All three players mentioned are young former first rounders, why not take a look at them, my preference would be Nylander who does not carry the baggage that Vrana has, whom I think if he has it together could still be a player.

1st) it's easier to replace wingers than to find a defenseman of McAvoy's ability.
2nd) it would leave a massive hole on Boston's backend.
3rd) you don't exponentially strengthen a divisional opponent's weakness while simultaneously weakening your own strength for only a marginal improvement elsewhere in the lineup.
4th) while Marner may possess talent Boston needs up front his overall value to Boston would be less than McAvoy's overall value.
5th) Boston has proven they don't need Marner to be successful in the regular season; and, Marner hasn't proven he is or would be the difference maker in the playoffs.
Seen some Islanders fan saying they think Wahlstrom is on the block. Cheap contract, player entering potential bust territory but some offensive upside. I'd take the gamble if the trade cost is reasonable. Wouldn't mind the the competition in camp for the open middle 6 wing spot.
While I would be excited to see one or both of these players break into the line up I do have a couple of conerns/questions the perhaps someone with more personal first hand observation/knowledge would be able to answer.
Both players have skill sets and talent, and keeping in mind that the AHL is maybe at a minimum a half second slower pace than the NHL giving players time to react to situations (and I'm thinking avoiding dangerous contact) ...
1) How far along are these two in their physical (muscle,/core strength development)? I am going to assume Merkulov is further along. The NHL is the best of the best, fastest, strongest, and most talented players. Are their bodies developed enough to handle the nightly punishment?
2) While these players both have offense gifts - at this point in their on ice development have they learned their defensive responsibilities, defensive zone coverage, what to do away from the puck, and expected positional play - consistently game after game? Has their on ice awareness shown they understand this aspect of the game(?) ... to the point that they would not become a liability.
I understand they are going to need ice time and that mistakes will happen and hopefully they learn from them,
But is their development at the point where the above two questions have been answered positively and they now just need to earn a spot?
who would likely make more cash than the kids, and it's a crap shot if they would out perform them all season....at some point it's time to see what the kids have.....if not....just trade em all
If they don't perform, they won't make the team. If they perform well their salary will be at the 1 mil or less level..
Right now they are not in good position if Lysell flops. What do they do? Put Brazeau there? Maybe break up their third line? Or just play short for 5 months until the trade deadline?
You have an option to set up competition at camp why wouldn't you do that

Plenty of options. Why send a message to the youth that you’re not sure if they can fill that role? For who…Jakob Vrana? Hardly seems worth it.
I would rather go in the direction JoelAstud suggested, only need is to sign and not giving up any assets.

No, I think Lysell has a better shot at second line RW than Brazeau. Or at least I think the bruins want Lysell to win that spot. Honestly I think it is likely Brazeau spends more time in that role than Lysell

The one year he played for the Mooseheads he scored 44 in 57. Then continued on in the WJC with 7 in 7 with Necas. He looked so brilliant and dynamic '17/'18. He is only 24.

On the other hand, he may be toast.

Krebs, Mercer, Sillinger, Perfetti and Nick Robertson still not signed. All coming off ELC's I believe. Mercer and Perfetti will get paid. Krebs, Robertson and Sillinger will probably have to settle for a one or two year show me. All of these guys have varying degrees of goal scoring pedigree and high skill level.
Not a chance that works in Boston but there are plenty of bottom feeders that would take advantage of such an opportunity

Joe Sacco will begin the new NHL season this October with a new, expanded title with the Bruins. After spending the last 10 seasons as an assistant coach, working alongside bench bosses Claude Julien, Bruce Cassidy, and Jim Montgomery, Sacco in June was elevated to the role of associate coach.
Long ago the pride of Medford High hockey, Sacco, 55, will have a greater opportunity to help Montgomery manage the bench, try to spot trends as the game unfolds at its standard NHL ‘25 warp speed.
“Not a lot will change with my role, really,” said Sacco during a recent phone conversation with the Globe, noting that Jay Leach, recently hired as an assistant, will assume some of the duties he oversaw with the blueliners. “But this should give me the chance for Jim and I to talk more … about things I’m seeing, and vice versa, during games. I don’t have to be as focused on matchups as much as Jim is, and Jay will be watching more over the defensive aspects of our game.”
General manager Don Sweeney came to Sacco with the idea of taking on the associate’s role soon after the playoffs ended, leaving the ex-BU forward saying he was “flattered and honored” over the promotion.
Montgomery said last month, while in Vegas for the NHL entry draft, that he was happy Sacco had been rewarded with the new gig, calling it formal recognition of Sacco’s overall input and for the good relationship the two have shared during Montgomery’s two years on the job.
“Joe’s really kind of been in that role since I started. We see the game a lot in the same way,” said Montgomery. “Great move.”
The playoffs this spring showed the Bruins in need of a behind-the-bench booster shot. In three of their 13 postseason games, two vs. Toronto and one vs. the Panthers, they were painfully slow in generating shots on net. More urgency was needed from puck drop.
By the end of Round 2, which ended with a Game 6 loss (2-1) to the Panthers, the Bruins established an ignominious playoff record, whistled seven times for too many men on the ice. Players and coaches shared in the failed math. A new title for Sacco alone won’t fix the accounting, but in tandem with Leach as presumably a fourth set of eyes behind the bench, it should help prevent some of the annoying “too many” faux pas.
Sacco will enter the season tied with Carolina’s Jeff Daniels with 10 years as an assistant with their respective clubs, the most among active NHL coaches. Sacco, who started here with Julien in 2014-15, is the lone current coach to serve 10 years consecutively with the same team as an assistant or associate. Daniels had nearly a 10-year break in service with the Hurricanes.
Bob Essensa (a.k.a. Goalie Bob) has been on the Black and Gold’s coaching staff the last 17 seasons. Per the NHL stats department, he is not considered in the assistant/associate group because he has been specifically a goaltending coach.
Across the 100-plus years of league history, according to the NHL stats department, only 11 coaches have served the same club for more than 10 consecutive seasons in the assistant/associate role. The leader of the pack: Benoit Allaire, who served the last 19 years as a Ranger assistant (focused mainly on netminding) before announcing early this offseason that he’ll move to a reduced, advisory role in 2024-25. Minnesota assistant Darby Hendrickson, tied for the No. 2 spot with 14 consecutive seasons, was dismissed this spring by the Wild.
When informed by the Globe about his standing on the NHL longevity chart, Sacco was somewhat surprised.
“That’s special to me,” he noted. “Would have never known that.”
What has kept him going, said Sacco, in large part has been liking the work itself and working for a Bruins team that has been consistently in the chase for the Cup, including the 2019 run that fell one win short in the Final vs. St. Louis. Julien, Cassidy, and Montgomery all have imparted knowledge that has helped him become better at his job, he said.

As a rational person, I automatically connect the dots that by trading Ullmark to Ottawa, Bruins brass had a deal/good indication that Swayman will be signed.
Remaining rational, I assumed its more of the finer details that need to be worked out. IE signing bonuses paid out, NMC, vezina awards/stanley cups/all star nods/etc. That must be why it's taken this long.
Becoming 25% slightly irrational, while maintaining 75% rational, I start to wonder if last year's arbitration ugliness have crept into the negotiation and Swayman's agent might be holding the Bruins hostage.
I just hope this deal gets done before late august- as I will have fully turned irrational, burnt my Swayman jersey, purchased a Bussi in hopes he's the next big thing, and mother f***ed Sweeney on here so many times that the Mods banned me until opening night.

" LAST YEARS UGLINESS " is a good point, might be an overreaction, but I, am not taking anything for granted. I might also add his agent has reputation of squeezing every drop he can out of past negotiations.
