I think it will be a solid year for poitras. Or at least I hope. He’s one of the players I’m hoping will have a bigger offensive impact and hopefully pick up some of slack that this team missed last year and lost this offseason

Poitras is my guy. I have high expectations for his career. He is still a baby. If he scores 10 goals and gets 15 apples I’ll be happy.

An AHL season is a huge grind as well. 72 regular season games, lots of travel by bus. Many times 3 games in 4 nights and sometimes 3 games in 3 nights over the course of a weekend.
And as @DominicT pointed out, in the AHL you have more goons and guys willing to take cheap shots trying to make a name for themselves. You could argue he'd be less "protected" in the AHL than he would be in the NHL. Whether it's the NHL or AHL, it's professional hockey played by grown men, there is only so much they can do now.

I haven't read it yet. I have access to some articles through the New York Times. Not Fluto's stuff though. Thankfully.
Sometimes it doesn't work, like today, even for me. Obviously, it has something to do with a new blood test that has to be approved by the FDA which can help with concussions. How, I don't know.
You could probably look up those keywords in Google news or being news, and find an answer.

It's about concussion protocol and testing. Marchand's concussion he sustained in the playoffs is used as an example, and how he was not 100% forthcoming to the team physicians when they diagnosed him initially.
Doctors and team physicians note that players often don't tell the truth when they are taken out for concussion protocol testing (though they do acknowledge that they are getting better and more honest lately), and the tests they perform (ie. mental, memory questions) are not that reliable.
There's now a new blood-based test for concussions that just received FDA approval. The brain apparently releases certain proteins when a concussion is sustained. These proteins are not normally present under normal activity, and are measurable in a blood test. This test would help make a more objective/accurate diagnosis on whether a player has sustained a concussion. Within 15 minutes of taking the blood sample, a doctor would know if a player had a concussion.

I would just be happy with 35 ish pts and a healthy season for him. The games played number is what I’m most worried about instead of points. I want him practicing and learning for an entire season, doesn’t matter to me if he produces as long as he doesn’t get down on himself from not producing.

In his first full nhl season as a 20 year old? How many 20 year olds are playing in the nhl?
That's fair, but if he is playing a top 9 center role he needs to have more than 25 points, because he is not on the ice for elite defense.
If he is a 25 point player in 75 games in the role he is likely to play, then he is hurting the team

He was a pretty good defensive player. I don’t recall feeling like he was ever hurting the team.
He was fine. Not a problem, but at the same time not a guy who is going to make his living as a defensive specialist at least not at this point of his career. He has to contribute on offense to maintain a position in the top 9, and 25 points isn't enough

Not many but if you are playing as a 20 year old you better damn be good enough to put up more than 25 points over a full season.
I think of someone like Anton Lundell who as a 20 year old put up 44 points in 65 games. The last two years he's paced .45 ppg. I think Poitras should fall somewhere in the later.

Pass on Wheeler, I am all in on giving a solid look at Lysell, now is the time.
Also we all must keep in mind it's a dangerous game to have too many young unproven forwards in the top 12. If potrais. And Brazeu don't take significant leaps forward we are going to be in a little bit of hot water trying to find goals then you're already talking about lysel or another Providence guy filling the second line winger slot I just think that's too much to think we're going to hit on all of them if we don't hit on two out of the three scoring goals is going to be a major issue in my opinion fortunately I do believe the defense in goal tending will compensate in the regular season anyway for that I think he will need to make a move with the deadline to add more scoring if we are serious about making a run
As we stand now we are a one-line team with Lindy pasta zacha. Marchy and coyle could help significantly on line 2 but I don't see them being such an impact particularly without a NHL top 6 winger on their line. Again I think the goalies and defense can compensate during the regular season when we can win most nights three to two or two to one. It's just we are very thin in the forward group and that is assuming everyone stays healthy if one of those top five guys go down on the first two lines we got major problems
