I just read the Globe Sunday Hockey Notes and Chara discussing Marchand

Zeroooo point zeroooo he’s recommending trading him

Not sure I love my pets that much
I feel like he will be moved if they are out of it, Its a no brainer.

Culture means way more than people think. He was born to be a Bruin. You keep him.
You give him the option. If he wants another run at a Cup then you package him to a contender .If he is happy with 2011 and wants to stay, well then you keep him around.I agree with the reasonings of the fans who say they should trade him to speed up the rebuild , retool or whatever you call it.That is smart buisness far as icing good teams goes. However,I feel Brad is a Bruins legend and earned the right to finish out here if he chooses .It's a unique situation.

@DominicT what are your thoughts on Cal Ritchie? What's his upside and how soon is he playing in the NHL?

I figure you know him well so I went on your websites and looked up an article on OHL Writers, but it was from 3 years ago.
I think he's put it the work where necessary for the most part.

His hockey IQ is at a very high level, as is his playmaking. He has an NHL shot and my beef with him was that he didn't use it enough in his draft year, and I still believe that. He's averaging .2 shots per game more than his draft year. He's also put in the necessary work to increase his top speed.

I see him as a playmaking center. That's going to be his bread and butter in the NHL. I think he tops out as a middle tier second line center.

Chara not going to come aboard and say you need to trade Marchand or anyone else for that matter. They’re still working on his position /role in the Organization, and when hired Sweeney comments were.
“we believe he can make a positive impact on the organization as a mentor to our players and advisor to our coaching staff." So the last thing he’s going to do is come in and say, “hey Brad I’m going to recommend they trade you”.

He gets a lot of money to "mature". big pass from me.
5.75 mil isn’t that much. He is looking a lot better than pettersson at half the price. I’d be happy to add him. This team has plenty of grit. What it needs is skill. Zegras has a boatload of skill. He has a very high ceiling. And I’m not a huge fan of his. But if the bruins can add him and the price isn’t crazy I don’t see how they don’t pull the trigger.

Be nice to watch Brad on Vegas in June grab a bunch of picks and have him resign here.

It would be great if Brad day with the Cup he brought it to Fanuel Hall to share with us.

lets all meet up infront of the Bell in Hand

Where do Elias Lindholm and Matt Poitras slot on this team medium to long term?

#2 and #3 centers?

Can you live with Lindholm as your 3?

Can Poitras become your 2? Can you somehow acquire C1?

Someone once said said to compare him to Lowry. Is that a fair assessment?

It seems to me that a lot of what's being said about Zegras was also being said about Reinhart, O'Reilly Dubois, etc. Even Zacha had his 'baggage'.

Character flaws. Effort levels.

But a change of scenery and a new leadership group often lead to kids in their 20's becoming men and accepting responsibility.

If Lindholm can take on defensive matchups on line 3 and chip in 40-50 points like Coyle, I think I can live with him with the salary cap increasing. Not ideal, but really he'll only be overpaid by a mil or two

I'm no fan of Zegras, however the amount of young, offensively talented players that become available is usually pretty small. He has room to grow, and he gives you a much better chance of getting a top 6 forward than whoever you might draft in round 1 this draft, at least IMO. Buy low moves like this are what helps a pick/prospects starved team build their next core

They said on Dom's podcast he was being brought in to consult the coaching staff.

Personally, I think he's here to help with the leadership and culture of the team. He's the guy who turned it around in the first place. He can help get it back in the right direction again (and maybe help maintain it if Marchand goes on a short vacation).

I'm curious if he is watching Harvard and BU with McQuaid, Sweeney and Gold at the moment.

I had heard he would be consulting the coaching staff, then TSN wrote an article about it, and then Sweeney made the comments.

But who knows for sure.

I don't do player comps and no one should really. These kids are not finished products.

That said, I don't see a Lowry comparison

Zacha, Poitras and Lindholm make up a fine middle six C group. But one of them is gonna have to move to wing or be a chip to get a center to slot above them.

He looked really good yesterday versus the habs basically the player you just described and I came away impressed because there wasn't any showboating or trying to do to much, At-least during the part of the game I watched.lol
I agree i watched this game too espacialy to watch him and he was very good imo, great skating, lot of skills, Bruins dont have that kind of guys right now, except Pasta

Poitras can become a 2 when he rounds out his defensive game, adds more strength, and experience

I can see him 23-24 years old if he keeps improving

Free Agency or/ and drafting (usually 1 overall) best way

Grabbing an Aho (38 overall) or Point (79) or Bergeron (45) are rare

Bruins fans want the top center that goes in top pick area but don’t have stomach to be anything but 110 point team

If we want to see the arc of a player who matured as he got older and was given the rope to make his mistakes, look no further than our own Brad Marchand.
Marchand surprised me. Early in his Bruins career I would have been pleased if they got rid of him. I thought his immature, stupid antics were a detriment. Easily the most frustrating Bruins player for me.

Marchand was very fortunate that he got to play with and be mentored by Bergeron. To his credit Marchand took the coaching and began to mature into the player we see today.

Savard deserved the criticism he got and he's said as much. He was already exceptional offensively and his on ice vision was the best in the game. Fans were on him just as much as Claude and the coaching staff were. Savvy put in the work and within a year, was one of the best overall players in the league.

IMO, his ceiling could be a Krejci style player but he's a ways off.

Zegras is nowhere near where Savard was. He's a good player but he's still got a lot of room to improve. I'm not sure he has the ability to handle the responsibilities the Bruins put on their forwards and especially their center's.
Not commenting on Zegras because I just dont know enough.

But, that he’s no Marc Savard, is no sin. As you say, Saavy was a beast and a warrior. Sadly, maybe too much of a warrior.

Hope Matt Cooke has a nasty two week flu and is endlessly loosing out of both ends at same time. Absolute scum.

Would love Zebras on the team if the league was going with a new 3 vs 3 format for the full 60 minutes.
I would very much like zebras on the team. Not sure if i think they are cute or straight out handsome. Either way, they are easy on my eyes. And i love the idea of plural zebras — meaning we could like like maybe, three? Count me a big “amen to a herd.”

long time ago I know...but the Kraut line went to war together literally ...prepared to give it their all on or off the ice...now we're lucky to have something like a Tesla line of three guys who share their eco friendly philosophy....or the fashion line ....or the new dads line ....man times have changed, for the better I guess but we aren't churning out men like we used to...those are the guys the Bruins usually targeted to have on the team...John Wayne types....for all you Neeley haters ...he definitely was one of those types, still is ...2011 had a bunch of them as well....this team not so much, the world is softer and so are the Bruins...now go get Zegras :)

Surprised how many people have done a 180 on Zegras. He really makes the most sense as a buy low candidate.

In regards to the risk, are there really any players who had back to back 60 point seasons before the age of 22 and then "showboated" their way out of the league? I think he would be the first..

The injury history concerns me the most so I think it's pretty valid if the price just isn't worth it but it just seems much more likely that Zegras matures out of it (if he hasn't already). I don't think anyone is going to mistake him for a young Bergeron but damn I think if any of us could beat an NHL goalie with a michigan at his age, we would do the same thing

I think you immerse him in the culture of playing two way hockey, with a focus on cup aspirations and team play and he'll flourish here. He definitely could use a change of scenery/coaching to revitalize him. This isn't unheard of around the league.

He is the EXACT type of player that would be a dynamic playmaker on the opposite half wall of Pasta on the PP. We need a player with his skill badly.

JVR ate on in the mouth last night. I believe he lost two teeth, got stiched up, came back and played. Only to find out after the game that they sewed up his lip with a piece of tooth still in it. He’s coming over to your house right after he’s done with the dentist and wants a word.

By the way @Over the volcano, just having fun. Whiling away the time hoping Donny doesn’t think we can limp in.

yup.... that type....warriors..... I get it though ...we do need skill ....but I'd prefer the Jamie Benn type skill over the Zegras type skill...that was simply an example for contrast. JT Miller would have been one as well. Happy we have Zad, a throw back that offers more than modern stats can capture.

I was just having fun. I agree. I’d like to see as many Kastelic’s (and I was very down on that trade) on our bottom six (or at least three on our 4th line) as possible. Hard work, edgy, physical guys who can chip in offense can play on my team any day.

They should make Freddy room with Kastelic.
