I was the only one who at an HF members pre draft party a few hours before draft in 2014 at the Outback (in Norwood ? I think where Boston Tavern is now) said based on knowledge from Don Sweeney they are taking Pastrnak - but I’d take Jared McCann

I am still living off this amazing prediction with the group present

Thank you Donny
Weird how Sweeney was the Brains behind the Pastrnak picking in 2014 but had very little to do with the first round the following year.

Top six with one top six. Tough times still ahead.

I count 3, but maybe 4. Maybe I'm more optimistic.

Zacha is at #127 for forwards in points, and heating up. Top 6 would mean 192 players. So I'm definitely not wrong here.

Now if you want to say "low end top 6er's", sure. Marchand is definitely also one. And Poitras is about to be if he stays healthy. Coyle we agree, isn't presently playing like top 6 material. Funny enough, Geekie is #168 in forwards for pts. In theory, he counts, but I'm ok giving you that one too. In a perfect world he's middle 6.

I agree. I don't think the issue is a lack of 2nd liners, it's a lack of 1st liners. We only have 1. I think you need 2 to have a dominant first line.

Hope it's precautionary too and he didn't rush anything coming back.

Really don't understand why a good soldier like Brown gets flak in here. He's the Providence captain and they're looking to fill in the bottom 6 (Frederic and Kastelic). He's got one fewer goal than Merkulov and is outproducing Lysell. He knows the role and is willing and able to fit it better than the promising "offensive" kids.
Because we know what Brown is...a guy who can dominate the AHL, but can't play in the NHL

The kids....we don't know what they can or can't do in the NHL....
And don't anyone say well they had one game to prove they belong and didn't score 5 goals so we know they suck

You need at least two, but one top 6 center needs to be one of them. The bruins are lucky that Pasta isn't only one of the best scorers in the league he's also one of the better playmakers, usually your top scores have a perennial set-up guy, not Pasta. He's an amazing, amazing player! This team would have a whole-lot of Ping-Pong balls in their near future without him.

Geekie's first two months were a study in invisibility too, though I hate projection, especially with players that don't really have a solid baseline.

i wouldn't worry about the brown callup. seems like he's just an extra body on a trip where the team has illness
floating around.

the beecher at $1.8M thing seems insane. with kastelic getting $1.5M, i wouldn't give any other 4th liners over
league minimum. that's how you properly manage a cap. sweeney is already gonna be paying the entire defense
corps above $2.5M each after lohrei signs whatever next deal he ends up getting.

As someone who is rooting for a Bruins lottery pick, I am all for Patrick Brown in the lineup over someone like Merkulov.

I mean, why would you want to reward Merk and find out what you have over a period of 10-20 games when you can just keep calling up AHL retread tweeners?

Something needs to change.

Sweeney will know a lot about this team and what direction he plans on going heading into the break.

Starting tomorrow night 9 games in 18 days for the Bruins before the 4 nations break. Buffalo being the only should win of those games. NYR twice, Winnipeg, Minnesota, Colorado and Vegas. That’s what’s lying ahead after Jersey and Ottawa this week.

I don't think when Merkulov left college for the Bruins and given his production down in Providence, that he thought, he wouldn't have been given a legit shot at the Bruins roster by now.

2.5 seasons 158 points in 173 AHL games, pretty impressive.

I mean in fairness one year he was literally in charge of player development and the other year he was in charge of the AHL team. It doesn't take a genius to understand in one role he would be more involved in scouting than in the other. Also, keep in mind that the scouts that made the 2015 calls had just had a baller 2014 draft. What manager comes in and says "I know you guys had a great draft and I haven't been doing scouting, but the public lists!"

I'm actually curious what our lineup would look like with Charlie, Hampus, Koepke, Kastelic all healthy. This seem right?

Geekie-Zacha-Pasta
Marchy-Poitras-Coyle
Freddy-Lindholm-Brazeau
Koepke-Beecher-Kasty
Lettieri or Walhstrom?

Zadarov-Mac
Hampus-Carlo
Lohrei-Peeker
Spoon
Rather have Koepke-Kastelic-Wahlstrom

Beecher catching bench

He already knows they are not good and have slim odds of making the playoffs. If he doesn't, he is fooling himself and he doesn't seem like that type. Neely does, but Sweeney doesn't.

A lot of talk in the media about a re-tool.

What does a "re-tool" look like to folks who are in favor of it?
Start with Merulov and Lysell down inprovidence, see what you have. See what you can get for your UFA all of them. Me personally Id like to keep Tfred, but if they can't come to an agreement or if a team over pays deal him. Basically dont move a Pasta,McAvoy,Lohrei,Swayman,Poitras Unless a crazy "immediate help" return is offered. Everyone else is on the table.

I am not big on Merk, because I think he lacks NHL quickness. Rest of his game is alright. TF I think should go he has neither the skill set nor motor to produce consistently. If the skills don't stop him, his inconsistent focus and effort will.
