Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XVIII ( if trades occur use specific trade thread)

Marchand is old and high mileage and he's not going to give us a break on a new deal. Whoever signs him July 1 will regret it. Sell.
Alternatively he played with Recchi who signed 1 million contracts with the Bruins, and Krejci/Bergeron/Chara veteran discounts.

Depends. The fans who see him as a bottom 6 forward will be disappointed but he is still a 2nd line quality. 2-3 years is hardly an issue at, theoretically 5 million per.

Ideally as some of us are saying, trade him for the 1st round pick or top prospect and hope he does want to return in the summer. Win-win.

Your not forcing a player out if you cant come to a contract agreement. Its kind of mutual.

Now we have no idea what those demands are one way or the other, but just because Marchand says he doesn't want to leave, doesn't mean shit if he doesn't sign. What are the Bruins going to do give him a blank contract and say ok then fill this out, on what you want and for how long, and we'll get it signed and filed with the league office.

Just because Marchand says he doesn't want to leave. doesn't give him control of the amount and term of his contract, they still need to come to an agreement. Its a leverage tool he may be using to get more term and money, we have no idea, but it very well could be, because I don't see him taking a home town discount, and I feel he was willing to he would already be signed.

The man has said he wants to play for 1 team. He's not an idiot and he knows that if he wants to stick around to get this team back to the playoffs, he's not going to "get paid" with a new deal.

We have no idea what's being said in negotiations. Bruins may want him to do a 1yr deal, Brad may want 3yrs. They could have disagreements on how much is bonus and how much is salary. They could be close but it's just working out the details. Just because they don't have a deal before the TDL doesn't mean they can't still extend him.

What do you gain though? A couple of lottery tickets? Do you feel confident in Sweeney/Neely drafting and developing someone with a pick they get from Marchand? If you're lucky that pick is in the NHL 3-4 after being drafted.

Maybe they flip those picks for something else, but those picks likely are later in a round because Marchand would be going to a contender. You can't quantify the value of having a guy like Marchand in the locker room and one of your leaders. If he wants to be here and help this team get back to what they were, then great.
What do you mean what do you gain ? Who said it has to be picks, it can be prospects or young roster players .Marchand never made no difference this season as a leader far as pts they have & will not be here when they are relevant again. You are talking about him like he is 30 not a player going on 37.

I don't even know what that 1st paragraph means.I think you worded it wrong.

Please not Winnipeg . I don’t want to cheer for them.
That's a place i would absolutely cheer for him. Probably would actually get a Marchand Jets t-shirt just for the novelty lol.

Reminds me of Bourque. Don't want to see him go, but would love to see him succeed somewhere before he hangs it up instead of suffering here. Colorado as well?
Similar situation for sure given Sinden essentially had to convince Bourque that he deserved the chance to win rather than ride the rest of his career out on a lame duck.

If Marchand wants to go, let him go. He's given more than enough to this team/fanbase where he should be allowed the chance at one more rodeo.

Difference here IMO is that this team isn’t that bad right? I could see a world where this team is highly competitive in 2-3 years. That old Bruins team sucked.

Friedman saying the return may have stipulations on it as far as what picks could be coming back as far as games played. etc. i just hope the return is plentiful
