In response to politics/off ice being kept out of the HoF consideration:
Hall of Fame should be left for exceptional players. What they do/sayoff the ice contributes to the spectacle of being exceptional and celebrated forever.
Hull was a dirt bag wife beater that liked Hitler. What does that say about us, the sport, and to future generations if we ignore his off ice life simply because he put the puck in the net? Not saying Keith did that, but if we are on the topic, the HoF should be left for the talented and honorable, not just the talented, so we have worthy legends to look back at.

You are not wrong, in saying that about Hull, but the problem is how many others are out there doing similar or worse but does not get talked about because they are protected, but I do think we are getting into another topic, and I was just talking hockey.

The writing is on the wall to sell some pieces off. I’ve been going back and forth on it but I think you make Marchand available. I don’t want to trade him but sometimes hard decisions need to be made.
Look at Tampa moving on from Stamkos and even trading Sergachev. I thought that was going to hurt them but they got Guentzel who was one of the best players on the American team…controversial move but it paid off.

I don’t think anyone thought that was a smart trade at the time specially when he was trending down after his only good season. Now with that being said Trent isn’t preforming like last year but you’d have to admit his line mates aren’t full of talent either but even still he’s been more consistent than Jeannot and can play centre along with a decent enough PKer the only thing going for Jeannot is he’s a better scrapper.
So yes I think it’s possible with the right team he could fetch along the 25th mark floating into the 2nd round mark but highly doubtful it’s a 3rd or anything less unless it’s a real good prospect coming in return.

As much as we all “think” we have a handle on what a given player is worth, the truth is that we won’t know until the first couple of trades go down.
All we need is for one team to overpay for a guy and then the pressure is on their rivals to step up or stand pat.
Also, remember, it’s human nature to overrate the positives or expect that a player will be at his optimum level once they’re on your team.
Meaning, a lot of GM’s will look at a guy like Coyle and focus on his defensive play, PK ability and puck control capabilities and envision him in a certain role on their team, without focusing on the possibility he may not produce enough offense to justify what they trade for him.
Maybe today he’s worth a 2 and a prospect. But say Carolina, TB or Toronto bolster their top 9, maybe NJ who has a pretty young team suddenly decides to offer a 1 and prospect.
I’ve said it before and will again…..every single year teams make deals that most people think are overpayment.
It will happen this year too. The trick is being willing and able to be the team that benefits from it.

Joking aside I probably trade him too, with the hope he comes back after a playoff run with another team.

His size and skating become an issue against this level of talent that isn’t an issue against run of the mill NHL teams. Jack Hughes size was an issue as well. These guys that are elite in some areas and lacking in others can suddenly look like AHL all stars like Merkulov or Seth Griffith.

I think you are proving the point. Hull was a repulsive human being, he is in the HOF. By all accounts, Rick Middleton is a pretty stand up guy and does great things for hockey and the region, and he's not in the HOF because he dared to sue the NHL over their shady dealings with Alan Eagleson, another POS human being.

Tufte was an emergency call-up. He's not going to play tomorrow since he was just a placeholder for Marchand at practice, but I assume he will be sent back down to Providence.
