Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XVII

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
I am hoping we hear nothing from Boston this week until late Friday.
I want bidding wars from teams on our players. Best way to get maximum value.

Coyle is beyond cooked and Sweeney and Neely are beyond clueless.
I think they are shell shocked and have no clue what to do because for the better part of a decade they probably thought they were the masterminds of the league and everything caught up to them at once and they know they've put the team in a really bad spot when you look at everything from above.

I think the combination of Peeke's sort of emergence and Carlo's poor play has led many to feel this team can move on from Carlo.

He's still young and still at a pretty great cap hit for what he USUALLY brings (unless you think the poor play for most of this season is more of the reality of this player now).

That said, I move him if the price is right/something you cant refuse. But this team also needs more RHD depth even if he isn't moved. And is a need much higher on the list if he is moved.

Personally I would consider moving Coyle well before I considered moving Geekie.
I’d move both in a heartbeat for different reasons.

Coyle which at one point in his career I thought he was paid accordingly but lately and maybe some has to do with playing RW instead of say third line C. But it’s time to move on. I’m starting to feel he’s just to comfortable and we can’t have guys in the top 6 going through the motions.

Geekie has came on the last half of the season and I do believe Pasta deserves a lot of the credit for this. Geekie is in the same position of Zacha IMHO sell high I don’t think there terrible players but they’re best positioned on a second or third line on good offensive teams so why not get value for them if other teams want to overpay for either one or both.

I like Carlo, but I'm fine if he's moved for the right price. It sucks that it took the Bruins 60 games to play competent defense this season.
If he’s moved, who will take his place in the lineup? Not arguing against it but understand it’s hard to find aRD his size with perhaps a little more snarl.

Geekie is riding a completely unsustainable S% while playing with a top 5 offensive player on the planet to a 25+ goal season, and he's a pending RFA. This is almost certainly the highest his value will ever be in his career and the bruins are bad enough where you can justify selling him off, it's a perfect storm.

Can't wait for the 4x4mil extension announcement

Going to be a long week of refreshing HF and I fully expect to be disappointed in the end.

Why would another team value him much if his shooting is unsustainable and he only produces next to a top 5 offensive player on the planet?

I think he might have more value to Boston where we know he can be a good complimentary wing to Pastrnak. But it always depends on what's being offered.

Fwiw, @DominicT is convinced the Bruins would be much better off to hold onto Coyle and Carlo, and deal them in the off-season. He believes there will be a lot more suitors in the summer (when everyone has cap space) than at the deadline.
Might could be, then again both have value to playoff teams in this years push that would be lost by the off season. Might be a smaller market but the players would bring more value to the acquiring team.

Why do we have to replace him like for like? Why not sign Pionk or Fabbro instead? Get more of two-way guy in that spot.

If you are determined to replace him with a big, defense-only D, then Kovacevic in NJ is probably your best option. He's a UFA and they have two young, two-way RD who need to play over him. Kaden Korczak in Vegas is a trade option as well.

I think I read the flames have some rd that could come back that may offer a different skill set

Yeah, I'm not sure I totally agree, just passing along the thoughts of a guy who's usually right.

Personally, I think there's a fever that grips GM's at the deadline where they get desperate to improve their club and are willing to overpay. Also, in the off-season you have UFA's so while there are definitely more buyers, there is also an increase in supply. Maybe that doesn't apply to Carlo, who's kind of rare as a right handed D, but Coyle isn't all that rare.
