"No single team can advance in the draft order by reason of winning a Lottery Draw more than two times in any five-year period."

Okay so it is just winning any pick means you can't win, that would definitely suck then.

At the same time, you're still likely to get a clear franchise player with those picks, you just have to hope you pick the right ones. Like if they get the #3 pick this year and draft Misa, I won't be disappointed with that.

We should just get the #3 pick by being the 3rd worst team by the end of the year. We're not catching Chicago or SJ, but all the other teams below us (Anaheim, Buffalo, Isles, Preds) would rather end the season on a winning note than get a high pick. The good news is, we've played more games than all of them. Start the tank.

Nah if they finish as the 3rd worst team and don't win a lottery, they'll be picking somewhere between 4-6 depending on who wins the lottery for the top-3 picks.

I don't really care how it happens, but this team needs to be in the running to win McKenna and Dupont. People want a retool on the fly, well, those two dudes go a long way toward accomplishing that. Just hope they don't end up being Lafreniere and Kakko.

This isn't the draft to win the lotto for. It's the next two. I'd be happy with any of the top-4 guys though--best prospect on paper they'll have had since Staal was drafted. But McKenna and Dupont are the real prizes, and hopefully this team will have traded all of EK, Petts, Rakell, Bunting and Rust by next year to help make a run at those two.

Schaefer has huge potential.

Hagens will likely be a 1C.

I would have no problem adding either of those two to this prospect system.

The big two hold the cards. If they want out, they'll go to the team and ask out. They'll never be approached to waive, imo. That being said, Sid's made it clear he doesn't want to leave, and by all accounts, Geno only really cares about sticking around with Sid--so as long as Sid's here, Geno is too. /shrug

They'll just have to accept playing for a bottom feeder tanking for top picks though. The ability to pull up on the controls and try to salvage this team's nose dive is about half a decade in the rear view.

Geno's possibly only playing for one more season so I doubt he cares. I think he'll play out his contract and then retire/go to Russia. Maybe he'll play past it in the unlikely event that the Pens have a good season next year and make the playoffs.

Just taking a look at the contracts and acquired draft picks… it crossed my mind that while the present is important. I’ve been wondering if Dubas is just posturing himself for the 2027 draft. It’s a long way off, but that offseason will see the core pretty much be done, and realistically the next great talent available in the draft. Having picks to move up or gain an additional first. I know it’s two years away, but just a thought.

It will truly be a fresh start to the franchise and could really see what team Dubas wants/builds.

Dubas has no plan. Acting like he intentionally made this team bad is hilarious.

If Dubas was looking to future, he wouldn't have taken back Bunting, Koivunen and Pono in the Carolina deal and he wouldn't have traded Yager for McGroarty.

lol, being a corpo suit in a sports team is the easiest job in the world.
The silver lining of being owned by a conglomerate of finance bros is that there may be just enough money and cocaine in that boardroom to do something drastic like fire Kyle Dubas.

The bad news will be when they replace him with Mike Sullivan.

Can advance, so I assume that means move up. You can't move up more than 2x in a 5yr period. So if you finish 32, 32, 32 - you are still eligible for 3 1st ov if that's the way the drawings go, yes?

Not that I'm huge on Dubas, but Werner should STFU..... He saddled his GM with an Ironclad contract with the dope from beantown who's been Mediocre outside of an 18 month span.
