Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XX

what's all this Marner nonsense I'm seeing on the socials

You mean this thing of beauty from one of those Facebook bruins groups?

Only problem with Lindholm is his offensive ability to create plays. If he was a 4-5 mill third line center he would be considered a great reliable center. But he is paid like a first line center and has underperformed as that.

He is paid as much as Dimitri Orlov. He didn’t live up to his #2C contract, but if you think a 1C gets 7.75 in free agency you haven’t been paying attention.

What about Boeser, could we use another Canuck?

I don’t think what they need is a guy who can score if someone else does all the work. They need some players that do the work of getting the puck, transporting it, and setting up plays. Brock does none of that. If this was the Bergeron/Krejci Bruins I’m all over it. But they need to find a line driver for the other top 6 line.

Should say he is paid like “our” number 1 center and that is what he was brought in to be.

That's fair insofar as he was brought in to be a top 6 center, and default #1, but I am not sure I believe that Sweeneely's plan was to acquire Elias and call it good- I think they always have known they'd probably need someone else to be the #1 going forward.

I think he thought Lindholm would be a Bergeron for them. I think he also took a risk thinking Coyle and Zacha would either match or exceed their previous stats and solidify a second line. Neither came to fruition. Sweeney no doubt at the beginning of the year thought this team would challenge in the playoffs. I thought they were solidly a playoff team too. Whatever happened it just seems the chemistry wasn’t there from the beginning

Again that's fair and it could be that they really did think Elias was all they needed to have a solid #1/#2 down the middle. I thought they'd be in the playoff mix too and expected Coyle not to suck so bad. Whoops.

Less than 8 million is not first line centre money.
12 million plus is.

Hopefully the future #1 is drafted this summer. Until he’s ready, we have an assortment of players to fill the centre role.
Lindholm, Mittelstadt, Minton, Kastelic will likely be the starting 4 next season.
There are four (4) NHL centers making over $12M per year. Three (3) more make over $10M. That’s it.

Boeser rejecting 5x8$ from VAN is wild until you remember that Vancouver is a shit show. I’m sure he would take that deal from many other teams this summer, I just hope the Bruins aren’t offering him that. He shouldn’t get more than 6 in a Bruins sweater because of the roadblock that would cause to acquire the higher quality talent we need in wing. We don’t need more ex Canucks, and it would be a bummer if he was the “top add” this off season.

All this pining for Marner reminds me of the days people were pining for PK Subban. Except Subban actually produced in the playoffs. Me, I want no part of Mitch Marner near my team. Not for the salary he currently makes, never mind whatever absurd amount he gets as a UFA.

Completely agree. I hate beating a dead drum but I'm going all in on Ehlers this offseaon. Marner is obviously the prize but I just don't see it as a realistic option and we're talking the difference between 14 aav and probably 8-9 aav.

Ehlers checks every single box we are looking for. He is a line driver, one of the fastest players in the league, LH shot, dynamite on the PP.

I know theres a little injury risk with it and also playoff concerns but he's the best option out there IMO. I also don't see any issue with a 7 year deal. It would bring him to 35, which really isn't that old.

Geekie Lindholm Pastrnak
Ehlers Zacha Lysell
Minten Mitts Poitras

Porbably mix in a vet there for leadership and continue the retool. If the young guys start making an impact, things can turn quick.

Bruins have enough 'meh' players leaving you wanting more.

Don't need to add another in Boeser.
