Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XX

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

This expansion talks is giving me headaches thinking about our mainly AHL roster…

They want an additional 4 teams by 2030 (?!)
I don't even know why you'd do expansion at this point. I mean if you are trying to bring in 4 teams then obviously I'm hoping against hope that the Whale would be one, but I doubt that. Its at least better than Phoenix and Atlanta. Hockey will never work in Atlanta, you've tried it multiple times, time to move on.

The dilution would be crazy. I can’t even comprehend the expansion drafts. Do they do one per year, two in 2028/ 2 in 2030, or all 4 in one year? Regardless that is just going to eff up the league so much. They better allow teams to consider making NMC players eligible in that scenario. If not, our only signed players without full protection in 2028 (the soonest I think they could expand), are Kastelic and Zadorov lol.

It really depends on what direction they want to go. If the goal is to try to cobble together something for 25/26, and you are going to bring Marchy back then I guess adding Tavares for 3 years would make some degree of sense. I tend to doubt Tavares would want to come to Boston for a deal like that

It has the real potential to Nashville on you though and really explode in your face
You aren't wrong but that sure would be a backwards way to go .They need to start accumulating good young talent in early 20s u ask me but hey I am not Donny feeling fans wrath lol

Of course Good young talent in their early 20s are not available in Free Agency. You need to draft them (4 years ago), or trade for them, and they lack assets for trades

Well the next couple seasons it's a good bet Bruins will be going to the ole draft boards early .Far as trades I dunno what could happen there but it sure would help to steal a player or 2..Ps be nice to hit on those 2nd rounders they have too.

But unless they win the lottery this year, you are looking at draft picks that likely won't see Boston for 2 years (likely more if you are talking 2nd rounders), so in that way the older FAs make sense .

Personally i don't sign anyone in their 30s, but if that is the case, then i likely don't get anyone of note in FA

I like the potential of the young players the Bruins got in trades at the deadline. They made assets available to get them.

Minten
Khusnutdinov
Wanner
Zellers

I think the Bruins should drop into top 7 pick looking at this roster but who knows. Anyhow ,if they retool with guys in 30s then its a good bet they are right back here sooner then later..They need a top line centre and that is not falling into their Laps in this off season unless Canucks help them out .Bad spot they are in.

And then these other old guys say,

Did I believe -- do I still believe -- Jeremy Swayman can be a franchise goaltender?

Do I believe he's basically a decent person?

Yes, I do.

Yet I also believe that in his protracted and damaging hold out (on ice, over air, in the room) "Sway" selfishly, immaturely placed himself over everything and anyone else.

This set the tone for a disastrous 2024-25 campaign.

To my knowledge (if I'm wrong, please inform), Jeremy has never uttered a single word of contrition for the hold out and its detrimental fallout.

Swayman blithely acts and speaks as if, somehow, he is a leader on this club.

As excellent as he proved himself to be in comfortable, half & half tandem with Linus Ullmark and two rounds of last season's playoffs, Jeremy has not earned the right to consider himself a leader of the Boston Bruins.

Far from it.

With limited help on the back end (injury #73, #27) and lack of hockey sense (#91), Swayman has been sometimes great, often putrid this season.

So, you know, shut your face and play goal, Jeremy.

If I could trade you, I would.
