I was advocating for that, not that I dislike swayman, is just what we are seeing now, eventually, you have to pay the piper, and his trade value could have given them some help for the next few years, and Ulmark the stop gap in a 2016-17 like transition. Instead, we are looking at a rebuild.

Who was available that is better than what we thought we currently have for that money??
I wanted them to sign a play making center in addition to Lindholm that could play in the top six, Stephenson? Maybe they tried but he wanted too much money?

With that said, and lack of options, I understand why they wanted a physical presence on the defense.
Maybe not the best choice, but it only cost money, not immediate player assets.
An impulse buy.
Maybe they should have kept Ullmark with his 5 mil cap hit for the year
Maybe move at deadline?
When was the last time a big name goalie moved at the deadline?
He most likely would have walked with not return at season's end.
Meanwhile offer Swayman a 1 yr 5 mil bridge take it or sit deal on par with Ullmark.
Swayman gets paid next year when the team has more cap space.
The other concern was they needed to maintain enough cap space to cover an offer sheet to Swayman.
So they did what they did.
But no Kastelic and no Zadorov In this scenario.
All in hindsight.
And now back to reality ... Montgomery needs to figure out how to work with what we have.
Good luck with that.
And no confidence in his ability to do so despite the previous two seasons.
Time for him to go.
Due to executive dysfunction resulting in failed team strategic execution regardless of player talent and experience.
Future concerns ...
If people think this team is in trouble now, the real problem will be when Marchand retires.
Who replaces him???
Draft picks? Trades? ...
To fix, someone will have to go that will hurt initially.
There is no one currently on the roster or in the system that comes close to what he brings, age aside.
Keeping Debrusk as a stop gap/solution?
While quick with potential he was/is too inconsistent and established himself as a complementary player not worthy of the term and money.
At some point we need an infusion of top six talent.
Right now it doesn't look good.
Something has to give.
Again, who was that top six winger that would have signed for 5 mil?

But future market might now be, that it doesn't how lousy you're playing you can get big pucks if you're feelin that you're worth it.
Zadorov is so confused how and why referees hate him just because his wearing different jersey. His on pace of 210 PIM. His career average is about 90 minutes to 82 GP.
They should have just been tackling and fighting all game. Set a tone for a new big Bruins team.
But somehow they always are weakest and softest. Whole league are laughing to them. That McAvoy slew foot and Carlo tackle should have started a beat up of Dallas players.

I blame Sweeney. This roster is middle of the pack at best. Vegas somehow is always involved in trades for some of the leagues top players when they become available despite them almost always being at the top end of the cap max. How have they done it? Does Sweeney cling to his prospects? Is Lysell worth anything today? Merkulov? I don’t think so. Maybe 2 years ago. Maybe moving Lohrei now in a package would help land a top 6 forward? I feel Sweeney keeps a tight grip on his prospects until they lose their value.
If Zegras is available he’ll end up in Vegas or Dallas. I’m not a fan of his game anyhow

Monty needs to put Merk in the top 6. If he can put Geekie there, he sure as hell can try a guy that has legit scoring talent there. At the very least, give the kid a chance to sink or swim in a role that suits his game. If he's good, we've got something. If he isn't, we'll know that too.

Sweeney’s teams have been carried *mostly* by players brought in under previous management. Now that those players have retired or been forced to move on because of cap issues caused by Sweeney and Evan Gold, they are on the path to becoming a middling team.

That's a bit of a stretch.
He's been GM for 10 seasons now. That's a long time to be carried by players from previous management.

Bergeron, krejci, pastrnak for the majority of that decade, chara about half. All cornerstone players added by previous management
Sweeney’s added McAvoy, swayman as cornerstone players in a decade

I feel badly for the STHs. Gonna be a dismal ritual trudging into the Garden night after night this season being forced to endure this barely-watchable, largely mediocre team foolishly constructed by this woefully inadequate brain trust.
I will gladly take any of their tickets off of them as someone who has never gotten a chance to see a game there....
