I have doubts that the top line will continue being effective once the playoffs start. Like we kinda went through this same song and dance with the Heinen-Zacha-Pasta line last season. They played the last 20 games together and were actually better then the current top line has been from both an underlying metric perspective, and in terms of actual goals score. (around 4 G/60 for the current top line vs around 5.5 G/60 for 43-18-88).

But then we got to the playoffs and it ended up working so poorly that they had to break it up. Pasta is a top 5 offensive engine in the league at this point, no one has done more with less then he has over these past 2 years. But you need someone else on his line that can actually generate some offense if you want them to have a chance at winning top line matchups in the playoffs.
Yeah, that was accurate, but they don't have the depth up front this year , unless they make a trade to obtain at least one bona fide top 6F.

Don't know that I agree with all that, but my point still stands. He has to score to be worth $7m.

There isn't a 40 point forward in the NHL worth $7m a year.
You get him out of Buffalo and I think the odds are pretty good. Hes only 24 im sure he'll have no problem in justifying that 7 mil a year contract.

Teams have been locking up players at an younger age to reap the benefits as they mature in their later years to help with the cap down the road, and thats what the sabres did with Cozins and with the Cap trending upwards, imo a very good move.

Id much rather him than JT Miller who's 32(March) and in 2 years more than likely wont be as productive as a 26 year-old Cozins, or have near the value, imo.

No ,but they need to keep him away from the powerplay .
I'd like to see him on PP2, and in a different role...

PP1
Braz
Pasta Geekie Zacha
Lohrei

PP2
Coyle
McAvoy Poitras Marchand
Lindholm

You've got some stars on PP2 so it shouldn't feel like a kick in the teeth to get assigned there. It also keeps the lines together so you can come back with a rested 3rd line, and it puts 2 D out with the second unit so they can just play on when the PP expires.

Totally agree on Mac. I miss those hits. Zadorov is what he is. Great signing. I watched the Oilers series. He had that Oilers team on the run, he was unreal.
Big Bad Zad is kinda all over the place (like many of my posts) but overall he’s good

Definitely needs structure/ early on he was going for skates all over the defensive zone

Zadorov & Lohrei although different types need a bit of structure but allowed to do their thing but be aware of surroundings, score, opposition on ice etc - just be responsible

I want them to be who they are but they got to be disciplined or it can go bad fast

One of the TSN guys the other day described Zadorov as an unguided missile. Made me chuckle. And ya, that’s pretty much what he is some nights.

When he plays like he did last night, with a more of a wonder if he’s going to try to kill me or not vibe, he’s much more effective.

Why is today trade a number one defenseman day?
Because they are scrapping by and he’s not here
Zacha and Pasta are Great together and of Course Geekie has rounded that line out making it one of the best in the NHL ATT. Often a great line consist of two stars and then a guy who just fits in, adds great chemistry or unbelievable defense awareness to form a top trio.

In this Case Pasta has taken not one, but two players who normally wouldn't be close to a teams first line and has been able to make them first line players, that gives this team a shot every night, just an undeniable superstar.
bang on

Very underappreciated hockey player in this town.
he’s a lot smarter then he used to be

I’d love to grab one of those Buffalo wingers ~ Kulich, Quinn,Benson, or Rosen.

All look like they can be top 6 guys eventually

Peterka & Tuch can’t see moving

I would trade my first for any of the four up top but 0.0 happens

Chicago another team loaded with prospects

I would trade my first to them for Oliver Moore

Exactly, this is fixable for next season if they make the right moves.

Lindholm is here and frankly he's not going anywhere. Between his own NMC and his albatross contract, the Bruins are stuck with him. And I don't think current management has any desire to move him either. For whatever reason, they are infatuated with this player.

Let's just assume Marchand is back next year. To me, to get the most out of both of their skill-sets you need a RW who can both produce and play solid defensively and this becomes your No.1 defensive line. They get the toughest defensive assignments. I'd also like that player to bring an element of shooting and speed to that line. I have no idea who that is but I don't think that player is currently in the organization. Would a JT Miller fit here? Regardless of what I think of Miller as a teammate, all we really know for sure is how he fits on the ice. He doesn't do much to improve overall team speed but the guy can shoot for days, elite level shot and finish. Solid two-way player, that line can go up against any line in hockey defensively.

What if the line was Marchand - Lindholm/Miller - Miller/Lindholm. Lindholm can and has played RW. Miler has played all 3 forward positions. This team already loves having the guy taking the face-off always on his strong side. That line would be a menace on face-offs.

Then if Poitras is to remain at C, he's the fixture of line 3. Now you need to find two wingers for him, one of them absolutely needs to be able fly and make plays. Let's say that becomes Lysell who to me fits the bill now you need the correct LW for those two. If that isn't Trent Frederic (and I don't think it is because I'd like someone who produces and performs more consistently ), they would have to go outside the organization here as well which would be my preference. But we know Frederic is another player this organization loves so let's just assume he's extended for now. I do like how Frederic could protect the two young forwards.

Geekie - Zacha - Pasta - scoring line 1

Marchand - Lindholm/Miller - Miller/Lindholm - shutdown line 1

Frederic - Poitras - Lysell - the most sheltered line defensively

Beecher - Kastelic - Koepke - forechecking line

Jones, Wahlstrom, and Letteri don't have any trade value. Would they be able to parley Coyle +++ into Miller without subtracting from the group of forwards above? What would have to be added to do so? Do they need to cough up a 1st round pick? Should they? Would they have to subtract from the D-corps?
I think Coyle + Carlo + Lysell/Merkulov matches the Rangers proposed deal for JT Miller. Chytil has more potential than what Coyle is as a player, but Chytil is also injury-prone. Carlo has more value than Lindgren based on contract status and fills a potential need the Canucks have with bolstering RD. I think Merkulov/Lysell would be a better fit than a late 1st especially if the Canucks potentially plan on moving on from Boeser.

Here's the issue with the JT Miller situation. It was mentioned he had permission to talk to the Rangers and Hurricanes, but we know how that ended with the big trade on Friday. Is he willing to go to another team other than the Rangers? Does he want to be a Bruin? Similarly to how the Bruins got Taylor Hall for peanuts, if the Canucks are negotiating with just the Rangers now, they aren't going to get anything more than what the Rangers are offering.

If you have two 80+ centers on your team, one is older in their prime, has a lower cap hit, has full trade protection, isn't having the best season, but is a PPG in the playoffs (vs.) the other player is just about to enter their prime, has a higher contract, has no trade protection, isn't having the best season fulfilling his new contract, and didn't have the best playoffs recently, from an asset standpoint, it makes sense as to why the younger Pettersson's name is out there now.

This is one of the better suggestions I have seen regarding pp with what they have.

This is probably going to get roasted. But am I the only one thinking the Bs sell high on Geekie?

I think they could get him at a fair short term number as he’s an RFA this offseason and even if he hits 25 goals.

You can see his game has improved. He’s a lot more confident with the puck and has even created plays. Starting to wonder if he could be considered a solid top 6 contributor going forward.

But at the same time, how much of it could also be attributed to the resurgence of David Pastrnak?
We get something unexpected and exciting at a good age and we want to put on the trade block

So who goes in that spot ?

Give me 3-5 names
