Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XIV

Bruins should be targeting:

Pettersson
Miller
Zegras (project with upside)
Barzal
Lee
Malkin (back from IR after the break)
Wright (like Zegras, young project)

There are several other coveted forward but I just don't see the struggling teams (Beniers, Cooley, Keller, etc) parting with them.

UFA market paired with high cap hit scares lots of us here (Zhamnov, anyone!?) and going for a trade for someone out of favour in their franchise (the Florida Zito approach) would make huge sense for the Bruins who have gift-wrapped a top line role (hey, welcome to Boston these are your linemates Pastrnak and Zacha!) where you are given every opportunity to produce.

Even giving a C Pastrnak and Geekie is a great start to their career in Boston.

Agree on #18 but not #13.

Makes it movable. I'm the biggest critic of Coyle because I was basically him to a tee (style of play, off ice and dressing room as well as being in the right place with the wrong hands, lol) and know he is an asset in the room but also see that last year may have been his last as a top 6.

And now those players have moved on and are in a playoff spot, and the guy they replaced Stamkos with is a PPG.

How do you know that those players have moved on? You don't because you're not in the room or have access to them. Also, they're clinging to a playoff spot at the moment.....and is a wild card spot

Even the most pessimistic Bruins fan needs to realize McAvoy is an elite defenseman. Still top 10, on a good team with any system and talent.

He simply doesn't need to run the PP. Find a different option. He also needs support. He tries to do too much. Pastrnak can do that as a top 5 NHLer. Few others can. When was the last McAvoy hit?

Being the reverse of Karlsson is a fine option. Points are not everything even in the modern artificially driven offense era.

I am still not convinced he will not sell off more assets trying to make playoffs .Be glad when this deadline is past .

Yes, Charlie has had a down year this year. Lot of guys in this roster can say the same thing, but he gets paid more, so he gets more shit than he probably deserves. If memory serves, nobody was bitching about that contract at the time it was signed. For Reference, here's your top 20 paid defensemen by AAV.

Bruins that should be traded.

1. Frederic for 2nd and 4th round pick. (likely a late 2nd and 4th round pick as a contending team would love to add what he brings in terms of nastiness, when he is right.

2. Coyle (Bruins retain 1.25) for a 2nd and 3rd round pick. Coyle is the ideal 3C on a contending team. Whoever trades for him also gets him for another run next year.

3. Korpisalo for a 3rd round pick (hopefully more) to a team looking to add a quality goaltender. He has been solid this year.

4. Brazzeau for a 4th or 5th round pick

5. Koepke for a 4th or 5th round pick

6. Last but not least and most importantly ask Marchand where he is at. If he wants to stay, extend him, if not let the bidding war begin.

These moves would open up a ton of cap space to add at Free agency if they choose to while not completely crippling the team moving forward. It will also force this clown management group to call up and play Lysell and Merkulov.

A situation kind of similar is Edm.Paying Nurse the most but Bouchard is running the top powerplay there .That is going to be a big issue though soon with Bouchard due a new deal .Guaranteed his agent brings up what Nurse makes and wants more.

No Bergeron means he is being exposed as at best 15-20 #1 dman. Two years in a row Brandon Montour outplayed him. I have seen all I need to see with McAvoy.
You got the best of McAvoy already and he will keep going down the list
of #1Dmen. If you get the right deal from NY Rangers (probably only team he would waive for) do it.

Hard to tell from the outside looking in, on if there’s any urgency in Sweeney. I surely don’t want to see him make any irrational decisions. There’s still 5 weeks to the deadline, I’ll give him till then as prices tend to go down the closer the deadline . Although Id like to see him sell right now, but I’m sure other GMs are holding out as well.

He also really doesn’t have much value as in terms of assets to bring in someone of significant, so maybe he sees what many do, this team isn’t a playoff team, and he’s leaning on selling more than anything, these next couple of games against the Rangers should go a long way in giving everyone some clarity, on his plans.
