There was a time when there was talk about him being and recently also, and I was all in a younger 100-point player, all signed, that interested me greatly, but now I read that he can be a bit lazy, which brings in the JT Miller, rants, and at time's disinterested, so no I must admit I am a little hesitant, should I be ?
I am hesitant but for the Canucks, not the team acquiring him and letting him focus on 2025-2026. If they keep him, I think this remains the situation but if they move him, they get to see him flourish in a new city after getting a poor return for him.
Maybe you move him for Rantanen as is and Canucks try and sign him instead while the Hurricanes get Pettersson lined up for the next 7 years?
Pettersson seems to hate it here. Doesn't interact with the coaches or even the Sedin's, who are loved here.
This could be the Bruins Bennett, Monahan, Dubois, etc. Problem is, I don't think the Bruins have much of anything that anyone likes for sale.
For all the heat the Canucks management has gotten, I really respect how they turn assets into pieces they need.
When they move a guy, they almost immediately flip those assets to a team that wants the pieces they acquired for what the Canucks actually need. Look at the Miller trade, the Horvat trade, etc. They move the player out for picks, then move the picks for what they wanted from another team, and then sign that player (Hronek, Pettersson, O'Connor).
The Bruins don't have what the Canucks necessarily want BUT if they can move Coyle, Frederic, Carlo, Geekie and others for picks/prospects that the Canucks DO want then I could see a trade.
Carlo for a 1st? Sure.
Frederic for a 2nd and prospect? Sure.
Coyle for a 3rd? Sure.
Geekie for a 2nd? Sure.
A 1st, two 2nd's and a third for Pettersson?
I always like when a GM has a trade in place and already has the assets put to where the team needs it most and the Canucks have been doing that for a couple years now.
