What he do?Donny with smartest guy in the room syndrom again. He didn´t learn from his Beleskey and Backes mistakes.
What he do?
I think we should keep in mind that Sweeney still has to build a roster next year. I love the idea of trading Carlo, Coyle, etc. if it’s a sellers market, but we have no pipeline and this years picks won’t help for a few years, if ever. If the guys we deal are valuable in the market, then they’ll be costly in free agency to replace.
Marchand, Coyle, Carlo, I think even moving two of those would pose a problem for next season. Maybe that’s ok, but I still think he has to worry about it.

Yep, with the crazy prices right now this is 100% sell now, trade assets for young players in offseason.Unless you flip them in deal for young NHL talent
Has Sweeney fallen in love with his players and doesn't want to part with them?Trade literally anyone. What the f*** is Don doing?
I was pining for it but I’m in idiot who went to state college not HarvardSigned a declining Lindholm to a huge contract until the guy is almost 37 years old.
Still another day for moves to be made. Just be patient.....Has Sweeney fallen in love with his players and doesn't want to part with them?
Please, move the deadwood!
No more analysis paralysis.
He's moved 3 guys already in Frederic, Jones and Oesterle. Might not be job done but it sure aint paralyzedHas Sweeney fallen in love with his players and doesn't want to part with them?

Sure, he had plenty of choices in a bubble. But if you're the GM of a team your choices are influenced by fans, stakeholders and most importantly your bosses.
Agree with them or not, him and his bosses likely saw this team in the playoffs this year. How do you sell to your higher up that the best move this year is to do absolutely nothing, when they expect this team to compete for a spot?
They'll stick him on IR and get him back for playoffs....more cap spaceInteresting that teams are still calling on Marchand, knowing he's "week to week"

Elias Lindholm obviously wasn’t a good signing from a value standpoint, but I’d defend Sweeney only in that he didn’t have much choice. He clearly has no other bona fide 1/2 center on the roster or in the pipeline and this guy was available for only money. He’d have gotten killed if he didn’t make a solid offer.
Now as for his performance here so far? He sucks. Clearly underperforming. However, I think he’s likely to get a bit better as he acclimates, and with a rising cap he won’t look terrible because as much as he’s far from a force offensively, he’s useful.
I guess the trick is not to get to the point as an organization where you need to pay above average talent top of the market prices.
Frederic was week to week as well and he went for a pretty good haul, considering status and the year he's having. I would imagine as long as these guys are good for the playoffs, and teams satisfy themselves as to medical status, they're willing to deal.Interesting that teams are still calling on Marchand, knowing he's "week to week"
Can someone explain why Pitlick is on waivers? Does it have to do with the signing?
Sure that helps the acquiring GMs, but as much I’m critical of DS I’m aware that he needs to try to keep his job. He can’t trade every piece we want dealt simply because he’d be looking at the lottery again next season, and I’m not sure his owner is up for that. So I’d be surprised if he’s comfortable moving two of those named guys. But hey, I’m personally fine with it.Because of their term he should be able to get back a very good prospect
These GM’s are in self preservation mode so they can give up future knowing they have the players past this season
I think that's a bit disingenuous BD, because while they did well with what they had last year, I don't think many, you included, looked at that top 6 last year and didn't think that was the main place to improve this roster. I think many would also argue it was one of the leading factors for why we lost to Florida again. If they had a better evaluation of the player, it's an easy sell. You tell your bosses there will be better avenues to improve this team other than committing $55 million of the bosses money on a questionable risky signing on a player who has seen a substantial reduction in production the past couple years.
Why would selling status quo be so upsetting anyways? They were a playoff and contending team the season previous, won a thrilling 7 game series on home ice, gave the Panthers what some said was the most physical series of the playoffs for 6 games. Not losing anyone of significance in the off-season, biggest loss an inconsistent middle-six winger. They weren't some franchise on the fringe desperately trying to finally make the playoffs after years of DNQs.
