This was the guy who during training camp I personally had mistaken as a young rookie playing in over his head in his TC games. One of those guys who I thought would be an early cut.

To my surprise he was a vet who has played over 300 NHL games.

Not trying to roast him before he even walks through the door but man, I hope if he does play that he looks a lot better than he did in training camp because woof.

I'm just spitting into the wind here, but ...

If the Bruins are not in the playoffs and not fighting for a wild card spot come the deadline then they should trade Coyle.

If they are in the playoffs or in the hunt, Coyle should be traded in the off season .

Coyle can be a good 3rd line center, but recently he has been misused by not using him to his strengths and trying to make him into something he is not.
Yes, that is an opinion, but if they insist on him being something he is not then trade for someone who is, or another need.

He will have a year left on his contract and hopefully will bring more in return than if he were a rental.
The reason being that what he brings to the team the Bruins have other players that could do the same, and maybe more, if given a consistent chance.

I could easily name 5 or 6 other players, not named Lindholm or Zacha, currently on the roster that could step in and play third line center right now. Keeping Coyle will in the long run block the development of some of these other players.

Coyle is a luxury, above average, 3rd line center on a true contender.
If the Bruins are not a true contender he becomes expendable.
Coyle is a good player and could bring a decent return especially from a contender.
Sure, he has had a good run here in Boston, but adding in age, tradeable cap hit, it may be time to move on.
Either at the deadline or the off season.

Ellers just fetched a 3rd and 5th round picks, Coyle should get us more.

Unfortunitly we are stuck with him for next year as well if we dont move him for a pick at the deadline if we are out of the playoff picture as I antisipate us being.

Is Coyle even tradeable right now with that extra year (assuming no retention)? Between his own trade protection, and the small number of teams that could fit him under the cap, I'm not sure they can at this current juncture. The opportunity to trade him was either last off-season, or at this year's deadline. I wouldn't expect much back though.

Only the bruins know his full potential. His skating and strength is a worry for this fan. Compete IQ skill are not issues.

PJ Axelsson was an excellent 3rd/4th forward whom people loved- then Claude moved him to the first line and people constantly complained about his play

The takeaway- put players in a position to succeed by slotting players to their strengths ...like PJ, putting Koepke on the first line is a disaster waiting to happen ...keep him in the bottom six forwards and let him play his game

There are small trades to be made but this league has like two trades of significance a year before the end of January. And one of them is usually Lamoriello getting out early.

There was a play last night where he turned the puck over in the o zone and the Blues head-manned the puck.

He skated back caught the guy with puck in the Bruins end and drilled him into the boards.

I can't remember the last time I've seen someone in a B's jersey move that fast.

5.75 million this season & next before an RFA .I would definitely want to chat with him first I was Sweeney.3 pts in 14 games is concerning even if it is Ducks.The article mentioned talking to Utah as well.Nick Schmaltz 5.85 this yr next 0 goals 12 assists but he is a good player I would like here

Rakell has 2 more years at $5M after this. That’s close to a negative value contract. He has 100 points in his last 170 games. What are you trading for that and how are you opening the space for it?

Always liked Rust but he’s turning 33 and has two more years at over $5M. See above.

Malkin is prohibitive and he would never waive to come to Boston.

They’ll probably get more for Pettersson than anyone else.

I rather doubt anyone in Edmonton is listening. Sorry about that.

As for Zegras, I would leave that on the table.

Aside from a need for scoring on the wing, I absolutely believe this is a team built for the playoffs, which can go deep.

What it cannot do is suffer the bewildered incompetence of Jim Montgomery a single game more.

Yes, the players have not played well. Yes, the roster could be better.

Twas ever thus.

Yet, to me, *every problem* the Bruins have experienced in their present campaign, obvious last season and calamitous against FLA in 2023, has been a matter of incompetent head coaching.

I don't wish to be mean spirited, but that's what I see.

The sooner the Bruins part ways with Jim Montgomery, the better for all involved.

I don't know what the answer is going forward.

I know what the first step is.

Zegras is probably the best player named. He creates a lot of offence. He is super soft so I’ve never loved him. But if he can find a way to reach his ceiling I’d probably love him.
