Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XV

You have people complaining in this thread that they take too many low ceiling safe bets. And you have people complaining when they take a swing at a guy that if he hits, he can hit big. Tough job.
Soon as I read this Zach Synyshyn jumped in my mind 😳

Thank you for the encouraging report.

Letourneau may not become a scoring machine, but like most centers, he'll post his share of assists.

"A big strong two-way 3rd line center"?

I would be well satisfied with that.
Joel Otto type player even be nice

So they should have gone with a nice safe low ceiling high floor player like Beecher or Frederick?

Honestly now is the time they need to gamble most in my book. DL may or may not work out, but I was thrilled to see them swing for the fences.

I wouldn't compare one of those prospects to Frederic or Beecher, and if you need to hit on a forward prospect very soon I don't see how you can take a gamble on one that is at least 4-5 years away from helping the current team. Still I want to Letourneau to succeed but the bustometer is already swinging in the wrong direction.

Nor sure how you can come to that conclusion 20 games in

Not difficult, two had already played in their mens league before they were drafted and did very well, the other was already known as an offensive dynamo who is really killing it this season and the last one is a scorer and a captain in his junior league with great size and this already since the age of 16.

Again, I absolutely route for Dean to succeed and I see that the Bruins were/are impressed by his skating ability at his size but he mostly put up points because he played in this lower league and was just too big for those other kids. Still I am looking forward what he capable to do in the next season.

Please relay to "Former Bruin" thread.

I believe there's one.

Given circumstances, which may not have been true, at all, Tyler Seguin was traded for Erickson and, essentially, a bag of pucks.

Again, apparent "circumstances" at the time, I believed Erickson would prove a typical NHL Swede: quietly effective in all three zones, defensively responsible, a capable playmaker & assist Hoover.

For whatever reason, not least several concussions out of the Boston gate, that didn't happen.

A major,. major bust on every level.

My understanding is that assistants weighed in, and that Cam & Don were in the room.

I'm guessing Peter Chiarelli made the call & had the final say.

If so, a bad decision all the way round.

Ultimately, a terrible, terrible trade.

Recalling the yet more inexplicable, fantastically awful Thornton give away.

(Which, if one believes reports at the time, half the league never knew about nor had a chance to investigate.

(Mike O'Connell.

("It's Called Ruins.")

In the event, stain and wash.

Presto, Nothing Burger.

See ya, Louie.

Hardly knew ya.

Remind me not to fall in love with Swedish army knives,

I‘m not crying about this kid now - he’s 6’7 and I’ve watched him play live and he’s a really good skater and made nice passes and played physical

Other people who watched him agreed

fans just like to complain about today, worry about the future, and have regrets about the past

If he ends up a player we won’t here a peep if he’s a bust we will hear about it everyday

It’s called Bruins fans

When the deal was made, I thought Marchand - Bergeron - Eriksson would end up the shut-down line to rule all shut-down lines, but alas, it was not to be.

And if that happens they probably win 1-2 more cups in the time Eriksson was here. And if that happens it would have been a successful deal even with Seguin becoming what he is. I don't really compare it at all to the Thornton deal, as it was a defensible move attempting to maximize their prime window.

I think it was a similar problem to what they have now. Too many "samey" players. If everyone on the line is your defensive consciousness, how you gonna score? And if you can't score, sure seems like your opponent can play like they are defending 3rd and long all the time.

After watching Freddy dump his pants in his UFA year, I might sell high on Geekie if you can get a decent haul. I really do like him, but he is playing with Pasta.
Not sure you could get even value for Geekie, I mean he's an NHLer who's benefiting greatly from playing with Pasta, and on most teams he's a 3rd liner. Just dont feel the return would be nearly as good as Geekie production moving forward.

Even if he makes it here, people will still complain because he isn't a fighter, doesn't win 75 percent of faceoffs, doesn't lead the team in hits, or doesn't score 50 a year

Two early concussions was it?

Even still, they tried it before he got concussed and it didn't gel. My expectation were high for that line.

Reilly Smith as well. Guy has won a cup and is still in the league here a decade later.

I’m so confused on Geekie. Yes. He is playing with Pasta. Also, he can produce with Pasta. Probably comes down to his salary asks. If he is trying to pretend he can score 15 goals in 30 games without Pasta it’s a different story than 20 goal scorer RFA. And, of course, what the market is out there. Probably in a listen but not shop kind of mode.

Sounds like Marchand really wants to stay, but it’s been reported by Kyperos and Friedman that term seems to be an issue. He says he hopes Sweeney believes in this group, but Don also has to do what’s best for the Bruins as a whole. He can believe in this group, but he needs to have one eye open and accept the reality that this team even with an addition may not be good enough to make the playoffs.

I think it would be blind negligence on Sweeney part if he doesn’t have Marchand signed before March 8 and he’s still a Bruin.

Really makes zero sense unless DS knows there's not much of a market for him. And before all the babies chirp me I mean in term of the return.

Geekie had the same production last season wo Pasta. In my opinion he should be scoring at a better clip. He's missed a shit ton of scoring chances due to his lack of skill.

He should be moved at the deadline, these are the type of players you cash in on when you can.

I know that was essentially an all star game but man watching that game last night really shows how much talent we lack on offense ha. Sure we have marchand and pasta, but after that for offensive skill it is a massssssssive gap. Good 200 foot players, but honestly to many of them.
