Being good is always a burden. Its a mixed blessing. You win but have to pay up or dump. Just ask the Blackhawks who were forced to dump many good to very good players after winning their Cups. I repeat....After winning their Cups. That is our goal. You keep your core and scramble to replace good players you can no longer afford.so if it is going to take a 6X6 would you pay him that? considering the hefty contracts the Islanders are going to be faced with in the future it could be a burden especially if this season is a fluke, and if he is going to keep it up I can see Baileys agent looking for that
Barzal made that Ladd goal happen. His puck possession and cut to the middle created time and space for his line mates to get in position. That’s the beauty he brings in his game.
Also hattip to Eberle on the goal, beautiful hands in tight. Very little time and space.
Ladds been good over the past few weeks. Looking like a 5 mil. player.
And yeah, those calling out Greiss need to consider the stops he made in the 3rd period to keep this team in it.
D needs a lot of work.
Our defense isnt great in our own zone, but I can't help but feel that a lot of our issues are related to style of play.
I dont think a lot of teams can hang with us offensively and i want us to keep playing this wide open style. Your style of play needs to match your personnel, and we have plenty of team speed, guys with handles and guys who can rip them from the point. Keep playing the style that suits the team.
We have a really good squad, one that can win the Metro. But we're gonna struggle with teams that can clog up center ice, and i do think we need either Mayfield or Pulock to becone more reliable on defense for us to make a deep playoff run. That, or someone to come in and be a lockdown top 4 guy.
I really, really like this squad. We aren't short on talent. Just need one more piece if we're gonna build our team in this style in the future.
I agree. So far I think we can out gun every team in this league. An upgrade on D/G will go a long way.
It’s more than just Barzal though. Having Eberle and Ho-sang (gasp) has made a huge difference compared to last year. And Ladd has been playing well too.I think it's great how one skinny kid with blazing speed and creativity from the WHL can have us in the conversation of "outgunning" every team in this league. Let's see how the league and the Isles adapt in the dog days of the NHL season. Such a fine line between winning and losing in the league. Just ask the Oilers.
To put it simply, we're outscoring our mistakes. The Islanders have the 3rd best offense in the league at 82GF. We also have allowed 73 goals which is tied with Toronto for the worst of any team currently in a playoff spot. Our defense isnt great in our own zone, but I can't help but feel that a lot of our issues are related to style of play.

It's 2 skinny kids with speed. Ho-Sang skates as smoothly as anyone on this team. Nick Leddy as well.I think it's great how one skinny kid with blazing speed and creativity from the WHL can have us in the conversation of "outgunning" every team in this league.
