AFP Analytics just released their projections for upcoming contract extensions. Based on a $92.5M cap limit, here's what they project for Bruins players:

  • Brad Marchand - 3yrs 7.6M AAV
  • Trent Frederic - 4yrs 4.0M
  • Morgan Geekie - 4yrs 3.5M
  • Mason Lohrei - 2yrs 3.1M
  • John Beecher - 2yrs 1.8M
  • Justin Brazeau - 2yrs 1.5M
  • Cole Koepke - 1yr 1.2M
  • Parker Wotherspoon - 1yr 995k
  • Marc McLaughlin - 1yr 775k
Like most of those numbers, still kind of on the fence about Freddy at 4mil or higher.

That was a great draft year for the Hartford Whalers.

They got Kevin Dineen in the 3rd round, Ulf Samuelsson in the 4th round and Ray Ferraro in the 5th round. All had long (over 1000 games), successful careers.

But we would be pissed because they took Paul Lawless instead of Dave Andreychuk in the first round.
That was a great draft for the whale regardless, but did they have three convective picks in the first round to take Dave Anderreychuk?

No, they did not.

But those were different times.

You could have picked up Doug Gilmour in the 7th round of that draft.

And the Devils drafted Rocky Trottier (38 NHL games) with the 8th overall pick.

Nice. That's a good barometer. My $.02

I think Marchand will take a steep discount vs their projection.
I think Frederic gets more if he hits the UFA market.
Geekie seems fair and would be a good deal for Boston.
Lohrei is a bit high for a bridge, I was thinking something in the $2's for 2 years.
Beecher can walk at that price. Stone hands needs to stay under $1m for me.
Brazeau is a bargain at $1.5, I think he will cost at least $1m more, maybe double if he hits free agency.
Koepke and Wotherspoon seem fair.

Lohrei and Poitras two very nice 2nd round picks by Sweeney love them (Swayman). Don't know how last years first is going to turn out (Dean Letourneau)but just from the highlights Ive seen on him. He looks pretty impressive, really good hands for a big man, great vision and a high hockey IQ. kudos to Donny boy and his scouting staff on those picks, now lets see what lysell can do in Boston.

Beecher might have the worst hands of any forward in the league. When I think of Bruins players with “stone hands” I immediately think of Daniel Paille, but he was like Pavel Datsyuk compared to this guy.

No one knew that for a fact at the time.

What if the Bruins had taken Sebastian Aho instead of Shsynshkyndg. The reaction here would have been exactly the same. It just wouldn't have lasted for 10 years.
I love the fact that we're getting all this "2015 is history - get over it" condescension.

We have collectively bragged for more than 10 years about where players like Pasta, Bergeron, Marchand, and Krejci were picked and that's a fact. And don't bullshit me it's not. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

2015 was an epic miss and 10 years on is about the time the impact of that really comes home to roost -- as those players should be starting to represent the new core or have been traded for assets that get Cups or create what is the new core.

Consider:

- Players taken in 2015 FR who have played less NHL games than Zboril: Two. One was Senyshyn
- Players taken in 2015 FR who have played less NHL games than Senyshyn. Zero
- NHL GP by FR Picks taken after Zboril: 510,16,525,477,172,531,320,189,517,611,492,154,172,598,81,41.
- Number of times we've had 15th pick or higher in past 20 drafts: 7, including 2015 three picks.

We're sick of 2015, I get it. But given that we have pretty much worst prospect pool in the league, please don't anyone insult my intelligence by saying 2015 wasn't a major f*** up and one that continues to haunt us today,

Beecher might have the worst hands of any forward in the league. When I think of Bruins players with “stone hands” I immediately think of Daniel Paille, but he was like Pavel Datsyuk compared to this guy.
Paille got a lot more chances to score. I liked the player, a lot more valuable to the team than Beecher .

Yup. Maybe on a 1 year deal, but not if he's signing a 3 year at that price.
yeah, let's throw more cap space away, for shit performances. .......You what is really pissing me off, is that I am really giving on this team, and really starting to dislike them, this really sucks as a fan. Being disappointed is one thing, but this not like playoff loss after having high hopes, or losing a tough, this just generally sucks, and is disgusting.

All of Beecher’s value is tied up in his face off ability. Useful 4C but yeah I wouldn’t pay 1.8 for what he brings

Frustrating to see Brown get the call but I imagine it’s because they don’t want Lysell or Merkulov playing 4th line. Would prefer Farinacci then but maybe that’s just me. Or even Viel to replace Kastelic’s toughness

Paille got a lot more chances to score. I liked the player, a lot more valuable to the team than Beecher .
No doubt. He was far superior at protecting the puck, which I think led to him generating more chances. It feels like anytime the puck is on Beecher’s stick, there’s a high likelihood of him spazzing out and losing it, or getting it stripped by an opposing player

I hope this isn't related to Kastelic concussion and the fact that the Bruins may have brought him back to soon. Carlo at time looks like a Veggie out there. he really does, looks like a shadow of himself at times.I questioned the timing of his returns on prior occasions. I didn't like seeing Kastelic back as quick as he was.

He got tagged at the start of the fight he had immediately after coming back and I was worried. Assumed it was ok as he played out rest of game but now am worried.

Panthers have been to the finals two seasons in a row. That can take a toll on a team, especially one that plays their type of game.

But I wouldn't write them off, either.
Presidents Trophy the year before that as well.

I see less falloff from them than other recent Cup winners like Colorado who lost interest entirely and Vegas similar.

Don’t mind Max Jones if Freddy is going to be sick for a bit. I obviously have … um … preferences over Brown.
I'm not a big fan of Brown's play, but he stood up for Poitras in Providence recently when an opposing player laid a pretty big open-ice hit on him. That's good enough in my book especially if it's going to most likely be temporary.
