Could one argue that maybe Marchy never had to go through that same weight of responsibility here with Chara, Krejci and Bergeron always on the team? Wonder if it stunted his growth as a leader a bit, or if having those world class leaders around helped even more

I don't know. Marchy went all last year without those guys around as leaders and they did pretty well. I do think he learned from them... but he was always fiery and intense, and a talker. Not everyone is built that way, or has to lead that way but IMO this particular team does lack a second guy like that, who will speak up, who will hold teammates accountable.

Id agree, which is where I was leading you towards with the question - I think having him around to mentor those guys as leaders could be more important than seeing how they do without him.

I definitely think that's true of the younger players. I think Poitras, and whoever else comes in here, whether it's Lysell or someone they trade for, they need to see that kind of leadership.

Pasta and Mac have seen it now for a year and a half. Hopefully they'll see it again next season. I don't think it would hurt them to have to carry the torch for 3 months, and feel the weight of it.

I thought you were going to say it's crazy that a team like Carolina, who acquired Guentzel last year and then lost him to free agency, went back to the same well and acquired Rantanen this year. They said on Daily Faceoff that Rantanen is saying he won't sign.

I don't want to see Marchand traded (if he's not coming back), but in a way, it could be a good thing for Pasta and McAvoy to see what life is like without Brad (and to a lesser extent Coyle). To feel the weight of that responsibility, to deal with that adversity, to be the one who's held accountable... It might help them grow as leaders.

Personally, I would trade Coyle before Marchand. Coyle is a puck protecting procession center with limited offensive creativity. This team needs a creative play making center, swap Coyle for a center of about similar age, and contract but who can create offensively. I also think it would create more opportunities for the wings. Having a play making center would give Poitras further time to develop. Speaking of Poitras I think he is going to need at least 200 plus games played in this league before we begin to see what he really has to offer consistently.

They have to clear space this off season and either trade or sign a legitimate top line center. If you cannot trade for one sign Marner or Rantanen, both are wings but both should be able to carry a line.

See what Marchand will take, it needs to be team friendly. Coyle and Carlo get you 9 million plus in cap space, whatever you get back is a plus, the cap space is huge. I have no idea what to do with Elias Lindholm, just a huge disappointment. You can't buy him out and it looks awful to trade a newly signed free agent a year after signing him. They have to figure a way to make him productive but they cannot afford two number 3 centers in Coyle and Lindholm for almost 13 million in cap space.

There will not be a tear down and rebuild, Jacobs is not sacrificing playoff gates for more than a year or two. They will do what they did in 2015. Move a key player or two and try to fill in those spots while your draft picks get ready. Sweeney did an OK job with his return for Lucic and Hamilton but then screwed up a generational draft and is paying for that now ( Zach Senyshyn. JFK. WTF)

Problem is Sweeney doesn’t have the assets this time around he had in 2015 when he traded Lucic and Hamilton, but yea cap space is huge, that’s why the Bruins should start moving guys asap.

I just don’t see no quick fix unless he can move out the cap space and some how convince a Marner Rantanen to sign here, if they hit the open market. Kicking the can down the road and going for it all those years is finally paying it’s toll.

Id argue a core of Lohrei/Poitras/Sway/Pasta/Mac is a pretty solid one to build around, so if you believe he's good at building around a core they really should just keep him and let him build around this one

I don’t see Poitras as part of the core at this point. Looks like he needs more time in Providence this year.

Only 20 so he should be ok once he gets more experience and man strength.Far bigger worries then him at the moment..This is a train wreck they built.

Wright seems to be turning it around in Seattle. Would love to get him here but it would cost a lot.
