Not to be that guy, but Yager averaging almost 2 ppg after 7 games with a much depleted Moose Jaw roster compared to his previous seasons.

When you compare Yager’s upcoming season to Rutger’s last season I think the idea that we got the “clearly” better prospect is going to be much more debatable.
But we don’t have anything to compare to? I’m sure McGroaty would be tearing it up with Michigan but instead he’s buried in the AHL.

Rutger is a year in ahead in development so the logical thing to do is compare their d+2 seasons. So many people were just comparing last year’s stats not taking into account Rutger had an extra year of development time.

The cool thing is that Yager would've been ratf***ed around just as much as McG because Sullivan sucks.

God I hope this team bombs out so hard this year that ownership and the FO have no choice but to fire Sullivan.

Brunicke with another 2 points last night. 7 points in 7 games now.
This is a positive sign for me. I'm always leery of defensemen, even those who project to be more defensive at the NHL level, who don't put up big totals in their post draft junior seasons. So Brunicke (so far) putting up points is a good sign.

Defenseman Emil Pieniniemi (OHL, Kingston Frontenacs): 10 games, 2 goals, 9 assists
Forward Cooper Foster (OHL, Ottawa 67's): 9 games, 8 goals, 2 assists
Defenseman Finn Harding (OHL, Brampton Steelheads): 9 games, 9 assists
Defenseman Harrison Brunicke (WHL, Kamloops Blazers): 7 games, 2 goals, 5 assists

Yeah, it's nice to have some guys around ppg at least in juniors!
Small sample size tho, so I wonder who will keep it up?

It would be huge if Pieniniemi pans out. PPG at 19yo in the OHL as a dman...that could get interesting. Especially if you add him in with Pickering and Brunicke. Been a part of big Finnish juniors teams as well and did well.

I'm a bit surprised at tue numbers for him so far. He always struck me a a Pettersson/Dumo kind of guy. Not totally inept on offense and good at moving the puck, but not at all a huge point getter.

But I guess in juniors you put up numbers as long as you are a decent prospect

I did have him pegged as more of a Petts/Dumo guy as well but to be fair, Dumo potted 30+pts in 50ish games in the NCAA a couple of times. I don't have the breakdown in front of me but I imagine he's getting top minutes and some PP time which certainly helps.

Maatta in the OHL potted 30ish in 50ish for two years with the London Knights. I would be very satisfied if Pieniniemi turned in a season like that.

I forgot about Lucius but he hasn't played in any games with ASU. Is he injured?

-edit-

He is injured but no ETA.

That's the thing with junior numbers. 90% of the time, defensemen putting up points isn't about indicating they have future PP QB potential, it's an indication that they're good at moving the puck and making outlet passes.

It's why I'm concerned with defensemen not putting up points in junior, even if they're not expected to be offensive guys at the NHL level. Because it typically indicates they're not even very good at the simple stuff like outlet passes or transitioning the puck crisply.

Pietila has 4 points in 4 games. His team has 6 total goals
Been far and away our best player through our first two weekends. Really starting to figure out how to take over games at the collegiate level. Everything seems to flow through him when he’s on the ice and he’s becoming much more assertive offensively. Playing ~28 minutes a night right now

Great to hear! I haven’t watched, so updates are always welcome

Can someone who watches the Baby Pens give me the 4-1-1 on the goaltending situation? I see that Murashov has not played since his brilliant debut, so I assume they sent him to the ECHL due to the conditioning stints for both Ned and Jarry?

As long as they bring him back up when Jarry's conditioning stint ends, I have no issue with this. But we definitely should not keep Murashov in the ECHL if he can handle the AHL, just like we should not send Blomqvist back to the AHL if he is our best goaltender.

I understand we need to build Jarry's value up, but not at the expense of the development of the two prospects.

I'm not sure but they did sign yet ANOTHER rando goaltender yesterday.

Can we start getting some dumpsters in here? The trash is stacking up pretty high.

He doesn't really count anymore, but Hallander is having a real good start in the SHL. 16 points in 13 games. Second in league scoring.

f*** you Sullivan.
Hallander's biggest mistake is he didn't forge an American passport and say he played NCAA hockey. That pretty much guarantees you a spot on Crosby's line.
