First legitimate Bruins trade rumor of the season?

Makes sense. I don't know that the Bruins can (or should) pay what Freddy will get on the open market, and they don't have a ton of trade assets to improve the team this season.

Geekie isn't playing well, we need our draft capital, we need our top6, we need Poitras, Lindholm has a NMC... What's left? Frederic and Lohrei. They're good players but losing them doesn't sink the ship. Ideally you keep Lohrei and let him grow, but a decision is coming on Frederic.

He’ll be 27 in February. How much does he improve going forward? Not sure. Difficult to get rid of a kid with size and (some) grit. He has shown he has the ability to score some goals. Inconsistency plagues him. Depends on the ask from his agent. Is anyone feeling good committing 5m+ per to him?

They can absolutely afford him.

I don't think they can pay Frederic and add an impact forward.

They need to add an impact forward.

This "rumor" feels like it came from anywhere but Boston
They had the cap space for Johnson, once they waived Tufte and sent him to Providence. If they are waiving Jones now, maybe there is another move coming?
Or they're cutting dead weight/banking for the deadline knowing they need space for a top 6 dude if no one else grabs the spot (Also who is Max Jones going in for right now? Even Geekie looked somewhat capable the last 2 games)

We’re going to have over $22M in space next year needing to sign Marchand and a couple RFAs. More than enough.
It's more than a couple. Marchand, Brazeau, Kastelic, Lohrei, Koepke, Beecher, Wotherspoon and Frederic.

I think they'll be around $85m without Frederic. Even if that's off $1 or 2m, that doesn't leave enough for Frederic and an impact forward.

If Freddy comes in at 5m I’d keep him over Geekie + Korpisalo at the same 5m combined
I wouldn't. The Bruins will invest in a backup. If they didn't have Korpisalo they would be paying someone $2m+ to be the backup.

Fwiw, I wouldn't keep Geekie if he's going to cost over $3m either.

This team needs another offensive play driver. That should be the focus, and the next big add. Don't let signing depth players get in the way of that.

Bruins need to see what they can get out of Poitras, Lysell, and Frederic. If Poitras continues his great play and makes a leap, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bruins try moving Coyle, who will be in the last year of his deal, this offseason.

It feels to me like they’re trying to get Monty fired, or at the very least, force a change in how they play.
It's coming don't worry.

I think Frederic is killing his value so far this season so may get to keep him cheap. That said ,if he is not signed b4 deadline then it should be bye bye time.
