But Dubas told Sid he would give this team a chance to compete, and they tell the fanbase in pressers that they're still trying super duper hard to be relevant while Sid's still around. You tellin' me they've been lyin'? A bit of japes and jests?
The Pittsburgh Half Asses.

You really want to see Sid spend the remaining of his career surrounded by that?
I think Sid's a top-5 player all time, so his legacy is cemented to me. Watching him climb the points ladder would be cool and pretty much the only thing that this team's been worth watching for lately, but no, I'm not really concerned with who he's surrounded with as his career winds down. Stopping this half-assed bullshit of landing in the 12-14th overall pick no man's land is more important than Sid getting an extra like 20pts a season imo. I think it's shittier to watch this team feed the fanbase bullshit about seriously trying to compete while playing losers like DOC or Cody Glass or Kevin Hayes or Matt Grzelcyk in relatively prominent roles all season long than it'd be to rip the band-aid off and start selling pieces that have value and settling in to try and land some legit gems like McKenna or Dupont in the next few drafts. People really want this team to rebuild on the fly and reduce the pain of the post-Sid and Geno era right? That's how you do it. /shrug

This has been a one line team for close to a decade anyway, and barely so. I'm not sure the team is really concerned with who Sid's surrounded with all that much either tbh.

It's not even a rebuild though. That's the thing that sucks. They *should* go into next season without Petts, EK, Rust, and Bunting on the roster, but I'd be shocked if they were smart enough to do that.

-edit- And of course, Sullivan. If they were serious about trying to shift gears to focus on the next chapter more, they wouldn't have this f***ing loser in charge of molding the game/development of the next crop of premium prospects they'll be getting sooner than later.
They'll move Pettersson unless they're firmly in a spot at the TDL I think.

Rust is probably not going anywhere any time soon. They aren't going to trade every winger that Sid has.

As for EK and Bunting....those are off season moves if they happen at all.

That's my point. They're half-assing things and have been for years. Rust is leaps and bounds the most valuable and tradeable asset in the org and his NTC drops this July 1st, but for some reason this team simply refuses to entertain moving the guy. EK experiment failed because of the coach, but instead of cutting their losses and doing what's best for all parties, who knows if he's dealt. Bunting's stabilized and hopefully built a bit of value, but y'know, can't trade everybody or somethin'. We've got 14th overall picks to chase.

Rakell has great value right now, just sayin.

This Wild Card race is gonna be pretty interesting. We're pacing for another low bar year.
If this was gonna be one of those high 90's years, the Pens would already be done. They're lucky.

They should def. trade Raks while they can. Before an injury or drop-off.
I don’t really understand why so many are talking like there is a good chance of Rakell being traded this deadline. Teams seem not very willing to acquire Rak quality players that have term left. I can’t imagine teams are lining up to make offers with 3 more years left on his deal unless they’re sending an equally long but worse contract back. Maybe over the summer, but I don’t see it now.

We need to get Elias Pettersson and get him tutored by Sid so he can turn into the Swedish Datsyuk we know he can be

WTF, I love league parity now!

Nah, we'd be better off with Miller. But EP40 for EK65 would be lovely.

We need to trade Rakell cause he's not really good enough, despite kinda working recently in the top line

... But we aren't gonna get anyone better

Pens theme song the last five years..."Not good, but can't get better"

How many are really in the position to be traded? If the data says what it says that players in Rakell's situation don't get traded, fine I guess. But with 3/$15m left on his contract GMs are going to fall all over themselves to give worse players worse contracts on July 1. Surely the price we paid for Zucker all those years ago isn't totally out of whack with today's market? Term should be a good thing for a player's value if they are living up to their contract.

Naaah Miller is 6 years older and is way too abrasive. EPs ceiling is massive and could give a team like 6 elite seasons
Yeah, I can't stand Miller, apparently some of his team mates can't either.

Trading Rakell would a the smart move, provided we do so for a ''tidy sum'' yes. lol

The desperation and stupidity ramps up near the deadline. There's not enough quality to go around for buyers.
And I'm not as high on GMs IQ levels as many people are. They will think about short-term gains and their immediate job security.
I think he's definitely tradeable if he comes into the deadline with like 25 goals, 20 assists, which he's on pace to do by game 60.

Taking a long contract back is fine, but the Pens need to be compensated for doing that with picks. If it's just a top-sixer swap with no futures acquired, then yeah, totally pointless.

I wasn't talking about there being a good or bad chance. I'm just saying Dubas should do it. The longer he waits, the more he opens the door to injuries and regression.

Trading Rakell should be on the table. He has term though. So I think Rakell falls into that category of if the right offer comes trade him. If the value isn't coming in he isn't a pending UFA so you do not have to trade him. But if some team comes to Dubas with here is a 1st + Some roster player on a lower salary. Or 2nd + Mid prospect. You 100% take that. All I am saying is there isn't a reason to just cast him off unless a proper offer comes in.

Now Petterson, he is a UFA, by trade deadline if he has not indicated he is willing to re-sign for a term and dollar that fits the teams needs. You have to 100% be moving him. You could retain 50% on him and get HIGH value return on him. 1st + Good prospect or Great prospect + 2nd type of territory on the return probably even more if a team is desperate in a divisional arms race come TDL.
