Valiquette was a pretty bad goalie. He's a great analyst though.
Auld was pretty garbage... Pavelec... Pretty much all of the backups between Weekes and Biron left a lot to be desired.
Geo is better than all of those guys.
Not really. Some of those guys were already at the end of their careers, and slightly improved (albeit they still sucked) under Allaire, besides Weekes. Georgiev got worse. And he’s so young. And if this continues, he’ll be worse than some of those guys.

Auld barely played. And I liked Valiquette and still do but yea. He (like some others) was never going to be very good regardless.

The Rangers struck gold with Talbot and Raanta as backups.
For all of the draft capital devoted to goaltenders (Montoya, Lindbom, Halverson, Lafleur being the most significant draft picks devoted to tenders as 1st and 2nd rounders) it's pretty telling that undrafted Talbot and trade throw away Raanta were maybe not so much a result of Allaire and maybe a result of their own work ethic.

I really hope Martin works with Miller on his defense off the rush. He gets walked way too often and I wonder if his amazing reach makes him lazy. He makes a lot of great plays but gives up too many high danger plays.
Still a rookie, making rookie mistakes. Feels like I say this every game, but this squad as put together has no desire/ hunger. Today they actually come out and get the first goal early but then as soon as things go a little sideways they just roll over. Wtf is that? They need to be fired up, or someone has to fire them up. Very young team with no clear cut leaders and questionable coaching is a recipe for disaster IMO

Oh, then I must have been reading the 5% wanting to get rid of him badly.
Thats because the 5% really stand out. Makes you read in astonishment. People absolutely FORGETTING how he just had 2 outstanding seasons, and not giving him the benny of a doubt. Whatever the case (mental, physical or Covid repercussions) I love Mika and want more than just about anything for him to get back to somewhere close to his amazing self. He's too good for this to continue. You just dont lose all your talent in the blink of an eye. Not at his age anyway.

They didn't beat us because we were lazy or because we blew it. I don't know how some of you watch the games. If anything, the Pens were impersonating our slow starts as we got the jump on them quickly for the first goal and first half of the opening period. We were also playing back to back games.

Agree with you bud. That game albeit the score looking worse than it was, was NOT one from not enough effort.
Man, Georgie kind of wet the bed and if it wasnt for Kinkaid, we would have been OUT of the game earlier than it turned out.
Keep thinking about that early shitty PP, and how Zbad almost got his 2nd.....what if? Yeah, and what if Georgiev makes 5 or 6 saves out of a measly 6 shots. Different game, huh?

He said that Georgiev needs to be better on breakaways. He talked about Hank always taking breakaways in practice and thats why he was so good on them.
I don’t think it’s really fair to be comparing Georgiev to Hank, even passively like that. Georgiev could practice 10 hours a day for rest of his life he’s never going to be as good as Lundqvist.

this was one of those men vs boys game imo.

The NBCSN team calling it like it was a f*ckin' pens game didn't help either. I think those two changed their pants about three times last night.

Thought two games back in, Kakko looked great. Chytil too.

So were the Pens. They looked listless and like they didn't care about after the three quick goals on the shooter tutor. It's not indicative of how they normally play, They do give a good effort. Last night was horse shit though.

I’ve said this multiple times. Georgiev only has it in him to give you one offs. You cannot play him 2 3 in a row. He is abysmal. He can focus one night and that’s it. Anytime you stretch him out it ends up as a joke. Once every 5 to 7 games is all he can give you

there’s no way I play him Tuesday. None. This game should have been a win frankly. We kill that pk as we did and we are right back on top of them. He threw it away
Didn’t he sub for lumdqvist for a few weeks/months and do amazingly well? Or am I thinking of Talbot?

Regardless, I’ll give you this: Georgiev’s performance on the ice was much better last year than this year. It’s been an adventure with him in net. And I mean that in a rough way.

His backup last night looked much sharper.

I’m sure he will improve in this area. These are rookie mistakes.

I just hope that Shesterkin is not rushed back.

It’s probably a mix of both good coaching and hard work.

I agree. Rangers had some lazy games this year, but I don’t consider this one of them. They just got outplayed by a better team to be honest.

Guys, this is who they are without Panarin and while playing a more talented and veteran team.

I hate to break it to you but they’re just not talented enough yet to beat Islanders, Penguins, Bruins, and Caps unless they get perfect goaltending. Or without Panarin doing Panarin things.

Or without Zib in absolute top dominant form.

I do think they played to their level last night. Goaltending just didn’t keep them in the game in the first period. And they got shut down by great team defense.

I didn’t see laziness though. Just some mistakes in allowing too many odd man rushes early in the game.
