Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XVIII ( if trades occur use specific trade thread)

He needs to be in the AHL on Friday to be eligible for the playoffs. They could send him down after the game Thursday but not if he got injured. My assumption is that they decided to send a few guys down now to solidify that roster as it doesn't really matter how we perform in Thursday's game now that the season is a loss.

On the other hand, I'm surprised Poitras hasn't been sent down too if that's their logic.
That could be it.

If there were any truth to this Kyprios rumor of Crosby/Marchand to the Avalanche, the only way I could see the Avs pulling off both is a dreaded scenario where we truly are interested in Middlestadt (previously rumored somewhere) and that its a wash contract wise for Marchand/Mittlestadt. Maybe Pitt takes Drouin (UFA) and retains on Crosby and gets Cal Ritchie and other actual worthwhile stuff. I hate Mittlestadt. weak perimeter player who lacks speed...another 2/3 center type with no urgency and who is invisible for large portions of the game.

I don't disagree that Merkulov didn't do anything to make them say he has to be here... but I do think they are making a mistake sending him down. Lots of players stumble out of the gate. Even the great Brad Marchand didn't register a point for his first 20 games.

To me, Merkulov looked like a guy who, once he settled down, would start producing. He did some good things defensively stealing pucks and backchecking, and he had some chances, those will start to go in if he's given time.

Maybe there's some other reason for the swap? Like someone is interested in Tufte?
As someone else replied, it should hopefully only be to keep him eligible for P Bruins post season (though there is one more Bruins game before Friday so it is kind of interesting).

But I agree with you and hope he is called back up after to get more than 3 game cup of tea while playing with two of the more disappointing players on the roster this year (Coyle/Lindholm).

Much as I hope Poitras gets away from Koepke and Brazeau.

Johnson, Jones, Tufte, Wahlstrom, Brazeau etc all got more than just a few games to show their stuff. Merk has gotten two 3 game stints. Again, playing with two guys who have well underperformed.

Play the kids.

I surely hope so. Where is Tom Johnson when you meet him?

If someone knocked my socks 🧦 off, I would listen 👂.

Otherwise, I would keep the Geek.

Why send out a useful guy who can play up & down your roster, isn't overpriced, and has found chemistry with David?

If they trade him for another player who *may* provide the same value, what's the point?

Zacha, on the other hand..

Zacha is good value as well for what he brings. Not untouchable, but far down the list of guys I'd consider moving out.

And the fact he's tight with Pasta matters. It's not the hill to die on but it's a factor. Especially if we see some long-standing Bruins leave like Marchand, Coyle, Frederic, maybe Carlo.

  • The other big piece of news was the Edmonton Oilers acquiring Trent Fredericand Max Jones in exchange for picks and prospects in a three-team trade for the purposes of salary retention. We’ve heard the Avs were in this one until the very end and that Colorado loved Frederic. The intrigue here is that the deal the Avs were working through was larger than just Frederic and could have included top Avalanche prospect Cal Ritchie and defenseman Sam Malinski. That obviously would have been for far more than Frederic as the target is believed to have been Colorado native Brandon Carlo.
Coulda been nice.

Donnie likes to makes his own picks, he doesn't want your close to or NHL ready guys those are easy to find. He wants the pick to make the reach and find the steal of the draft to prove he's the smartest guy in the room :sarcasm:

If Ritchie was involved I would think Marchand was too.

Lysell and Letourneau were chalk picks. Lohrei and Poitras were the “reach” picks.

How are Brunet and Johansen doing from where he got them?

Why NHL Legend Mark Recchi Believes Bruins Are Built For Playoffs

I love Recchi, but I'll have whatever he's smoking.

VRANA on waivers is somebody we should grab - Guy still has blazing speed and a wicked shot on pace for 22 goals but nowhere to play in WAS lineup. If it doesn’t work out, waive him.

Plus he’s cheap contract right now
Hes a Czech LW that can shoot and skate, do it and see how he fits with Zacha and Pasta. Just be ready for not much defense from him.

It's so damn frustrating. I don't care if Merk and Lysell are overrated or are likely to bust, give them 20 f***ing games already and figure out where they are at. Please just play these guys over Brown, Tufte, Wahlstrom, Viel and give us something to be interested in the rest of the season.

John Beecher has missed, what?

Two games?

That’s the biggest kick in the teeth.

He’s done nothing.
