I've avoided saying this because I know it's divisive, it would get people stirred up, and I don't care to defend my opinion; but Panarin doesn't strike me as a guy who is as dedicated to the team as most players, and if he could get an extra few days or a week out of an LOA, I think he would take it no questions asked. Hence why I believe that bit of hearsay that we got about him choosing vodka over training during the play-ins, when players' paycheques were so up in the air.

Thankfully, he's an uber-talented monster that can carry the entire lineup when he's dressed, but I just think he has a longer list of things that matter more to him, than most players do. Which is fine, and if anything, it's probably even less reason to be worried about anything extra going on behind the scenes.

Honestly? The public is stronger than ever when it comes to public controversy and they can literally ruin your life. So he may have taken a loa in hopes of getting ahead of things and gauging the public reaction. So it’s most likely getting things taken care of legally and mentally. And now since it seems like most are on his side he’s probably just tighten any loose ends and getting things clear.

I don’t know if this is true, but (kind of off-topic) the more I watch and follow hockey, the more I appreciate and value effort and compete level in players. You can be the most skilled player in the world, but without any effort, you’re just another replacement level player.

Our confidence should be at a peak for the season. But at the same time, we definitely got away with some sketchy play against Buffalo and New Jersey.

I have no idea what to expect from this team on a game-to-game basis.
