The big reason I'm skeptical about this "WBS players are coming soon" idea is that Sullivan will only play them in specific roles so the spots to be potentially opened are fairly small. Just trading O'Connor and Beauvillier isn't going to open up the spots for young guys if Sullivan is still going to force Glass to 2RW or Hayes to 3C.

They'll call up McGroarty to be the 3rd line LW and maybe give Bemstrom a shot on L3. I see no reason to believe this team would do more than that because they haven't shown they're willing to do more than that.

Yeah it would be easier if we weren't already flush with NHL players and have dealt with few injuries. In years past, we typically see WBS guys come up to cover for injuries but we've been pretty lucky this year on that front. Not saying I'm hoping for injuries but if guys like Nieto and Acciari and a Beauvillier go down, and they trade a couple guys, we could see more guys up.

Emp, do you recall that recent article that talked about Puljujarvi but the guy actually took the time to discuss the roster construction? Any idea who that was or where to find that article again?

I saw this from Yohe. Don't shoot the messenger. :dunno:

They will call up Bemstrom and Koppanen and Puustinen and move Graves into the line up.

1 win in the last 8. Losses to the Wings, Jackets, Sens and Kraken in that time.
God...just blow it up already wtf. It was obvious years ago that they're done winning championships, but they just can't help themselves. Have to keep messing around, wasting seasons...
But bro, what about Sid, Geno and Letang? We owe it to them man!!!!

This recent losing streak really hasn't changed my stance on what the team should do: keep the valuable players unless you're getting a good offer for them and try to trade literally everyone else. There is really no benefit for rushing to trade any of Bunting, Rakell or Rust unless you're getting good offers for it, so I'd hold onto them unless someone really blows you away with an offer. With how good of a year Rakell is having, I feel like that is possible someone can do with him.

In an ideal world, they end up with a forward group of something like this post-deadline:

Rakell-Crosby-Rust
Bunting-Malkin-Koivunen
McGroarty-Broz-Tomasino
Poulin-Lizotte-Acciari
Hayes

All of Glass, Nieto, Beauvillier and O'Connor should be traded for futures and replaced with young guys from WBS. Even if you don't intend on going into next year with Koivunen on L2 or Broz as the 3C, there is no harm to spend 20-30 games to end this year giving them those kind of minutes.

I figured a young NHL player would be the primary type of asset for the Penguins to target but fair enough and thanks for the feedback.

While Berggren hasn't had a great season he's been better than the counting stats would indicate. He's been a bit snake bitten (primarily teammates not finishing some great chances).

Detroit isn't in a position where they can move pieces like ASP, Danielson, Cossa, 1st so if that's the asking price Detroit has no business being in that mix, even with an extension. If something below that level of prospect can get it done, I would be very interested.

Us fans are looking for a 1st or 2 2nds type value.

Ben Chariot got a 1st and Petterson is better. So that's the line.

I'm still hoping one of Rust or Rakell will be moved, Petts and EK as well. They're having good seasons and there could be something interesting out there for us to stock up. Create cap space and see what can be done in the off season with solid free agents that could be available. I know it's a long shot but Marner, Ehlers, Boeser etc..

Unless they're getting good offers for them, they shouldn't be moving them for the sake of moving them.

They already have a boatload of cap space to use in the off-season, they shouldn't be trading valuable players just for the sake of trading them.

Yeah I wouldn’t gut the team for the sake of it. They seem capable of losing on their own.

If they get an offer that makes sense long term fine but to have our best wingers be Bunting and Tomasino for a couple of 2nd’s is stupid.

On the main board there's a thread about the Oilers and their need for a dman. Obviously Pettersson is discussed quite a bit and the Oilers fans seemed to be okay with Beau Akey + 2nd. Similar to the Pettersson+2nd deal. Akey may not be the physical defensive dman that we might want but he's a RHD RD which are always at a premium. Between him, Brunicke, and Pie - we'd be pretty set for PMDs. Even better, we'd have Brunicke and Akey for the right side and Pie and Pickering for the left side so it offers a nice balance.
I like Rakell, but if the right offer comes along ...
If Rakell was 5 years younger, a deal around Rakell and Cozens would make sense, to me. Not 1:1 but a goal-scoring wing is something Buffalo sorely needs. Zucker is their 2nd leading scorer. Then Tuch. I believe Thompson has been playing wing as well with Cozens centering him.

Cozens out for a solid forward and then Powers out for a solid center coming back just to change things up a bit is what I would be looking to do if I were them.

What does breaking point mean? Is he just on the trade block with max retention? Is he going to be waived and sent to the AHL?

Pretty vague.
