Debrusk was under rated here. What a shame to lose him.
They could have fit DeBrusk and Lindholm in but decided to sign Zadorov. Zadorov in totality is playing fairly close to his contract and has stepped up his game with Lindholm out.

I suspect Lindholm is playing thru an injury (out last week of TC) as he is better than this.

We agree that if it was decided TODAY, in our UFA/RFA groups:

Back:

Marchy (as long as he wants to play)
Brazeau
Kastelic
Koepke
Lohrei
Beecher (assuming it's for similar money)

Gone:

Freddy
Wotherspoon (probably earned raise elsewhere)
Geekie
McMuffin
TJ

Seem about right?

guy's been banished
Honestly, McLaughlin has looked better than Jones or Tufte. Now if you want to complain about Poitras or Lysell not getting called up, I certainly understand that POV, but McLaughlin in every Bruins game he has played has never hurt the team, just doesn't possess any kind of sustained offensive ability but is solid positionally,
hustles and doesn't take dumb penalties. Unfortunately thats going to earn him a Providence return ticket.

Sacco moved McLaughlin up 2nd half of the game to the Lindholm\Marchand
line. McLaughlin drew the penalty which Carlo negated during the delayed call.

I see a lot of people denigrating him but you get what you pay for, league minimum guy who doesn't hurt you but doesn't add anything offensively.

Debrusk had been dying to move back to Western Canada since he got here.

I don't think he had any intension of signing here once he was an unrestricted free agent.

They could have fit DeBrusk, Zadorov, and Tyler Toffoli in, kept their two 60 point centers in place until another came to centerman came along. I know DeBrusk left on his own and it was time, but that does not mean you go out and sign a 30-year-old for 8mil and 7 years, and only had one solid year and one good year. Injury, sounding like an alibi to me.

Well I have seen him play better than this last spring. He missed the last week of camp with something non illness, thats a fact, not an alibi. When players are playing markedly below what they showed just 6 months ago its reasonable to say they could be playing with a nagging injury impacting them. He is absolutely better than this crap.

Is he better, do you really believe that, maybe he is better, but 8 mil better never has been. Many in this town screamed for his signing, I just never could see his worth, certainly not 8 mil worth. This is one of Sweeneys, worse moves, people ripped the Backes signing, and it was not a good signing, but Backes had a pretty good career, but unfortunately, his best years were for another team, not the Bruins, but at least he showed more up to that point, this just does impress me. I am not saying he is not hurt, healthy or not he still was a bad signing.

He makes 7.75 not 8. Quit mis stating basic facts. I could say 7.501 and be closer to being accurate than you.

I want them to swap out Geekie from the top line and put in Kopeke, who's faster, more physical, finishing better, and an actual left handed LW'er.

It seems to me like you're saying the Bruins had 26 guys last year and this year they only have 21 so look at all the points we lost by carrying 5 less players. You're counting Forbort who played less than half the season as a player we lost and you're saying we can't count Lohrei even though this is his first full year. You're counting anyone who was here, so Peeke who only played 15 games last year, and Brazeau who only played 19 games, don't count as new players because they were here for a fraction of games. That doesn't seem like a fair comparison.

If you look at the roster we had last year and the roster we just played tonight, the reaplacements line up like this...

OUT / IN
DeBrusk / Lindholm
Heinen / Brazeau
JVR / Kastelic
Maroon / Koepke
Boqvist / McLauglin
Grzelcyk/ Zadorov
Forbort / Peeke
Shattenkirk/Lohrei

If the point is that we are getting less secondary scoring from our depth players I would agree. It's not the main problem, (the main problem is that we are not getting enough primary scoring from our main guys), but it definitely doesn't help.

That is my main point, and I was okay with the moves (except I thought they should have kept Heinen) but they were done on the premise that they would be replaced internally. I guess Brazeau is a good equivalent with Heinen, but Jake's scoring has not been replaced (or JVRs for that matter). Peeke/Zado for Grizz/Forbort is more than fair and I left Peeke off forgetting he was a late arrival last season (feels like he has been here longer). I left off the bottom 6 guys like Boquist and Maroon because one is much like the other in terms of production which is where the team needs help.

Again though, not the main problem, and I hope it will ultimately work out differently. I also don't think Sweeney screwed up with the moves. It just hasn't panned out how he (we) thought it would. It can still change, and the main guys need to start scoring, we agree.

Who would have thought Matt Tkachuk was dogging it out there all the time

Yeah, pretty close. I think the jury is still out on McLaughlin. I've liked his play and the 4th line is doing well with him on it. I don't imagine he'd be expensive.

Geekie also could rebound.

Yes please. He has a good skill set and when he is on his best game, he's a very good player. I don't know what's wrong with him this year. Is it the pressure? Last season he was a pleasant surprise and expectations were low. He bangs in 17 and looks like he is emerging as a top 6 talent, gets the role and shrinks.

I would like to see Lysell be the next call up and play RW with Marchand and Lindholm. Maybe him and Lindholm can find some chemistry.

I would like to see line 3 stay the same and Brazeau go to line 4 but get time on PP1.

I would like to see a package of Geekie, Merkulov and a pick for someone with more offensive potential to play on line 1 LW.

He just shoots it.Never looks at the net, just shoots.Zero buisness being near the top 6 on any contending team.Least in my opinion.I mean the net has corners and somebody should tell him.

Geekie has a good pedigree too. 90 point scorer in junior. Had a 27 point (in 14 games) playoff run in junior. 49 goals goals in 147 AHL games. An AHL championship where he was a point per game player as a 20 year old. 17 goals last year and 4 more in the playoffs.

Given the way he's performed in the playoffs, I don't think it's a case of him being intimidated by the pressure. Maybe he's just a slow starter. He's shooting at a career low 5.1%. His career average is 10.8% so you'd like to think his luck will change.

He could be streaky too. DeBrusk only had 3 goals in his first 18 games and now he's on a heater.

Or....an alternate theory might be that Geekie had an outlier career year last year, and has simply gone back to playing his normal grinding game.

View attachment 939947

I hope not. His trajectory looks good, though, until we get to this season. It looks like a guy finding his game step by step. Feels like we should/could have seen ~50 points from him this season. Maybe he peaked last year? Or maybe as you said, it was an outlier and the ~25 point guy is what he is? Let's hope he gets going.

Confirms what the eye test said, Maroon is the slowest player in the league.

No shortage of current and former Bruins talent. Maroon, Acciari, Foligno, Geekie, Bertuzzi, Heinen.

Definitely could be a possibility, but he's still on pace for less than his career average numbers this year.
He should try looking at the net before he shoots it next time :sarcasm:.Serious note ,I don't mind him in bottom 6 he works hard. But the moment he gets put in top 6 ,it's Houston,we have a problem.
