A lot of talk in the local media that they should do a re-tool.

What does a re-tool look like to you?

Trade the pending UFAs to the highest bidder, explore trading Coyle and maybe Carlo but he's younger and harder to replace, play the kids in the holes left behind. Regroup in the offseason with more draft capital and a ton of cap space.

It's totally feasible for them to go this route and still make the playoffs IMO, the east isn't very good this season and I don't think it's impossible that the kids give you similar contributions that we're getting from some of the vets.

Certainly has the makings of a deal. A blockbuster, Sweeney and Lou should entertain us and do 7-8 player deal.

It will. However, Forbes estimates Jeremy Jacobs net worth at $4.6 Billion. A significant chunk of that is the Boston Bruins -- an investment that has made him an extremely wealthy man.

So let's say you bump that figure up to $10M and assume by not trying to sneak into the playoffs you lose two home game Playoff revenue hauls -- $20M.

I guess the question is would the average person invest 0.44% of your net worth to do some much needed repairs on your biggest asset and money maker?

Yes, we can play around with different numbers. My point is simply that playoff revenues are tiny compared to the overall worth of the team and Jacobs. He's going to have to "reinvest" at some point and by that I mean find some cost effective youth prospects -- which might mean missing a PO or two to restock somewhat. His bullpen is pretty empty right now -- and extremely empty when compared against other NHL teams and owners.

20 mil can win you a national championship

I would think the Jacobs would much prefer to have an extra 20 mil at the end of the season , than go without it. The rich get richer for a reason. The one thing on top of that, if they get in, I think they could beat the Caps and get more than the 2 home games of gate revenue, but problem being for Neely and Sweeney even if they make a deal, their not a lock, unless somehow they can get a true number one Center.

Honestly I think they could get away with getting a top-class playmaking wing like Panarin and acccomplish much the same. Their centers are not objectively bad, just don't have the offensive chops you want in that position. We have that in our best line, with Zacha who is not a true 1C in any sense centering Pasta, so it could work on a second scoring line with the right player.

Honestly I think they could get away with getting a top-class playmaking wing like Panarin and acccomplish much the same. Their centers are not objectively bad, just don't have the offensive chops you want in that position. We have that in our best line, with Zacha who is not a true 1C in any sense centering Pasta, so it could work on a second scoring line with the right player.

Is there really anyone out-there who can be had, who can fill that roll ? Sweeney usually keeps things all quiet and then bang he gets someone no one was expecting, so who knows maybe there is.

I mean even with Miller there's been nothing out there having the Bruins as the likely destination.
I would like to see a center added, not only for this year, but for down the road, but sure an elite winger would be nice as well, but I don't think we'll see anything until the 4nations break.

So what were seeing here is imo, is what their going to live or die with till then, I see these next 9 games as being a deciding factor for Sweeney on if he's a seller or a Buyer.

To me a re-tool is looking at your upcoming FAs (next 1 to 3 years) and deciding right now who you don't see as part of the core going forward. I take a hard look at Geekie/Freddy/Coyle/Brazeau/Peeke/Carlo first and ask Marchy what he wants to do.

You sell off the guys you don't see on this team in 2+ years for picks/prospects and re-sign the others to build your bottom 6 around.

You are now armed with some extra assets as well as cap space. Now you either restock the cupboard with the picks/prospects you obtain or you use these extra assets coupled with some roster pieces to find a legit top 6 forward (preferably a center under age 27).

You can replace the guys you moved out through UFA or promotion within.

To me this not only helps fill the hole in the top 6, but gives you a chance to rebuild the bottom 6/depth D by bringing in new players for the guys you move for picks.

You also have the cap space to be heavily involved if an elite UFA hits the market like Rantanen, so I like the options this type of retool gives you to build this roster.

This is what stood out to me from that Islanders article. And this imo is why the Jacobs family is never overly concerned with the state of the team, and with the front office.

Attendence is tightly coupled to long term team performance for most organizations in the league. Should the Bruins falter for a few years, I don't believe that capacity number would stay at 100%.

I agree on your take, but Id move Marchand if the Bruins are out of it on March 6th. He's gone, Ill ask him where he prefers to go and ill see if it'll work, but no promises he's going for the best return. He is imo the Bruins best chip on a re-tool.

Yeah, I have no idea- that's why they pay Don the big bucks. I am just saying that in my view a true #1 Center, although ideal, is not necessarily the way they have to go to remake the top 6 into something more of a threat than it is. We should not be limited to discussing just JT Miller here (or any other Center that might be had).
