Look at his career in totality. Last year was the clear outlier and this season he’s basically doing what he always does. It’s why counting on, expecting, and needing inconsistent bottom 6 players to suddenly become consistent was a foolish mistake by Sweeney.,
IDK you look at Geekie he should increased production from age 23-25. Pretty normal stuff for any NHL player. Expecting him at 26 to be somewhere close to his production at 25 doesn't seem to be out of hand.
Seemed to me (and I certainly didn't see every game last year in the regulars season) he played a lot more center in the first 3/4s of the season, and as they past the deadline he started to be shuffled back and forth between wing and center. Played mostly C in Seattle too. Personally I think he's a better C than he is a winger.
I do hope Sacco changes this mind-set of shifting guys from C to the wing and back again, and get more consistency there. Choose your 4 centers and stick to it. It will help the wingers, the D-men, and the centers themselves. I think part of the issue defensively is D-men never really know who the center is. They are trying to make coverage decisions in less than a second in real time in their own end and they look back and see John Beecher who they think is the center on that shift, but instead he's the winger or vice versa. Familiarity breeds success.
