Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XX

As a secondary answer to the Swayman question earlier in the thread. Would I trade Swayman for 1OA? I'd trade Swayman with 25% retention for future considerations at this point. You could reset with another goalie (and maybe a #1 that the team hasn't lost complete faith in) Sorry Sway love you bro

yeah, I love to hear the plan to get a legitimate #1 goalie to boston if they trade Sway

This year has been frustrating as hell, but the dumbest thing they could do is overreact to the season, and completely abandon really good players who have had a bad season. A year ago Sway was the best young Goalie in the NHL, and dominant in the postseason

I see no reason to believe that this season is not the outlier it looks compared to every other season in his career from college on.

Giving him away in a deal like you suggest would cripple this franchise for the next 7 years, but at least we'd lose enough so we can rank higher in the all important Pronman prospect rankings

At this point do you actually need a legit #1? They took "2024 worst goaltender of the year" and turned him into a legitimate backup goalie with some highlight reel saves on the side. Something is wrong here.

And yet Korpisalo still has a worse save percentage than Swayman in what is clearly the worst season of Sways careeer. I like Korp, but in no way is he a #1 goalie.

If the goal is to do what some people want and tank the next 3 - 5 seasons, then it makes perfect sense to trade Swayman and try to bottom out. And they should likely make other tank moves.

Arguably they did that last season, and many people are still up in arms over it.

If they did that where they pick this year, it would likely mean taking McQueen, and his back problems that have limited him the last 2 seasons.
Bruins need to take a centre and they will drop into the top 8 is my bet so they will probably get a chance at it .Good bet Hawks take the D man Schaefer 1st overall if they win lottery ,so that is one pick gone. And if not he will definitely be one of the picks before Bruins pick.Anyhow,no reaches required .

My impression is that there's a plateau at 1-4 (Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Martone), then one at 4-8 (Desnoyers, Frondell, Eklund, Smith), then 1 or 2 guys with issues (McQueen), and 1 or 2 guys in between (O'Brien), then a hard drop off. I don't think they get into the top 4 unless they win the lottery. Top 8 still gets them a good player. 9-10-11 is a maybe and beyond that would suck. They need to put some regulation L's on the board in this road trip, and hopefully in Anaheim.
Good tiers but I would sneak in Carter Bear to that 9-12 group. That achilles laceration is going to drop him down a bit but he could easily be in the top 10 without it.

1.69 ppg is better than Cayden Lindstrom and Tij Iginla who both went top 6 last year in the WHL.

One of the grittiest puck hounds of this group.

Pasta was hurt in his draft year that made him fall a little. You can sometimes find some gems that way. Bear shouldn't be slept on IMO

You have to take a player who is available to you.

Does Frondell have more offensive skill than Desnoyers? Frondell is also considered a 2 way center. Is there anyone behind Desnoyers you see who you think is a dramatically better offensive prospect? carter bear has even better numbers, but is considered more of a 2 way C than Desnoyers is

If the Bruins end up with a pick in the middle of the Top 10, this is the last type of player they should be drafting.

No. 6: Caleb Desnoyers. The Moncton Wildcat is viewed as perhaps the most complete two-way centre in the draft who projects in the NHL as a second-line centre or, worst case scenario, an elite third-line shutdown centre.

“Think a Phil Danault-style player,” said one scout.

Desnoyers was ranked as high as No. 5 by one scout and no lower than No. 10. He’s viewed as a safe and secure pick. If you believe his offence will pop at the pro level, he’s a top five consideration.

OK great, but Desnoyers is 3rd in his league in points, and 2nd in PPG MUCH better offensive numbers than Danault had in his draft year.

OK here is the player generally rated one pick in front of him Anton Frondell
Frondell has displayed his strengths consistently over the last few months. His strength lies in his ability to combine his strong awareness, drive and hockey IQ with his 200-foot game. Overall, he possesses great composure and poise at such a young age, much like Leo Carlsson in his draft year.

Leo Carlsson sounds better than Danualt i guess, but Frondell had much lesser numbers and played a level lower in his draft year

I see Desnoyers play often here in Moncton, also saw Danault play here and Desnoyers is a much better player.

I like Desnoyers.
He will be taken by the sixth pick, unless a defence needy team likes Jackson Smith.

We should be happy if we end up with either Desnoyers or Frondell, but unless the Bruins fall to 8 we likely aren’t getting them. 8 isn’t even high chance at the moment, if ANA wins 5 of their remaining 14 games, we can only take 6 points for the rest of the year to move from #9 to #8. Hopefully the lottery doesn’t push us back a spot either.

So, based off those tiers we either win the lottery and end up with Misa or Hagens, or we are around 9 or 10 and end up with O'Brien or Bear. No way we're falling below any team below us already; hopefully they don't play above their heads and make it worse than that; and hopefully Sweeney doesn't get smartest guy in the room syndrome again and pick off the board.

We want the Bruins using their highest draft pick aside from Phil Kessel and Seguin in decades on someone who projects to be a middle 6 center of which the Bruins have little issue finding themselves?

They need a top line center to build around.

Seeing the words "safe and secure" reeks of Frederic/Beecher again but higher in the line up.
