Nailers win again today 3-1. This is my 6th or 7th time seeing Murashov and if he sees it hes gonna stop it. 32 of 33 today, only goal was a ppg. Both D moved out to block the shot and missed, 2 Iowa guys were standing in front, he never saw it.

Jack Beck with 1g1a, and Calvert had the gwg on the power play.

Yager big ol' goose eggs even against a couple easy opponents in Latvia and Germany.
He looks like a guy with limited offensive upside. He's looked good defensively, but doesn't seem to possess any elite offensive tool.

I know the WJC isn't the be-all, but it's usually a good indicator of a player's ability to create and produce offense at the next level because it's against the best of the best at your age group. And Yager doesn't seem like he's able to create much (nice pass on the PP goal aside) consistently.

I didn't think Yager looked outright awful, but as the oldest guy on the team and captain you'd hope to see a lot more from him in a tourney like this and against the teams Canada's played so far. I was surprised at how he never looked like he was a threat to score because I kinda figured his shot was his bread and butter. I wouldn't say he was bad, but much more invisible than expected for sure. But all of Team Canada seems f***ed up so I dunno.

I agree, Yager has not looked like he can create much of anything, but Howe hasn't impressed me either. For a supposed shit disturber, he's been pretty milquetoast.

On the brightside, being a total non factor has historically been a plus for bottom 6 icetime under Sullivan.

Howe isn’t a first round pick. Any type of NHL career he can carve out is fine.

Howe shouldn’t be on the WJC team. Bizarre pick tbh.

Pretty bizarre that he looks worse than last year. He was one of the best players on team Canada in 2024 as an 18 year old.
Have to think some of it is coaching since Canada in general looks bad, but you would think a D+2 player and captain wouldn’t be a total non factor 5v5 against the likes of Latvia and Germany. I would be sort of freaking out if he was still on the Pens.

what is his coach asking him to do? is he doing it? it's not up to us to determine that nor is it up to him. he needs to do the job his coach gives him. next we will be complaining about goalies not scoring too.

I’m guessing his coach isn’t asking him to do literally nothing offensively at ES but it is Dave Cameron

Cameron is a shit coach, this is how Sullivan should be exposed in the 4 Nations.

Yager is a non factor, Howe is a non factor, so many players being misused... Cameron just came out and said he can't do or say anything about taking stupid penalties, Can't bench someone in a short tournament for hurting the team, that it's up to the players to not take penalties and they've decided they will.... moron of the highest order.

he's being used as a shutdown center. seems to be doing just that, is that being a non factor?

We might have with Brunicke. That’s about as good as you’re going to get for a 2nd. I think the odds of a 2nd round pick playing in 200 games in the NHL is 25%. So one in four.
I do like what I see with him. He might be in a situation where, regardless of overall ability, he gets games with the Penguins simply due to lack of depth. DD is spot on saying we need some mid rounders to hit. I feel like every good team has hit on mid-rounders. Not many rosters based solely around 1st rounders. Good news is that we are collecting the good depth/role players so if we get that franchise talent, we can surround them. You want to be Penguins 2006/2007 not Chicago 2024.

Which is fine but I don’t think you can expect that every 2nd rounder will turn into anything. And I’m not saying Howe won’t turn out, I’m just saying we should expect that most 2nd rounders probably won’t turn into meaningful NHL players.

I think it depends on what the definition of "turns out" is. 1st line Kunitz? Lofty. 2nd line 3rd wheel? Maybe as an absolute ceiling. 3rd line guy, reasonable. 4th line energy/checking line guy, sure.

I think the 200 games marker is a pretty good benchmark. Which, once again a is a 25% chance for a 2nd rounder.

That 200 games doesn’t count what type of player, just that they lasted long enough to play almost two and half seasons. If you play that many games at the NHL level you probably found a way to be a useful player in some capacity.
