Saw an interesting rumor on Youtube today, credited to Rangers Digest.

Trent Frederic for Brennan Othmann and Chris Kreider

Is Othmann the one who headshot Wotherspoon in preseason and lately threw a tantrum in the media over having to fight for it?

Regardless that type of value is not terrible for Frederic but I think they can do better in a different way.

Kreider was a need 4 years ago.

How serious was the “headshot” to Witherspoon? Was it deliberate and resulted in a major penalty, or a questionable hit from which he recovered?

Kreider is a local boy and a Bs killer. He’d give us the second scorer behind Pasternak we need.

This team is falling into irrelevance in the Boston market.

The Celtics are the new winter darlings in Boston after their National Championship.

The Patriots fans are excited about their new coach and high draft pick.

The Red Sox just spent $120,000,000. For a slugger.

Our team is at the bottom of the feeding trough for Boston fans.

Othman would be robbery for the mighty TF.

Can skate, physical, one of the better forecheckers in his draft class and one of the best shots in his draft class. Shoot first mentality but very good playmaker. In fact, he was selected by OHL coaches having one of the best shots in consecutive years (1st and 3rd best shot).

I find it hard to believe the Rangers would give him up for Trent Frederic, let alone add Kreider. But I suppose if you want someone to take Kreider's contract, you have to pay.

However, if I'm the Rangers, I'm not giving Othmann straight up for Frederic.
Krieder's age and salary are concerns, but is still a useful player, add Othman in and I make that deal. Frederic could be a decent player for the Rangers as well and they shed salary.

I know that was essentially an all star game but man watching that game last night really shows how much talent we lack on offense ha. Sure we have marchand and pasta, but after that for offensive skill it is a massssssssive gap. Good 200 foot players, but honestly to many of them.

It’s a team built to win 1-0 in a league where teams are going to hem you in if you can’t answer.

Anyone who cheers for the Bruins should want to to make that trade.

It's a hands down, landslide win for Boston even without Kreider, which is why I have major doubts.

If this kid is a player and I have read just positives so far on him, Kreider has had a tough year for him, now if he is banged up like is being reported, he has 75 goals prior to this year the last two years, to me he is worth a shot, unless he needs all kinds of surgery, I make this deal. I have to admit I am disappointed that Freddy has not worked out, much like DeBrusk, I have always liked both but even I must admit there is a point you must move on. This is a deal Sweeney must make, but I have my doubts about the authenticity of such a deal.

it's not a real rumor anyway, one of the NY writers for the Athletic was just spitballing trade ideas in an article and then some small clickbaity youtube account latched onto it and "reported" it as a rumor

I find it funny when Kreider was first rumored to be available earlier in the year many of us were wondering if we even had enough assets to pry him out of there.

Now the Rangers are trying to attach pieces to unload him. Doesn’t really add up.

I wouldn’t be opposed to Kreider, but even with Frederic going the other way does it even work financially? I’m not the most keen when it comes to deadline space.

Rather have a first rounder for freddy in any draft going forward. The Rangers blow and this kid cant get in the line up

Don't know what happened.
Everything changed when Eriksson got concussed by John Scott & a month later by Brooks Orpik both with dirty cheap shots

He was never the same guy he was before

I’m open-minded and willing to flip with logical evidence but nothing can be said

I’ve mentioned to my daughter who wax with me at the Orpik one - right infront of us

John Scott probably cost the Bruins the cup

I freakin hate him - and Orpik as well (buddies who know him tell me he’s a fantastic guy) but he will always suck in my world

Orpik was a spot picking head hunter

Scott was trash player

Yup / I was on it but I’m willing to move off my position with more information and I have

Healthy he’s still a player but how long term is his issue - sounds could be a recurring problem

He's been hurt all year, Othmann goes into the Bruins top 9 immediately when healthy and has a good 10 year career. This deal is theft and I don't want Frederic moved but I drive him to NY if there is any truth to this rumor.

BRENNAN OTHMANN LW
AGE: 21 H/W: 6-0/175
YR TEAM GP G A PTS PIM PPG
22-23 Fln-Pbo (OHL) 56 29 38 67 79 1.20
23-24 Hartford (AHL) 67 21 28 49 65 0.73
23-24 NY Rangers (NHL) 3 0 0 0 0 0.00
The Rangers have to be very happy with how Othmann’s first pro
season went. He was one of Hartford’s leading scorers and best players
right from puck drop last year and, as such, earned a cup of coffee
with the Rangers, too. Not only did he score, but his physical approach
and strong work away from the puck also transitioned seamlessly.
Based on his versatile skill set, it would appear a virtual lock that
Othmann becomes an NHL player in some capacity. Facing a bit of a
cap crunch, one has to wonder if New York is looking at Othmann as a
potential bottom six forward this season. He certainly looks ready and
capable. From an upside perspective, the range of outcomes is wide.
Othmann could settle into more of a complementary middle six role
or he could end up becoming a high end top six forward and point
producer. If he’s back in the AHL, look for him to inch closer to the
point per game mark.

It’s true that there’s no mystery GM walking through that door to replace Sweeney.

But it’s been 10 years. This misfires, and there are many, are now really hurting this team. We should have 2-3 more guys at least on this roster that we developed, or one guy we sold those guys for that became a long term top 6 center.

So, if you don’t have the threat of firing Sweeney, what is the system of accountability ? What pressure does he have to do better?

That’s the problem.

And if that happens they probably win 1-2 more cups in the time Eriksson was here. And if that happens it would have been a successful deal even with Seguin becoming what he is. I don't really compare it at all to the Thornton deal, as it was a defensible move attempting to maximize their prime window.

Absent what some here (including me) believed was "the real reason" Seguin was dealt, the trade was a major bust.

Yes, he was a young, good looking, rich, talented, immature Stanley Cup champion.

There were questions about on-ice "focus" and off-ice maturity. But in 2013, Seguin had been with the Bruins for three seasons. He was just 21.

*Strictly in terms of his play,* why did they deal him? And why did they deal him for Eriksson in particular?

At the time, Tyler Seguin had contributed, tangibly, to the Bruins 2011 Cup run. He was the second overall draft selection in 2010. His "ceiling" was largely unknown.

Per Wiki,

Seguin was included in the Boston lineup on the third line with Rich Peverley and Michael Ryder to start the third round, against the Tampa Bay Lightning after centreman Patrice Bergeron sustained a mild concussion in the fourth game of the previous round. In the first game of the series on May 14, 2011, Seguin scored a goal on Lightning' goaltender Dwayne Roloson and added an assist on a Johnny Boychuk goal in his first game of the series, his first career playoff game as the Bruins would go on to be defeated by the Lightning 5–2, then followed that up with two goals and two assists (both assists came on goals by Michael Ryder in a 6–5 win the following game. He became the first teenager to score four points in a Stanley Cup playoff game since Trevor Linden did so for the Vancouver Canucks in 1989. The Bruins would eventually go on to defeat the Lightning in seven games to clinch their first appearance in the Finals since 1990. On June 15, 2011, Boston game seven of the Finals, earning the Stanley Cup with a 4–3 series victory over the Presidents' Trophy-winning Vancouver Canucks. Seguin ended his first playoff run with three goals and four assists for seven points in 13 games.
On April 22, 2012, Seguin scored in overtime of Game 6 of the first round in the 2012 playoffs series against the seventh-seeded Washington Capitals that sent the series to a Game 7. However, despite another goal from Seguin in Game 7, the Bruins would go on to lose the game in overtime and were thus eliminated from the playoffs with Capitals' forward Joel Ward scoring the winning goal. He finished his breakout 2011–12 season as the Bruins' leading scorer with 67 points (29 goals, 38 assists) in 81 games along with two goals and one assist for three points in all seven playoff games.
After the lockout ended, the 2012–13 NHL season began, with 48 intra-conference games played beginning on January 19, 2013. Seguin played all 48 regular-season games with the Bruins, scoring 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points while playing the bulk of the season on the first line with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. His performance began to waver during the 2013 playoffs, however, scoring only one goal and three assists in his first 12 postseason games, and he was moved from the second to the third line with Rich Peverley and Chris Kelly, with Jaromír Jágr taking his place on the first and/or second. The Bruins advanced to the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals, but ultimately fell to the Presidents' Trophy-winning Chicago Blackhawks in six games.

On July 4, 2013, just 10 days after the Bruins game six loss in the Stanley Cup Finals, Seguin was part of a massive seven-player trade that sent him, Peverley, and defenceman Ryan Button to the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Loui Eriksson and prospects Joe Morrow, Reilly Smith, and Matt Fraser.

Prior to the trade, rumors had begun to circulate that the Bruins were displeased with Seguin's supposed hard-partying lifestyle, particularly when his on-ice performance began to suffer during the playoffs.

General manager Peter Chiarelli spoke in a press conference on July 4 to assert that, although the trade was "not a strict on-ice decision", but that concerns of Seguin's behavior were more related to "focus, just about little things, about preparing to play, it was nothing about extracurricular activities."

Damn alarm clock! Damn MST!

BTW, I was all for the deal at the time,

file:///C:/Users/mgman/OneDrive/Desktop/Abyssinia,%20Henry/l'%C3%A9criture%20portefeuille%20Mark%20Gerard%20Mantho/The%20Seguin%20Deal.pdf

The 2013–14 season saw Seguin become fast friends with captain Jamie Benn both on and off the ice.

On November 14, 2013, Seguin had his first career four-point game, scoring two goals and two assists in a 7–3 rout of the Calgary Flames On November 29, Seguin sufferd what appeared to be a concussion in a 2–1 SO loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, causing him to miss the next two games. At the conclusion of the season which saw him end with 37 goals, 47 assists and 84 points, leading his team in all three categories and playing in 80 games, Seguin came in sixth overall in voting for the Hart Memorial Trophy, given to the "player judged most valuable to his team.

He was also nominated for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, given for leadership and humanitarianism; the award ultimately went to Edmonton Oilers defenceman and ex-Bruins teammate Andrew Ference. Seguin's production helped the Stars narrowly qualify for the 2014 playoffs as the eighth and final seed in the Western Conference, marking the first time since 2008 where the Stars as a team qualified for a playoff spot. Seguin and the Stars would eventually lose in the first round of the playoffs in six games by the top-seeded Anaheim Ducks.

Tyler Seguin did not become a legend, but has been a six time NHL All Star, combined with Jamie Benn to create one of the league's better offensive duos, and has been a good to very good player for the Stars over a lengthy career.

Loui Eriksson, not so much. The last I heard of him, he was complaining about lack of ice time in Vancouver,

Dallas Stars (2006–2013)

Eriksson with the Dallas Stars in November 2011

In the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the Dallas Stars drafted Eriksson in the second round with the 33rd overall pick. After playing in his second season with Frölunda, Eriksson moved to North America and appeared in two pre-season games for Dallas in 2005. His professional debut in North America came on 6 October 2005, with the Stars' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Iowa Stars, in a game where Eriksson posted his first assist and point of the season

Eriksson's first NHL goal came in his debut, 4 October 2006, against the Colorado Avalanche.

Two years later, he had a break-out season in 2008–09, where he led the Stars with 36 goals, placing him fifth in the West and 12th overall in goal-scoring. He was one of only three Stars to play in all 82 games of the season.

Prior to the following season, on 2 October 2009, he was recognized as a significant offensive force of the Stars attack by re-signing to a six-year contract extension worth $25.5 million.

Eriksson participated in his first NHL All-Star Game in 2011. assists as well as the eventual game-winning empty-net goal to lead all players with four points (matched only by Shea Weber with four assists).

Eriksson with the Boston Bruins in March 2014
On 4 July 2013, Eriksson, along with prospects Joseph Morrow, Reilly Smith and Matt Fraser, was traded by the Stars to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley and Ryan Button.

In an injury-marred first season in Boston, after two concussions on separate hits from John Scott of the Buffalo Sabres and Brooks Orpik of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Eriksson would finish the 2013–14 season with 10 goals and 27 assists for 37 points in 61 games, finding chemistry with centre and fellow Swede Carl Söderberg.

During the 2015–16 season, on 13 February 2016, Eriksson scored his 200th NHL goal, as the third Bruins goal going towards a 4–2 road win against the Minnesota Wild.

On 1 July 2016, Eriksson signed a six-year, $36 million deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

Eriksson previously had success with Henrik and Daniel Sedin in international tournaments. He made his Canucks debut on 15 October 2016, against the Calgary Flames where he scored an own goal. With the Vancouver net empty due to a delayed penalty by the Flames and facing pressure from attacking players, Eriksson attempted to dump the puck into his own zone, however, a miscalculation in the heat of the moment lead to the puck entering the Canuck's net. Nevertheless, Vancouver would win 2–1 in the shootout, with Eriksson earning an assist on the game-tying goal by Daniel Sedin.

On 5 March 2017 Eriksson suffered a season-ending knee injury after a collision with Anaheim Ducks forward Chris Wagner.
(Ed. Note: !)

Eriksson ended a disappointing first season with the Canucks with 11 goals and 13 assists in 65 games.

Eriksson would have another dismal and injury plagued season with the Canucks in 2017-18 finishing with 23 points in 50 games.

During the 2018-19 NHL season, Eriksson was able to stay healthy, but only scored 29 points in 81 games.

On 10 February 2021, Eriksson was placed on waivers.

On 23 July 2021, Eriksson was traded, along with Jay Beagle, Antoine Roussel, a 2021 first-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick and a 2023 seventh-round pick, to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland.

On 6 December 2021, Eriksson played his 1000th NHL game in a 4-1 loss over his former team, the Dallas Stars.

Eriksson and the Pittsburgh Penguins attempted to reach a deal in late August 2023, however it eventually fell through. After going unsigned through by any other NHL team, Eriksson re-signed with Frölunda on 10 November 2022, marking his return to the SHL after 17 years in North America.

On February 10, 2025, Eriksson announced his retirement from professional hockey after 22 years, via a statement on Instagram.

The 5 forwards taken after Dean are all around a point a game (Greentree is much more at 1.7). They all are playing either in the OHL or the Q. Dean has 2 assists in 29 games for an NCAA team.
I know, it's too early. Just thought it was interesting.
The ncaa is a way harder league to play in to be fair. Comparing apples to carrots.
