I just can't see the Pens paying assets to add a 31 year old to the team even if Miller is still playing at a high level.

They aren't a JT Miller away from being competitive.

Also DK actually apologized to Jessie for slandering him (I guess because Taylor yelled at him) but as usual with DK he did it in a semi-douchey way. Still surprised that he even admitted fault at all. Maybe the first time I've ever seen him do that.

The sole justification for trading for Miller would be if you're getting him cheap now and plan on flipping him for more later. But I doubt you're getting him for that cheap right now (or at least a "cheap" price I'd be comfortable paying) and his age makes gambling on "flipping him later" very risky.

Even if they did it I don't like the thought of doing it mid season and then having Miller come in here and play well and spark the team into picking like 14th or something.

I hate to say it because it sucks to suck but they could really use a top 5 pick and seem to be tracking towards one. Best not to do anything that might jeopardize that.

From what i have read it seems Pettersson is laid back and Miller is like we have to go all out and fix it.

If we could get Miller for cheap I'd love that attitude.

Like I said, I think the idea would be you are giving up MP28 for Miller, a 1st and Hoglander so that Vancouver can sign MP28 long term.

Saves Vancouver 11 mil in cap next year and gives them an actual competent D behind Hughes on the left side.

I think the defense is so bad that no forward could actually make this team not a disaster.

Then you don't make any deadline deals outside of Petts.
 
I was all for Miller like 2 years ago. The contract absolutely sucks, but it would have given them a legitimate last chance with Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Guentzel, etc. The attitude stuff I wouldn't have minded, at least for a while. This team is so vanilla. Boring. Adding some snarl (or the opposite MAF-style positivity) seems needed. Just something different where they aren't this going through the motions, robotic, glob of blah.

Now, I dunno. Is he really enough to make a difference? And when Sid and Geno are gone in 3 years, Miller's gonna be 'dying alive' in Pittsburgh at 35, with 3 more years left on his contract at $8M/year with a shitty attitude. Can't rely on flipping him at that point. It would be one thing if he was just way overpaid for a few years, but do you want that attitude around for the next crop of young guys?

I would have a hard time believing Miller has negative value. There's probably 30 teams that would take him if they could. I think it's just coming down to price. I imagine Vancouver wants more than a 2nd + prospect for him. I could maybe see an issue of "price plus no retention" which means you likely have to send cap back which complicates things.

If he truly has no value, offer Karlsson.

I think the main issue is Vancouver is going to want players that can help them now for Miller. If they would take a futures heavy package I'm sure the deal would be done already.
