Post-Game Talk: GAME 71 - The Bruins wave the white flag - San Jose 3 BRUINS 1

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

By all measures and my own eye test Lysell was our best forward last night besides maybe Pasta. His line was dominant all night. Have no idea how you guys aren’t seeing how good he was.
I said him and Khusy looked good together? They got some chances, but at the end of the day they didn't score a goal. Taking it further I absolutely think Khusnutdinov was the play driver of that line last night. Created turnovers and made smart passes in the offensive zone.

They were able to get to the middle of the slot for some chances which is better than what the other lines were doing. I want him to play well to, but my eye test (and many others apparently) thought he was just okay. Interesting numbers though.

He took over a team that had a .432 pct. Under him they are .675

BOS was .475 w/ Monty and .490 w/ Sacco. Basically the same team.

It's crazy to see a team that was playing Brazzeau, Koepke, Lettieri and other flotsam and jetsam in the top 6 this year and think that the coaching is the primary problem.
I think it's because the PP and PK both sucked and still do.... don't think the system changed at all

They are 8th now, going by pts per games played. Best case scenario is 6th but everything has to line up perfectly. Flyers are tanking like a ruskie ship in the Black Sea. The Pens and Ducks could get past them and maybe just maybe Seattle. It should end up anywhere between 8th and 12th.
Flyers took Stars to overtime yesterday. Bruins need to keep on losing.Ducks should pass them & Penguins 1 pt back same games played.I hate saying Bruins should lose but wins do nothing now unless they winn10 straight type thing.

Interesting, because Monty's rudderless system seems to be working in STL.

Perhaps the problem with the Bruins begins higher up than the 3 coaches this GM will have fired.
It worked great here too the first year until he started to institute his ways.

And by then the poor guy’s career will be cooked

Said it a few years ago Sweeney, Neely and the bruins needed to pivot to the pasta/McAvoy window.

They never did.

Now we are a bottom 10 team, poor farm system and most likely by the time we start turning things around it will be towards the end of the pasta/mcavoy window.

Poorly executed by management IMO

In your first image, #9 is ahead of the play, and covered by Wotherspoon. Koepke is on #74, level with the puck. However, by the time the puck carrier crosses the blue line (second image), 9 and 74 have swapped spots. 74 is F2, and 9 is now trailing the play, and is F3.

As the backchecker, Koepke has switched men, and is chasing F3 (not the puck). In most defensive systems, I'd say this is the correct play... provided Wotherspoon sees the same thing and also switches coverage.

Since I don't know the B's system, I'll hold off on assigning blame to the players, but will absolutely give the finger to the coaching staff. By this point in the season, understanding that coverage should be second nature to the players by benefit of many reps in practice.
Respectfully disagree with your assessment, but agree about the coaching.
In any case another example of how such a routine play can be screwed up so bad resulting in a goal.
They simply don't seem to be on the same page.

Sacco's probably had enough of rants like that. Poor guy is probably nervous as Hell and not sleeping. This is a position he probably never thought that he'd be in.

Yet Monty has the Blues in a solid place to grab a Wild Card. If so...good on him.
Sacco is basically knows he's just a puppet.
He was patient and hung around. When he got his chance he was left with crumbs.
I doubt he'll be back.

Leach may be the worst of the lot......He must go.

Possibly. With assistants it's very hard to tell from the outside what particular impact each one is having. Leach has always been pretty highly rated and he presents well, but perhaps the substance is lacking, who knows? Regardless, my basic argument is the same - keep one for familiarity and to help with the transition, can the rest. Doesn't have to be Jay, just whoever would be best.

The good news is we still get to watch the NHL playoffs and there is nothing in the world like it

Plus, we should get a pretty decent draft position

Better days are ahead
Yup, a relatively stress-free playoffs (relatively, but not completely lol). Cheer for Washington (son-in-law is a Caps fan), cheer for McDavid, cheer against the leafs and cough the habs cough if necessary, and cheer for Florida for two rounds so the 2nd-round pick becomes a a first-rounder, and cheer for overall good hockey. All good (for a year or two. I still want Gavin McKenna in next year’s draft).

That little post-coaching change bump gives Sacco the edge. They were the NHL's best pt. % from Sacco's 1st game until December 9th. (7-2-0 for .778%).

Since Dec. 9th they are essentially tied for 3rd last in pts. % with Seattle/Buffalo/Philly. (.427 to .430 between the 4 teams).
Does it really matter when they sucked, to me sucking is sucking anytime, really sucks with me and I am sure you feel the same way.

You're bang on (as usual) the only thing I would add is that this team has been pretty sound defensively for years ... then Jay Leach was brought in (I believe by Sweeney, not by Monty) to coach the defense, and the D-zone coverage has been a 5h1t-storm all year. If it were me, from what I see, Leach wouldn't be the guy I'd keep. Having said that, watch him become the new head coach, which may have been Sweeney's plan all along when Monty eventually left one way or the other.
