24-25 Roster/Cap thread X

I don’t think it’s a false argument and it has plenty to do with Peeke. When assessing any value in return for a potential Carlo deal you need to factor in the player’s replacement.

If you weaken your defense to improve your offense, have you really improved overall? That’s with the assumption you are trading for a forward.

Let’s say it’s futures, those are great and could be used to flip, but you’ve moved a player to add maybes down the road. If I’m doing that I do it with an expiring contract like Frederic, not Carlo’s. Just my two cents

And who's replacing Peeke?

I like pasta so much that I would much rather see him succeed somewhere else where his talent can be more consistently exploited every night and hopefully come away with a cup or two than to have him be mediocre’d into oblivion in Boston

Throw in assets for the future that we will desperately need and it’s win win

Time to stop pretending
Come on man. You’re acting like we’re the Sharks or Blackhawks lol.

Nah - not yet - but we’ve been those teams before and what I want to avoid is being those teams again, so restocking the cupboard is a big part of that and genuinely feel like pasta deserves more than his career as a Bruin is looking like it’ll provide him.

Just another case of "it's not the players fault he's been bad, it's who he's playing with".

When was that, the 1960's?

Unbelievable.

You are increasing the risk of being one of those two teams again by trading Pasta. You'll spend those assets you gain trying to find another Pasta and MAYBE getting lucky and doing so.

The problem is with what you're suggesting (and it's not just you) is that you have a chance at becoming the next Sabres just as much as the next Oilers.

Highly skilled # 1 centre though and all I have ever heard is Bruins room is strong.Maybe they can make it work and settle him down.

You never do know, and the average fan (which includes me) has no real idea what has gone on with him. What's been publicly said has not been flattering to Mr. Miller, though. He is skilled and checks that box nicely in terms of team need for sure. I'd be surprised to see him here, though, given the Bruins track record.

Maybe, you could be right, and his problem is he is a driven player that wants more effort from everyone, and that is a good thing as long as he expects the same from himself. He was available in the past and I was not sure then, but the thing that scares me the most is his contract.

Patients. There's other ways to right this ship without giving up your best player.

There are ways to be that without being a dickhead (see Brad, Patrice, Zdeno etc etc).

So what’s the deal with Poitras? Lysell too to a lesser extent. They can’t score and they refuse to call guys with skill up? Is this a Neely/Sweeney issue with their obsession with grinders? It’s infuriating. I get you don’t want to kill Fred’s trade value completely by benching him but he’s not doing a single thing to help the team. Whalstrom is absolutely useless.

Carlo
Frederic
Lysell
2nd

Miller 25% retained

Vancouver would take this and run

The 2nd would become a first if Miller wasn’t such a cancer in the room
Kypreos on SN is saying Miller would only accept a trade to NY Rangers. Deal could revolve around Zibanejad and K’Andre Miller. That’s a good package. Miller is a LS Dman and Mika is having a bad year (31 yrs old).

Comparatively - Zacha is 27 and is in his prime and Carlo is a RS dman. I would sooner add Frederic to this and go for the younger Pettersson (26). Especially if Miller wouldn’t come here anyways.

Vancouver wouldn’t do the quoted trade simply because its not enough quality, doesn’t involve a replacement centre and Miller wont come.

All I know is if that NY deal is the best they could get for Miller, they'd be crazy to take it. I would not touch MZ contract

Gotta say, the one downside of the cap is that it strangles in-season trades. It sucks waiting for the team's issues to be addressed. It gets frustrating watching the same group go out and not score. Frustrating watching the same PP do nothing, yet nothing changes.

I get Sweeney (and everyone in the league) don't usually make a move until the deadline (when they has the most cap space to play with) but man, if you're a team with problems, it makes for a loooong winter.

I'm actually with @BruinDust on this one. IF (not saying they will, but IF) Boston decides to be sellers at the trade deadline, Marchand is one of the first guys I'd consider moving. The fanbase would go apeshit, but that would be a gutsy (and smart) move in my opinion. He'd bring back a good return.

You could always bring him back in the summer if you wanted to.

I am absolutely on it. If he has a great four nations tournament his trade value could skyrock. We are talking about at least a first round pick + a great surefire prospect + good prospect in return. Unfortunately this is something Sweeney would never make happen. He would prefer to get into the playoffs and to get swept in the first round then to do something like this.

Think decision would be Marchands not Sweeney's.
