I think that's a realistic package that you can get (Koivunen caliber prospect and mid/high 2nd), although you may also need to take a contract back.

Yeah don’t trade Rakell just trade him. I get he might fall off soon but that makes no sense.

If someone throws a first or a good young player that’s a different story.
