The comments from Friedman about how much the cap might be going up make you feel better about the contracts on the team going forward and about their ability to be able to add some more skill going forward. Which takes “let’s blow it up” off the table if you are a competent GM (at least from ownerships POV).

It does have 2015 retool vibes right now. Problem is that Poitras and Lorhei ain’t Pasta and McAvoy. Building thru UFA ain’t gonna be wise as there aren’t going to be “we can’t fit them under the cap and are sad to see them go” guys hitting the market if teams are flush with cash. There might be some “we want to shake up or core” kinds of guys, but I think that the Lindholm and Zadorov deals will look cheap a year from now if a 9 million bump happens.

Which basically leaves you at taking flyers on guys like Florida did with Bennett and Reinhart and Boston did with Zacha and the draft. Aside from Zegras, not sure who else fits that profile.

I don’t disagree and said so at the time, but what winger has continued to be the problem. Necas didn’t move. Don’t think Guentzal was going to choose here over Tampa. You could have brought back DeBrusk, but you would have had to move out Coyle even if you didn’t sign Zadorov because you needed to add a D regardless even if it was a 3 million dollar guy instead (also, on that front, who?). I think it’s easy to say “they should have done A instead of B”, but there are ripple effects on everything and also other parties that have a say from agents to GMs that we are completely blind to. Maybe they did go talk to Guentzal’s people in a wink wink way and knew there was no shot. Maybe they did reach out to Carolina and they told Boston to f*** off.

if they aren't going to fire the coach, something like this would make sense. chicago would have to eat half the cap hit, and
also take geekie back which should make the money work (although @DominicT and others are way better at cap stuff than
i am). not sure what else they'd want - maybe a 3rd round pick or one of our prospects. at this point, they desperately need
speed and skill...and while hall is flawed, he did work here more often than not.

I’ve been beating the Hall drum since the summer. He’s great at carrying the puck through the neutral zone & gaining the blue line. Which imo is exactly what Pastrnak needs on his line so he isn’t turning over pucks as often as he has. Hall at 3m is enticing

IDK the few Chicago games I've seen his skating has taken a big step back. That explosive acceleration he was known for looks all but gone. That knee injury might of did him in as an effective NHLer.

I haven’t watched him at all since he left here. If his speed is gone that might explain his stat line. Then again he had 2 goals in 37 games in Buffalo and immediately scored 8 goals in his first 16 games as a Bruin

It's sad because he was truly one of the best skaters on the planet in a straight line when he was younger and healthy. Just phenomenal how he could get up to top speed without using cross-overs.

His MVP season in NJ he was unstoppable. He’s obviously no longer that player.

He had knee surgery the year after his MVP season that took him down a notch. Then the one last year, combined with advancing age, nowhere close to the player he once was.

I liked Hall when he was here and felt Monty didn't use him correctly in that record breaking regular season.

Hall is not going to play off wing at this stage of his career, and a big negative on Bertuzzi, and not just because of his play, we have enough shitty contracts. losing Hall in the first place was a mistake.
