Well either way is fine by me far as Marchand goes .He is a Bruins legend when it's all said & done.

It really should be interesting, and with the cap rising, Marchand who's been grossly under paid from the Bruins, may want a nice pay day, and there's more than likely a team or two out-there who'll give him one and a multi-year deal.

Legend or not Sweeney needs to have him signed imo or move him out. When he retires hell give him a parade and a Jersey retirement ceremony, name a street after him, but for now Sweeney cant let him walk away without a return.

Let me answer that for you then.
No way Sweeney moves Marchand. It would be him waving the white flag on a team he went all in on during the off season with his FA signings. He'll make a small add and convince himself that Lindholm is their big add at the deadline. Sweeney giving up on a season while being this close to playoff revenue is not in his DNA.

Filling gaping holes is hardly “going all in”.

Sure but when you pay them the money he did, its not to likely he's throwing in the towel after spending to the cap with his off season moves, so essentially it was all in for him, the right moves is totally a different conversation.

Marchand surprised me. Early in his Bruins career I would have been pleased if they got rid of him. I thought his immature, stupid antics were a detriment. Easily the most frustrating Bruins player for me.

Marchand was very fortunate that he got to play with and be mentored by Bergeron. To his credit Marchand took the coaching and began to mature into the player we see today.

I watched him in Providence. What an entertaining player. He was fun too watch. I knew he would Mackenzie in the pros. Didn’t expect his first 20 games to be scoreless but nonetheless lit worked out.

With the exception of Kastelic, our forward group has been remarkably healthy this season…….and we’re still 25th in the league in goals per game. God help us if Pasta ever got injured and needed to miss a few games.

#88 was pretty clearly playing thru injury the first 30 games. His goals pace was running about a 27 goal season. Marchand took probably 10-12 games to work through those his surgeries, so injuries have impacted the forward group, just not with actual games missed. Having said that they were healthy in their top 6F last year also.

Now that I think of it you are correct. he got the contract when he was a much better defensive Dman. my bad about that.

I will argue that he is a 3rd pair. He has no offensive capabilities. Takes forever to shoot the puck, most often misses the net or hits the goalie in the logo. He's easy to knock off the puck. Horrible against the boards. Very soft in front of his net. Slow. Gets burned wide, all the time. In fact the only good thing about him is his reach. When lindholm is healthy, he easily fits 3rd pair if not farther down.

If he's 3rd pair then you have a really deep and good d corps. He has shown in the past to be a good 2nd pair guy for us, outside of this season.

Lohrei is your only puck moving dman. Hampus is decent carrying up ice but Lohrei is their best option. He’s also helped improve the 1st unit PP. I’m not opposed to moving Lohrei but would prefer in a larger package for a bigger fish than Zegras.

I’m not sure Zegras is any better than Poitras. Poitras here in Boston being forced to play two way hockey. If he were on a bottom dweller and allowed to freewheel offensively with zero regard for his defensive zone it’s safe to say he’d put up a pretty stat line.

Poitras doesn't exactly play two way hockey. He couldn't maintain a place in the line up on a team that doesn't exactly strike fear into opposing forwards worried about scoring goals.

I doubt most people would agree with you on Zegras not being any better than Poitras.

I think Poitras works very hard on the D side of the game. He will only get better with size

The effort is there. Far more than Zegras. The Bruins system would be a culture shock to Zegras. Their stats aren’t that far off one another this season despite Zegras ignoring his d zone, being 3 years older than Poitras & averaging 4 mins more per game.

I wouldn’t trade Poitras for Zegras one for one

That's interesting. Along with the obvious talent issue I see lack of grit as a big problem. On both sides. I see Marchy as the only top 9 F with serious jam and I don't think you can can rely on the 4th line to provide it. I mean I wish 11 was truly intense and hard to play against but he just isn't. Defensively it's an extremely ungritty group. I just don't see it, and bringing TZ in can only exacerbate the issue. We need some hard cases in our group, some aggression and nasty. And I don't mean fighters

I think grit is the wrong word, because I think they're plenty gritty and work hard.

1. Speed
2. Talent
3. Mental toughness

IMO those are the three glaring issues with the forward crew that has plagued them this season. Not enough speed to get open for transition. Not enough speed to get around defender's sticks to shoot the puck without getting blocked. Not enough skill to overcome the lack of speed to create their own openings. And last but certainly not least, their lack of focus and staying clocked in during important game situations ( after a goal is scored, last minute of the period, special teams ) kills so much of the team's confidence and momentum.

Clearly Carlo is a top 4 guy in any team...but yes he struggle this year like the entire team

I would take Schneider, Whitecloud, Pesce and one of Letang\Karlsson based on being a Right shot D based strictly on ability\impact.

Other than one year with Gaudreau and Thachuk, he is just a 40point player, so we should only judge him on one playoff that everyone is excited about, not for 8 mil and 30 years old on top of it .............awful signing!

That's just not true.

Outside of his 82 point season with Gaudreau and Tkachuk, he's had seasons of 65 points, 78 points, 54 points (and 29 goals) in 70 games, 47 points in 56 games, and 64 points.

In the 3 seasons leading up to (but not including) his 82 point season with JG and MT, he averaged 30 goals and 71 points per 82. In the season right after JG and MT he put up 64 points.

Go over to the main board and suggest a trade Poitras for Zegras. Doubt you get
more than 30% of people agree with you. Zegras has broken 60 points twice. Poitras is in his D+3 season in which Zegras hit 60 points.

No, it doesn't. It's just about playing hockey well. So, so many Cup teams won while enduring internal strife, much it of it well-publicized after the fact

The Bruins have been drafting for character over skill, on consideration, for probably even longer than I am fully aware of; in the 20 years I've actually been watching, they've killed themselves doing it

I'll gamble on a TZ for MP trade no doubt. He is 21 on 3\10 by the way, so D+3 is the relevant factor.

Yea well I cannot see Bruins moving Matty P .He has skills ,can skate ,is smart and cheap.Yea he has some warts like strength but I want to see more of him personally.
