Erik Karlsson wasn't Erik Karlsson at the draft, either. You'll see that just about every Euro defense prospect since gets the "omg look how good he is, he scored more than Karlsson at the same age" because he had a relatively unremarkable 17-18-19 yo season and was 150 pounds soaking wet during the height of the GRITZ movement.

Bingo.

Karlsson's 'a garbage pick,'

That just goes to show you have to 1) trust people who do this for a living and not opinions of people who only watch high lite videos or read others thoughts on how good a 17/18 year old will be 2) wait a few years to determine how”good” a pick is/was........at the bottom of the article he comments on bogosian possibly as 1OA , you got to wonder how 12 & 14 turnout if we had taken him instead of doughty

Bjornfort (along with Kaliyev) was one of Pronman's 13 "standout prospects" at the World Junior Summer Showcase (Pronman: Standout prospects at the World Junior camps). He talked about Edmonton's Broberg and the King's Bjornfot as a defensive pair for Sweden.

The Broberg-Bjornfot pair came together toward the second half of the tournament and was excellent. Broberg was arguably the best defenseman at the camp, making a ton of plays with his skating and skill particularly off the rush. His first game he had a rough couple of turnovers in bad spots, but the rest of the way his play was very strong. Bjornfot was his typical not flashy self, but with his great skating and brain he made stops and enough offensive plays to help drive play. This could be a possible pairing at the tournament in December.

This is great news about Bjornfot. What are the odds of him making the Kings opening night 2019 roster?

I think its unlikely. He'll be at training camp, but I think the plan has always been for him to at least play 1 season in Sweden, monitor his progress and then see how he does at next years camp. But I will say this, our development guys speak very highly of him, not only because of his play on the ice, but also his leadership abilities.

Thanks kings boy. A training camp battle; something to look forward to. I have a vision of him playing along side Drew Doughty.

Doughty - Bjornfot
Walker - Martinez
Roy - Forbort (until another rookie is ready, then trade bait)

Agreed. Hope Doughty has a new partner this year. I would think Michael Anderson makes roster by 20-21 and gets in games this year. Cale Clague too.

This was someone's take on the main boards earlier today:

THE HYPE IS REAL

But wait!!! Bjornfot is NOT FLASHY!!! What business does he have scoring a goal and an assist in SHL? And being #1 pairing with Broberg in the recent tournament? Bjornfot is not flashy
and not staying within himself!!!

300 days from now: REDO Round 1 of 2019 draft and Bjornfot is 2nd or 3rd D selected after Byram. Ahead of several of: Broberg, Seider, Soderstron, York, Harley, Thomson, Heinola. Let it be known.

Bjornfot sure putting the pressure on management. I didn't think there was any chance an 18 year old could come in on D and hold his own. Man he has proven me wrong so far. Looks like he and Doughty have played together for a while. Doughty was really pumping up his tires after the game, lobbying for Bjornfot to be his partner.

Glad to see youve come around regarding my preduction of an opening night pairing of dd tb

As well as he's played and as good as he's looked, I wonder if playing in the NHL as an 18 year old is the best option to fulfill his full potential. He definitely looks like he can play top 4 minutes right now, but is that going to be best for his development? Can he develop the offensive part of his game properly? Definitely questions that BLuc and co need to answer before deciding on his future.

I guess that's a part of what TMac might means when he talks about guys being ready to make the team and also the team being ready for the young player.

The thing I'm noticing in Bjornfot's game that isn't typical with most teenagers is that he's not timid. He will try moves in tight, he'll pinch, he'll take the puck deep into the offensive zone and join the attack. There isn't a timidness in his game, he's the opposite of an 18-year-old Aki Berg who looked like a deer caught in the headlights when he'd face incoming fore checkers.

The confidence Bjornfot displays when the puck is on his stick or when he's in his own end of the ice is rare, and usually reserved for high first round picks. He's exceptional.

And those McDonagh comparisons on draft day seem apt.

Envisioning Bjornfot becoming that type of player alongside Drew Doughty would be good for the future of this club. The Kings' brass talked about drafting "culture changers," and Bjornfot seems to fit that description.

Most rookies are never going to be 100% ready as a player. There is always going to be part of their game you’d like to see a bit better. The most important part to be ready is hockey IQ and with Björnfot we’d mostly agree that part is good to go. For me he dresses opening night, that been the case for a while now.
