Zadarov is what he is, One mean SOB who's solid defensively and isn't going to let anyone take out any liberties on any of his teammates, but I wouldn't call him a true shutdown defenseman, he's not a guy who you say hey go out there and shut-down Brady Tkachuk or Jack Hughes. Sure neither of them tore up the scoreboard against the Bruins, but both those players and teams have had it pretty rough lately, tkachuck no points in his last 9games and the sens have been shut-out 5 times since the new Year. The devils winning only twice in Januarary entering their game against the B's.
Fwiw, I wouldn't call Zadorov a shut down defender either.

Chara was a shut down D. Seidenberg was a shutdown D. Zadorov wasn't brought here to be that. He was brought here to be our Boychuk. Be a player who can play 20 minutes a night, bring a little offense, be a hard defender and an intimidating hitter.

I am here as well - he is not consistent bringing it

He certainly can - he should be a 10 goal minimum important component of the bottom 6

Mike Keenan the Flyers version would have either made him into a better player or ditched

I like him but forwards need to be noticed
Big fast skaters fool me and I would say most fans. He has hands of stone, he is who he is. If he has value move him now.

I'm not writing him off in 1 year of a 7 year contract. Look at pld he was thrown overboard last year and found his game in Washington.
Dubois is 26. The writing is on the wall. We got Zhamnoved. I would retain 1-1.5 mil and get rid of him. Delusional thoughts Van would take him back. A man can wish.

He's probably not scoring 100 points here.
110!?

Did he get dinged earlier this season? I seem to recall a game where he took a high hit that worried me (hell, he took one last night at end of game last night that looked a bit worrisome).

I ask because to me he looks like the version of Carlo that we've seen after prior concussions.

I may be wrong - absolutely. But not sure why he'd struggle so much this season. As you say, he's been under appreciated around here. He's a good dman, but this season has been rough.
Jamie Benn hammered him.

Ideally, I would like to keep John Beecher. But they'll probably either cut him loose for peanuts or bury him in Providence.

If you can move Beecher for a return , help him pack. I consider him a very disappointing player . a league minimum player

Can't say you didn't have leaning that way on your thought process when you said
:)

"Zadorov has played 23, 24 minutes a night against Tkachuk (no goals allowed) against Jack Hughes (no goals allowed), against Kucherov (no goals allowed)...

Just thought thats what you were implying as those are 3 legit top forwards when you singled them out going up against Zadarov, My Bad.

While I agree that it’s disingenuous to dismiss advance stats when they don’t favour your opinion, while lauding them when they do - I don’t think PlayMakers is doing that here. In fact, even within the this very conversation, he admitted that Zadorov was a disaster to start the season under Montgomery and it’s only after he’s settled in a bit that that’s turned.
I'm a fan of analytics, but I learned years ago that context matters. People like to say that analytics just tell you what happens when a player is on the ice, but that's not true. They tell you what happens when a player is on the ice, in a particular system, in a particular role, with a specific partner, under a certain coach, against a certain level of competition...

You can have an inferior player who is getting sheltered minutes and easy matchups put up significantly better analytics than a guy in a much tougher role playing harder minutes on the same team.

You can have a defenseman on a bad team put up terrible analytics, and everyone says that guys a bum, but then that defenseman goes from a team in turmoil to a stable, well run team and his numbers completely flip. (That actually happened when Zadorov went from Chicago to Calgary, or when Lindholm went from Anaheim to Boston.)

Bad teams are usually bad because they get consistently outplayed. It's very hard for players on bad teams to have good analytics. For example...

On the Bruins, for players that have played at least half our games there are only 3 skaters (forward or D) that have a Corsi above 50%. There is only 1 defenseman on the team with an xG% or Scoring Chance % over 50, and that defenseman gets 63% Ozone starts. Zadorov gets 59% Dzone starts.

So while I don't mean to come off as dismissive of analytics, I‘ve learned not to take them at face value. With context they are really powerful and insightful.

No worries at all, it was leading, that’s my bad. I just wanted to show that he’s had some tough assignments and done well.

We'll always have Pasta, but even he isn't immune. There was a whole raft of posts earlier this year from a few folks saying trade him, he sucks, floats, etc.
That was always laughable. No offense intended. Pastrnak was alone much of the first half of the season and only lately has gotten support from Zacha/Geekie/Marchand.
